Holy hell man, I’ve been trying to figure out why I didn’t have a spark for the last few weeks, went out and removed the cheap little aftermarket lanyard I bought and replaced it with a wrench. Boom first pull! Wasted my money on a new CDI box and coil, I’ll be returning them both. Thank you sir!

Great job, take it to the shop and they will say, oh, you have a Serious fuel issue. $795.00 but I recommend that you spend an extra $500.00 so we can clean it out. Is that how it goes. This is not covered by the warrantee. lol - Pay up $1295.00 plus tax. Say what!!!! Great Video!

I love how you always refer to "we" when talking about PCG. Do you have a mouse in your pocket? Haha! It is interesting that the HIN plate was riveted onto the port side of the hull. It must be a pretty old boat because the standard has been on the starboard side since the early 70's. We have zero electrics on our dinghy other than a battery light on a 3-foot long PVC pipe in the next size larger PVC strapped to the transom as a socket to hold it and an all-round light stuck in for night operation. This way the pole can be removed when it is not needed. Usually it has a cheap dollar store garden light stuck into the pipe so folks can see the dinghy in the water when it is next to our sailboat or we are towing it. The fancy marine light usually lives in the plastic ammo box with the outboard tools and spare plug and we can swap it out if we need better visibility. We have no bilge pump -we use a plastic jug with the bottom cut off as a hand-bailer and also a big tile sponge to get the last bit of water out after bailing. It's a folding porta bote so the less crap inside the better when it is time to fold it up and store it on deck. I like your tye-wrap adjustable mount idea. I may use that someday.
@partscannongarage

LOL, I have commented in a few of the videos about why I am saying “we” and I really don’t know hahahah. I think I am imagining a live audience or something and we are all on this crazy ride together. I tend to put bilge pumps in anything that will be living at my dock just because if it rains heavily for a few days I don’t want to worry about it. On my tender that I used to use with my bigger boat I had nothing on that except a suction cup running light that I slapped on top of the outboard. Check it out; amzn.to/3rTgDnG

Hahahah, thanks Wayne, let’s hope the JBWeld holds up, this is my first time using epoxy to hold down a bilge pump. So far after a week of 90 degree days and intermittent heavy rain the pump and float switch are still solid.

Did you ground the electrical through the hull, or run ground wires? grounding through the hull can cause electrolysis on an aluminum boat, and can eat a hole in the hull, or corrode your motor.
@partscannongarage
@partscannongarage Жыл бұрын
I ran one common ground bus in that harness, 10awg. I have seen boats with heavy electrolysis damage and it looks like a shark chewed on the outdrive.

good question btw, I might need to edit the video to show that… I did one fuse for everything because I was lazy and this is a working boat but normally I would do one for each component… I hid a spare 15 and 20 in the battery box :)

Probably the rarest is what was called “air buoy”. It was a powered air source for shallow diving without a traditional compressed air backpack type tank set up.
@partscannongarage
@partscannongarage Жыл бұрын
WOW, I found them, the Johnson was called the Air Buoy and the Evinrude was called the Aquanaut… the search begins!!! Thanks for the tip, those are so cool.
@SharkoonBln

That primer is a really simple mechanism. It pushes the float down so the carb floods, giving you that little extra fuel you want for start. Some nitpicking: I´d squirt some oil into the cylinders before the compression test for lubrication, dry rings on dry bores isn´t exactly a good thing. Also some water down the "water flush" hole would help the poor water pump impeller, bone-dry decades old rubber rotating in an aluminium housing may be not your best choice :) Again, I´m only nitpicking, it is a very enjoyable video.
@partscannongarage
@partscannongarage Жыл бұрын
your points are extremely valid and I really appreciate them… I started out spraying some oil in the cylinders but then kinda “forgot” about that step as I kept going, doh! on the impeller I have definitely seen them just fall apart so I am going under the assumption that I will replacing all impellers before any of these motors go into service… can you elaborate on what you mean by “water flush” hole? I have seen hose connections for flushing on Yamaha outboard but I wasn’t aware other motors had things like that
@SharkoonBln
@SharkoonBln Жыл бұрын
@@partscannongarage Re: The water flush hole, it´s in this video at 12:59 :) Normally used if you run your outboard in salt water ( which will eat away all that aluminium ) to flush all the salt water out of the cooling system. If water trickles out of the water pumps´s inlet you know the impeller got at least a little bit wet :)
@partscannongarage
@partscannongarage Жыл бұрын
seems obvious now, when I saw that water flush hole I think I was assuming that was for something like that and then I forgot all about it…. I don’t think I have seen anything like that on the older evinrude or mercurys

The big shots use to keep them in the trunk of there Buick for rental boats back in the day. a realy big deal is they hAVE A EXTERNAL GAS TANK. uNLIKE THE 3hp witched leaked and only held about under a gal of gas. They did make a one gal ex tank or a 3gal tank. The drive pin was the weak part of the thing. When you broke that it was a bit of a pain to replace. But the motor was two cylinder and smooth. The lower unit it the famous weedless unit and a massing option

If it didn't run well, it wasn't taken care of or maintained properly. These used some of the best ignition components there were! They also used some of the same carburetors that all the others used! Dirty fuel systems and neglected maintenance will affect the theory of 2-stroke operations on any outboard motor.
