Probably easier to loosen the compressor bolts, remove back and bottom one so it can pivot on the top one. Then after positioning belt, jack up the back of the compressor to tension belt and align holes to put compressor bolts back in.

All the bit of removing engine mount to get the aux belt off is completely unnecessary - just slacken off the tension on the belt and remove. Only need to take engine mount off if changing the cam belt.

Started about 13:00, finished by 21:30....😵So, PS pump out, but not enough room to get to long 18 mm bolt. Still, it helped me access belts and other bits, though didn't need to take tensioner off to get that 18 mm bolt & nut. Had to drop AC pump but was really crap to get back on. Perhaps taking the front end off is a little easier 🤷‍♂ Stretch belt was an absolute f***er too, new one did not want to go on!! Anyway, done now....

Hi, thanks for sharing this. What are your thoughts on the value of being 'forced' every 12mth/10,000km, to take the underpanel off which allows you to have a general look around for other potential issues?
@gbymb
@gbymb 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, a good question, looking around the engine every now and then is something which doesnt happen often enough. Yes, having your ears and eyes open, when the engines running, is what every car owner needs to do. I suggest that when you have time, do take the under panel off and check for any anomalies during an oil change. But I can say that the diesel is a somewhat more 'sturdy' engine, and I would rely on it more than a petrol. Having said all this, I'm happy to keep using the portal for most of the services.

When I changed the long auxilliary belt and tensioner on mine I didn't need to remove the engine mount, mount cover or or jack the engine at all to get to the tensioner. I just stuck a long spanner up from underneath in order to turn the tensioner so my friend could take the belt off from the top. Was the reason for removing engine mount and jacking the engine just for that or was it to make space for getting the alternator out as well? I also read in the manual you can release bolts on the compressor in order to release enough tension on the stretch belt to get that one off, I wonder if that is easier than releasing bolts on the alternator and winding it off like you did?

@@gbymb yes. Thought I'd do the TB and water pump at the same time. Just trying to make sure that the alternator is the only issue. Got the car back after a routine service and it started/drove fine but wouldn't start an hour later. Battery was dead as a dead dingos donger. Jumped ok but died as soon as jumper taken off. So I think the other electrics are ok but the alt and pretty new battery were dead. So I think the alt shorted the battery. Bit of an electrical burning smell and the engine bay seemed too hot after an hour. Any other thoughts? I'll give you a shout if/when I get into trouble. Thanks

You you need to chk the alternator. With the engine off, get a lead to the heavy + terminal of the alternator, get a meter accross it, (and earth), Start the engine ( if the battery is charged), idle is fine, you should get 13.8v-ish. If no volts, it's bad. turn off, disconnect the battery, incase of short. The wiring on the back of the alterntor get hot and may have a short, check it. FYI, a sparky can check the alternator when it's out. You then can continue to the TB. etc. BTW the alternator is crazy expensive new. Another check is put an amp meter in line with the +ve teminal of the battery, when it's off. good luck

Amazing work and video, many thanks for posting this, where did you get the Alternator from?? My 159 JTDm 2.4 has developed some serious electrical issues, after driving for a little while the battery light comes on the dash and if I keep driving it will reach to a point where at low RPMs the car stalls and doesn't start again as if the battery is flat, checked the battery while the engine was running Alternator Doesn't seem to charge the battery, at first I thought it was the battery that was faulty but after testing that it became obvious that the fault is elsewhere. Put the battery on charge at home and reinstalled it, car started but then the same exact problem occurred! The car is pretty standard apart from from an AUX adaptor installed to the hedunit. What was the problem with your car??

My car would run if the battery had charge, so, aircond off. lights/radio off. 2.4 ti. charge light was on, but I could drive it, as long as I had charge. see if you can get to the back of the alternator, to read volts off the heavy cable.

Hello mate, I have a question regarding the Alfa 159 audio socket that goes into the stock radio. I'm purchasing a joying headunit that only has RCA inputs. Do you know what adapter would be appropriate to convert the existing connection to RCA and maintain steering controls? Cheers
@gbymb
@gbymb 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, the stock radio has the pin outs on a sticker on the top, I took a photo , hoping to send it to you but ther's no facility to add photos... also , the connector is for feeds to the speakers, at high level, unless you ahve the bose sysytem with the amp in line,... the output of the joying headunit will be too low. ( line level, not spaeker level) You could get creative and remove the appropiate speakers from the connector and extent it to an amp, fed by the joying outs. Are you saying that the joying unit is compatable with the alfa can bus?
@MilleniumMixTapes
@MilleniumMixTapes 2 жыл бұрын
@@gbymb Ahh thanks I think I had a brain freeze. The ISO cables in the Alfa are the speakers & canbus and there are actually connections for these on the back of the joying unit, just coming out of their own seperate cables not a block connection like on the back of the stock unit. Thanks for the reply anyhow.

Hi, This andriod unit has the normal problems which all android gear has (and phones etc)....it needs to be power cycled every week or so to make the system work well. Isudar is good because they have people who will talk to you , via email , [email protected] , to help with any issues. I'm using a custom launcher, FCC which makes it look good, but adds another level of complexity. I suggest buying DSP, for better sound, and more ram. The steering controls work 90% of the time, which isn't the unit but the car not wanting to talk to the unit. Restarting the car fixes this...until the next time. Volume up/down works , and up/down arrows will give next/back of channel/preset/item etc. SCR will change program i.e, CD/radio/ blutooth etc. Remember to unpair all devices from the blue&me, so the unit can pick them up.

Hi, the unit's fine, as with most android stuff I do need to restart the unit every few times. I put a reboot button on the home screen to make this easy. As for the antenna, the screen mount one is really directional and is only any good when you're in the CBD or close to the TX. I bought this off ebay 'Universal Car Aerial Antenna Mast + DAB Radio Amplifier SMA Male Connector Q5S0 ' item#153559042159. this works very well, it's just a bit of work to get the old one out, but with the effort. I use DAB-Z for the dab+ radio. and the launcher is 'FCC car lancher', it's a much nicer screen. If you've got questions, feel free to write. Also, be aware there is no way to have the unit on without the ignition being on...
