First time ever commenting on a KZfaq video and really my first time when I went deep down into thinking about Transformers and Optimus in particular. First things first - great idea and very good interpretation along with story telling and facts. Not perfect though. There are few things that don't line up here that would actually make this whole theory a little more inaccurate. 1. I really don't remember when Optimus mentioned that Cybertron was an empire under his rule. Have to double check that but I think that he wasn't a ruler of any kind. 2. Optimus is a bit more straightforward and even naive rather than what we are told here, and here is why: a) When mission in Chernobyl happens and Optimus finds the core of Sentinel's starship he gets cranky and angry with humans for hiding the information about the true purpose of American space program. But even though he identifies it immediately, I can't say that this indicates to him knowing that Sentinel is there. When they get Sentinel on Earth, these two get some "tet a tet" screen time and we can clearly see how Optimus genuinely considers Sentinel his teacher, leader and mentor. He is even willing to give him the Matrix of Leadership (which had a potential to become a huge game changer) just like that, without any hesitation. Because he trusted Sentinel and acknowledged his leadership over himself. We can also see later how, again, genuinely upset Optimus gets when he finds out about the treachery of Sentinel. And these things tell a lot, at the very least, Optimus was definitely not aware of Sentinel being out there. b) Killing Megatron in the Dark Side of the Moon. While you can say that it was pretty nasty and arguably dishonorable, I can definitely understand why would he do this. I would do the same myself. Let's start with the question, why did Megatron saved Optimus in the first place? In the video we are being pointed to the fact that Megatron stopped fighting when he got sure that Cybertron is being saved. But did he really? When Carly has a private conversation with Megatron, we find out that he was planning to rule over the new, rebuilt Cybertron. That's when he gets reminded about Sentinel and his plan to dump Megatron as soon as Cybertron arrives to Earth. That's when Megatron goes "wait, I don't like that". Then, right at the moment when Sentinel is about to establish a full success of their plan by killing Optimus, Megatron intervenes, stops and almost kills Sentinel. Why would he do that? Didn't we talk about his sole intent to be the saving of his nation? Then why did he give an opportunity for Optimus to interfere with that? Because his TRUE motive was to get the reign. To become the one and only, the dictator of everything. And Optimus was telling everyone about this all along. He knew what kind of character is Megatron. And that's why he decided not to gamble, and finish this absurdity once and for all. Same for Sentinel. Traitor once - traitor twice. Give him a chance and he would have killed everyone for his own benefit. These reasons and also some others which would take too much text to describe lead me to conclusion mentioned in point #2. I think Optimus had a lot of reasoning behind what he did. 3. Coming out of the previous points, cruelty of autobots in general gets some justification as well. Why would you be quick and merciful towards the creatures whose only goal is "to punish and enslave"? Not just humans, but autobots as well. Your planet gets destroyed, your friends and comrades get murdered, you are forced to flee and wander in space for an indefinite term. What mercy are we talking about? This is revenge. Cold, sadistic and rightful revenge for hundreds and hundreds dead allies and countless years of stranding among the stars. I think that would be it for this comment, but there is still much more to this debate. Ultimately it all comes down to how you interpret the timeline of all 5 Bay movies. If you treat this timeline as a possible hidden plot, then everything written above is subject to argue. However, we can also treat this disrupted timeline as a simple, unintended contradiction. At some point the influence from Hasbro and some other figures forced Bay to create the story that simply conflicts itself, and it's your choice to fix it, if you chose to love Transformers. Anyway, that was an amazing video, very interesting theory and great topic to debate on. Would like to hear anyone's thoughts on this!

I actually love this video. I dont like episode 9 but I loved episode 8 and I thought a lot of it was because episode 9 cynically bertrayed a lot of ideas from 8. But looking at its production history made me realize that there are some themes that were brought into episode 9 that was directly picked up from 8. the major one was Rey's Identity. I thought making Rey a Palpatine basically nullified the idea in 8 of being a nobody doesn't define you but if 9 had a little more time to work out the script the revelation that Rey is a Palpatine could give Rey more personal challenge. I imagine after 8 concludes, Rey is at peace with this fact. She's free to create her own story. But this revelation should bring her back into uncertainty and any good story should do that let alone a continution. I suppose if this revelation was done early in the film it should set up the stakes for her character more clearly with the climax during her confrontation with Palpatine. I also love the attempt to tell the story that the First Order's oversight is exactly their downfall. I think Trevorrow's script done this quite well they should've had a battle where all the junk, the former troopers using FO tech or old empire tech to fight against the final order. On paper episode 9 could've worked but things just doesn't happen I guess and it's a bit disappointing. At least this video made me realize that SW sequel didn't end at 8, 9 had the juice but it just fumbled.

I like how Abrams and Terrio made the worst possible decisions to make episode 9 lol as much of a hack as Trevorrow is, his version of episode 9 was actually pretty good and would've been the best of the sequels. That's not saying much because the sequels are trash but it's something

its crazy when you realize in original transformers tvshow and comic series all of megatrons (megatronus is actually a historical revolutionary hero and his name was passed down as a title of honor to the current megatron) people were actually slaves to the faction that optimus prime (actual name is orion pax) represented

This is actually interesting and kinda reflects American politics at the time, particularly in the promotion of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. We were told that terrorists were coming to destroy our way of life and that the US military is the only defense against such openly evil forces. Years later, we come to find that most of the reasons for these wars were fabrications used to justify the US occupying these territories for their own benefit. It's also obvious that these films contained a lot of pro-military propaganda, hence the frequent showing of soldiers and military equipment in a stylized "cool" fashion. In a way, these movies reflect an idea that our country was expected to believe about war and why we do it. What this video does is deconstruct that narrative and, in doing so, unintentionally deconstructs traditional Americana and reinterprets this franchise's real message about war.

I don’t know why the sequel trilogy had to be skywalker related. The world of Star Wars is built. Just put a fucking story in it. It doesn’t have to be about all the originals main characters family. Jedi v Sith. Space battles. Cool droids and ships. It’s so easy. Nothing about this trilogy was original or…fun. It was mind baffling dumb. At parts of the movie felt like they were trying to make a bad movie on purpose.

It's odd that they apparently asked themselves if they would fit into the old Star Wars.... And then made things that so often feel out of place, with so many flat faces, and wide eyes.

I think that final battle with a ludicrous number of ships is emblematic of Star Wars after the OT, that includes the very Special Editions. The limitations Lucas had while creating the originals actually worked in his favor. There's only so much you can pull off with models and puppets. With CGI you can basically do whatever you like and make things as large as you like. Lucas had a bunch of shots that he couldn't get with the old technology but with computers he could now do them, and they're universally terrible. The original cantina scene, better than the remake. The original Jabba's palace music scene, way way better than the remake. The models of the starships always look better than the CGI replacements, but Lucas got to "have his scene" with the CGI. More movement! More creatures ! More camera angles! This culminated in the travesty that was the ending of RoS. JJ got to have thousands of ships on screen. Way more than could have been accomplished with models, and it's incredibly stupid. It makes no sense from an in universe perspective. Half of them should have been blown up five seconds after jumping in because they'd be easy targets all bunched up together. But JJ got what he thought was a cool shot. Ever since the OT it's just more, bigger and louder. It's never better. Those constraints forced (yup that's an intentional pun for sure) them to be creative and to make what they could pull off as good as they could make it. They're just throwing as much crap at the audience as they can thinking they'll be as amazed with it as they are in love with their "shots". It's not always the case but sometimes limits can be a good thing.

What a useless video. You're conclusion is "sometimes things just don't work out"????? Seriously? I want to know WHY it was rushed. Why didn't they delay it another year? In fact, why were all these movies rushed? The other trilogies had three years between movies. They were wanting TWO (and originally only one and a half between 8 and 9). That's insane and I cannot figure it out. The only theory I have is that it was Bob Iger's ego. The ONLY time limiting factor I can see is that he was planning to retire in 2020. So my guess is he personally wanted to be responsible for producing the final star wars trilogy. He wanted that to be a part of his legacy before he left. Why else?? It's not like money was an issue.

idk seems like good old fashioned incompetence when the director of the movie has had these exact same problems with EVERY movie he's made... JJ Abrams has never made anything THAT good frankly even with all the time in the world... his movies aren't always BAD but they're never good. This is definitely incompetence.

ngl Argo was SUPER over-rated... just because he wrote Argo doesn't mean he can "put a story together" -- and if anything it's loosely based on a true story meaning anything good about it wasn't likely original to him anyway

I don't think there has ever been good evidence that there was a plan for the Trilogy from the beginning. Abrams and Kasden are photographed writing the movie during principal photography, they had an incredibly difficult time writing it, and George Lucas left part of the way through Pre-production. It is unlikely that they also had ideas for the other movies because: a) JJ Abrams wasn't directing those movies and didn't want to interfere creatively. b) Rian Johnson says that Abrams didn't have any guidelines other than Rey's parents would not be revealed. He could do whatever he wanted like: Ruin Luke Skywalker, kill Supreme Leader Snoke and barely move the plot along. c) Colin Trevorrow says that nothing was told to him as far as plot goes. He's ultimately fired for failing to deliver an adequate script. It's quite clear that Rey's parentage is a marketing gimmick to get people to come see all 3 movies for the answer. It's also clear she was meant to be the Daughter of Han Solo and Leia, but Carrie Fisher dying resulted in them having to change. If she was the daughter of 2 random people we have never seen before they could have shown their faces in the first movie. JJ Abrams was under pressure from Disney who needed to make back $4 billion dollars, and he used a cheap television gimmick to get people coming back for answers. The ultimate irony is that even if Rey was Han and Leia's daughter, the reveal in the last movie of the trilogy would also have been criticized for not having been worth the wait.

I was on On Set Dresser for years in Hollywood. On Sets deal with set continuity alongside Script Supervisors. One thing this video forgot to mention (although the excellent distinctions re: light came close) is that sets and locations will always be filmed through air. Air is full of microscopic particles that, themselves, bounce light. Like the “micro-poof” of dust as an actor sits on a sofa or rolls over on bedding. The stage dust that eddies around the grid, 15 feet above the set where the lights hang. All of this combines to the human eye (the ultimate in camera technology) to create a warmth that digital will likely never overcome.
