Helpful video. Debating getting one for road trips, but if it draws that much battery and the price, in typical Elon fashion, varies; it sounds like a hard pass for me for right now. We have ethernet at home for just under $70 a month; so $150 a month to have the luxury of internet for random roadtrips sounds awfully painful. And that's assuming they keep the "pause" feature on the service and don't switch over to a subscription requiring you to pay a monthly fee regardless of use. I thought the entire purpose of Starlink was to provide internet to people globally at an affordable price? $150 is rather astronomical.
@justtravlin
@justtravlin Ай бұрын
I can confirm that the pause button still works as i use it constantly. It certainly is expensive but it is also due to each market its in and who it is competing against. There are many 12v conversions at the moment, and even factory 12v either now or in the future, not sure.

Great channel, guys! I, too, like the funnel idea, perhaps over the sink to minimise spillage. I would cut the hole in the wall and fit it off with a lockable filler personally. I prefer the 1" extruded pvc foam panels on top of the floorboards in winter if you cant get them underneath. Altough carpet with foam underlay works well on the inside. Have fun, Pete, AU.

@justtravlin

The app and hardware connect over the internet. The router will create a connection so the app will connect even before full internet access has been achieved. The 'roam' hardware I'm seeing in your video isn't matching the 'roam' hardware I'm seeing currently on offer at starlink's website. It would be wise to carry at least one Jerry can with you. There are some large sections with no services, especially if you want to get off the beaten track. Thank you for your very nice video. For the problem of your turnbuckles unscrewing, we have the same problem on the shrouds of sailboats. To prevent them from unscrewing, the screw threads are drilled at the end and a pin is passed through them which will prevent the cage from rotating

I have a 2010 FWC Finch shell (not made any longer) on a 2023 Tacoma extended cab, 6ft bed. Upgraded from a 2019 Taco double cab, 5ft bed. I find my Finch to be perfect for one person. It does get a bit cramped when there are two of us. Especially if it's raining our really cold outside. With the longer bed on the new Taco we can keep the tailgate on. That offers us a "back porch" which makes it easier to get in and out of. It also is a place to cook when there are no picnic tables (no stove or sink inside the camper). It also allows us to close the tailgate for additional security and I can use the backup camera. I agree, the interior turnbuckles are a bit of a pain, but on my old truck I had exterior turnbuckles. Either way, the camper moves a bit when on rough low-range 4x4 roads. The best part is that we're not having to drive a full-sized truck and can get in and out of places much better.
@justtravlin
@justtravlin 2 ай бұрын
Sounds like you have your camper dialed in for your needs! After living in ours for so long we know what we want to change (there's a lot). The tailgate is a great idea for multi use. We unfortunately couldn't use the tailgate which also took away our back up camera but there's a plan for that too. We are much happier with a small truck than a giant one with an ev3n bigger camper as we'd never get anywhere we'd want to go! But a few tweaks and life will be that much better

Last time I was in San Salvador, I stayed in La Zona Rosa at El Presidente Hotel. All of the businesses were protected by armed guards. Most people in the city open carried, not just pistols, but shotguns, sub machine guns, machetes. There was a distinct air of no one trusting anyone, even 10 years after the civil war had ended. I worked for a Canadian bank whose Data Centre was the former U.S. Embassy. Still had gun turrets (unoccupied), barbed/razor wire on top of the walls and thick steel doors. The U.S. had decided they no longer needed such high security measures for their Embassy. I mentioned this to a Salvadoran woman (she worked for the same bank) who was still living there at the time and told me "you are 100% correct that there is no trust." I truly hope those days are gone.

El Salvador was such an eye openening experience. We felt it was extremely safe. The president has done well to turn the country around. Many people whom left years ago are returning and and are extremely happy to see tourists in their beloved country. We were thanked sooo many times for visiting! It means a lot to them. We noticed that many countries in Central America still have armed guards everywhere and that might be the case for a while but el Salvador has really changed.
