I am following your lead to become a Graphic Designer and I am already excited. What do you think about somebody with experience in another visual-related field (such as illustration) should show or not when presenting herself for a Design position. Should I include my work as illustrator? In what extent? Should I put the emphasis on Design and leave for last (or in between, maybe) projects what I love/worked as an illustrator? I am curious to know! Many thanks for your suggestions in advance. :)

Hi Marina, I responded via email, but I'll post here in case people are reading through the comments: Focus: It should be on typography layout and color. You're probably strong with layout and color given your illustration background. Exploration: It's important to showcase a range of design abilities, such as different typography styles, a clear understanding of different grids, and color palettes that make sense for the art direction of the project. Context: Design always includes a client and the projects have a lot of moving parts, so I always find it stronger when portfolios have those projects in context, such as posters, invitations, magazines, brochures, websites, social media graphics, marketing collateral, event design, etc. Not necessary to show all of these, but wanted to give you some ideas

Video display resolution of an image is measured in pixels per inch (PPI) not (DPI). Dots per inch (DPI) is a measurement of the number of ink dots in a printed line per inch. As a general rule to determine the required resolution, one would take the dot per inch (DPI) of the printed piece, double it, and that should be the minimum resolution of the image you provide for the best quality print. So, if something is printing at a 150 dot per inch (DPI), the target image resolution should be at least 300 pixels per inch (PPI).

Great ideas.Thank you so much for the video! This reminds me of the "diverging" and "converging" explained in the "human-centered design thinking" approach. Diverging is the mindset that the sky is the limit for generating ideas [Plato's approach], and then converging is taking into consideration the restrictions of resources/time/money/technology/etc..., i.e. what is feasible, viable, applicable [Aristotle's approach]. The final design solution should be a balance of both.

Man. I’m new to indesign. Photoshop seems like it can do everything this video shows without having to learn a new tool
@tirsogamboa
@tirsogamboa 29 күн бұрын
I would agree that Photoshop can do everything in this video specifically, but it can’t do everything else that InDesign offers, so the benefit is having all the tools in one app vs doing color in Photoshop and then typesetting in InDesign. I know it’s a huge hurdle learn InDesign, but it would open up opportunity to work on a breadth of other projects. Photoshop still has a place in the workflow, but when it comes to layout design, InDesign is the most robust to work on any project.

Haha! I actually have a reasoning for this. When I work on my content, I try to strip it of as many design elements as possible so viewers focus on the topic, in this case grids. I could do an exploration of dropcaps… need think about that one. Oh and this is a larger reminder for me to get a newsletter out soon 🫣
