VERSE 9. I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle, that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. DAR 335.3 The Cause of Banishment. - "For the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ." This was John's high crime and misdemeanor. The tyrant Domitian, who was then invested with the imperial purple of Rome, more eminent for his vices than even for his civil position, quailed before this aged but dauntless apostle. He dared not permit the promulgation of his pure gospel within the bounds of his kingdom. He exiled him to lonely Patmos, where, if anywhere this side of death, he might be said to be out of the world. Having confined him to that barren spot, and to the cruel labor of the mines, the emperor doubtless thought that this preacher of righteousness was finally disposed of, and that the world would hear no more of him. So, doubtless, thought the persecutors of John Bunyan when they had shut him up in Bedford jail. But when man thinks he has buried the truth in eternal oblivion, the Lord gives it a resurrection in tenfold glory and power. From Bunyan's dark and narrow cell there blazed forth a spiritual light, which, next to the Bible itself, has built up the interests of the gospel; and from the barren Isle of Patmos, where Domitian thought he had forever extinguished at least one torch of truth, there arose the most magnificent revelation of all the sacred canon, to shed its divine luster over the whole Christian world till the end of time. And how many will revere the name of the beloved disciple, and hang with delight upon his enrapturing visions of heavenly glory, who will never learn the name of the monster who caused his banishment. DAR 337.1

-- In 563 AD Columba (of Ireland) and twelve of his brethren set out to do missionary evangelism, settling in Iona, an island in the inner Hebrides, in Scotland. They founded the Abbey on Iona. They were Seventh-day Sabbath-keepers living in Scotland during the sixth century. This would continue until the eleventh century AD. -- “Professor Andrew Lang says of them [churches set up or inspired by St. Patrick]: ‘They worked on Sunday, but kept Saturday in a Sabbatical manner.’ -‘A History of Scotland from the Roman Occupation,’ Vol. I, p. 96. New York: Dodd, Mead, and Co., 1900. -- “Dr. A. Butler says of Columba: ‘Having continues his labors in Scotland thirty-four years, he clearly and openly foretold his death, and on Saturday, the ninth of June, said to his disciple Diermit: ‘This day is called the Sabbath, that is, the rest day, and such will it truly be to me; for it will put an end to my labors.’ -‘Butler’s Lives of the Saints,’ Vol. I, A.D. 597, art. ‘St. Columba,’ p. 762. New York: P. F. Collier. -- “In a footnote to Blair’s translation of the Catholic historian Bellesheim, we read: ‘We seem to see here an allusion to the custom, observed in the early monastic Church of Ireland, of keeping the day of rest on Saturday, or the Sabbath.’ 🫢-‘History of the Catholic Church in Scotland,’ Vol. I, p. 86. -- “Professor James C. Moffat, D.D., Professor of Church History at Princeton, says: “It seems to have been customary in the Celtic churches of early times, in Ireland as well as Scotland, to keep Saturday, the --Jewish-- Sabbath as a day of rest from labor. *They obeyed the fourth commandment literally upon the seventh day of the week* -‘The Church in Scotland,’ p. 140. Philadelphia: 1882. “But the Church of Rome could never allow the light of pure apostolic Christianity [in contrast to the “darkness of impure and corrupted apostolic Christianity,” the mother of which is the Romanized Papal Church headquartered in Rome!] to shine anywhere, for that would reveal her won religion to be apostasy. Pope Gregory I, in 596, sent the imperious monk Augustine, with forty other monks, to Britain. Dr. A Ebrard, says of this ‘mission’: ‘Gregory well knew that there existed in the British Isles, yea, in a part of the Roman dominion, a Christian church, and that his Roman messengers would come in contact with them. By sending these messengers, he was not only intent upon the conversion of the heathen, but from the very beginning he was also bent upon bringing this Irish-Scotch church, which had been hitherto been free from Rome, in subjection to the papal chair.’ -‘Bonifacius,’ p. 16. Guetersloh, 1882. (Quoted in Andrews’ ‘History of the Sabbath,’ fourth edition, revised and enlarged, p. 532).

-- "On the day of preperation, at the hour of dinner, there came out pursuers and horsemen" and Polycarp was killed "on *the great day of the Sabbath* at the eighth hour" (The encyclical epistle of the church at Smyrna, the Martyrdom of Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna. Verses 7.1 & 8.1 Charles H. Hoole's 1885 translation.) -- "Again as to the assertion that Sabbath has been abolished. We deny that He has abolished it plainly; for He was Himself Lord of the Sabbath." (Archelaus c. 3rd century.) -- "Gnostic 8th day Origins" "They affirm that man was formed on the eighth day, for sometimes they will have him been made on the sixth day, and sometimes on the eighth, unless perchance they mean that the earthly part was formed on the sixth day, but his fleshly part on the eighth, for these two things are distinguished by them." (Irenaeus of Lyons c. 2nd century.) -- The Gnostic "Eight Day" origins of Sunday rest. "But the works of the Nicolaitans in that time were false and troublesome men, who, as ministers under the name of Nicholas, had made for themselves a hersey, to the effect that what might be offered to Idols might be exorcised and eaten, and whoever should have committed fornication might receive peace on the eighth day." (Victorinious of Pettau c. 3rd century.) -- "For almost all the churches throughout the world celebrate the mysteries on the Sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of *Alexandria and Rome* on account of some *ancient tradition* cease to do this." (Socrates Scholasticus c. 380 - 439 A.D.) 👉Ancient tradition ~ die solis -- "There are many here among us now, who fast on the same day as the Jews, [Rome made the Sabbath day a fast] and keep the Sabbaths in the same mannor." (John Chrysostom c. 339 - 407 A.D.) -- 'Primitive Christianity' Athanasius Bishop of Alexandria tells us that "They assemble on Saturday, not that they are infected with Judaism, but only to worship Christ the Lord of the Sabbath" (Pseudo Athanasius; William Cave c. 1676) -- "Thus Christ did not at all rescind the Sabbath, He kept the law thereof.....even in the case before us He fulfilled the law while interpreting its condition; moreover, He exhibits in a clear light the different kinds of work, while doing what the law excepts from the sacredness of the Sabbath and while imparting to the Sabbath itself, which from the beginning had been consecrated by the Benediction of the Father. An additional sanctity by His own Beneficent action. For He furnished to this day divine safeguards..... *a course which His adversary would have pursued for some other days, to avoid honouring the Creator's Sabbath* and restoring to the Sabbath the works which were proper for it." (3rd century Tertillian on the Sabbath.) *Council of Laodicea* canon 29 A.D. 363 "Christians must not Judaize by resting on the sabbath day, but must work on that day, rather honoring --the Lord's Day-- [Sun-day] and, if they can, resting as Christians. But if they they shall be found to be Judaizers, let them be an anathema from Christ." ^ Proof that true Christianity still remembered the sabbath day, to keep it Holy, even in the fourth century A.D.

SUNDAY WORSHIP TEXTS Sometimes this gets updated. This overrides Constantine; and the Catholics. Plus; Ellen seems to describe "Sunday" in DA. What are those 2 days as of Exodus 12:16? What is that day of focus for Leviticus 23:11? 1. Jesus rose on Sunday not the Sabbath. Mark 16:9 2. All 6 appearances of Jesus happen on two Sundays, none on Sabbath. Mark 16:9; Matt 28:5-9; Luke 24:34; Luke 24:13-15; Luke 24:33,36 + John 20:19; John20:26. 3. Christians are recorded assembling three times on Sunday after resurrection and before ascension, never on the Sabbath. John 20:19 John 20:26 Acts 2:1 4. The ONLY TIME Christians are recorded to have assembled together was on a Sunday in Acts 20:7, never does it say the disciples assembled on the Sabbath. 5. The only day ever mentioned when Christians broke bread was on Sunday. Acts 20:7 again 6. Christians are commanded every Sunday to give into a common treasury of the church. 1 Cor 16:1-2 7. Jesus was declared the Son of God on Sunday. Romans 1:4 8. Psalm 2:7 "Today I have begotten thee" was fulfilled on Sunday when he rose. Acts 13:33 9. The sign that Jesus was glorified was given on Sunday see John 7:39 + Acts 2:1,32 10. The church officially began on Pentecost Sunday. Acts 2:1 11. Jesus was crowned king on a Sunday. Acts 2:33-36 12. The disciples reception of the promise of the Father on Sunday. Acts 1:4-5; 2:1-4 13. The Holy Spirit first fell upon the apostles on a Sunday. Acts 2:1-4 14. Salvation first preached by Peter on Sunday. Matt 16:19 and Acts 2:1,38,40-41 15. The Keys to the Kingdom of God were first used on Sunday: Mt 16:19 16. The great "Triumphal entry" ("Palm Sunday") happened on the first day. Luke 13:32 17. First time Jesus worshiped after resurrection was on the first day by Thomas. John 20:26 18. The first time we could be born again to a living hope was on a Sunday. 1 Peter 1:3 19. The first time Jesus had communion after his resurrection with His disciples, was on a Sunday. Luke 24:1,13, 28-35 The "Ministration of death"; means the 10cs; "WAS TO BE DONE AWAY "; means Abolished. 2 Corinthians 3:7 Sunday; is very logically meant to take over, instead of Sabbath. Did Ellen accidentally describe Sunday as AOK to God? "All days are God's; in which to carry out his plans for the human race." Plus; another description of Sunday, as there seems to be 5 descriptions in total for the entire book; "It was on the first day of the week that Christ made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem." Desire of Ages. Chapter 21-Bethesda and the Sanhedrin Jesus stated to them that the work of relieving the afflicted was in harmony with the Sabbath law. It was in harmony with the work of God's angels, who are ever descending and ascending between heaven and earth to minister to suffering humanity. Jesus declared, “My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.” All days are God's, in which to carry out His plans for the human race. If the Jews’ interpretation of the law was correct, then Jehovah was at fault, whose work has quickened and upheld every living thing since first He laid the foundations of the earth; then He who pronounced His work good, and instituted the Sabbath to commemorate its completion, must put a period to His labor, and stop the never-ending routine of the universe. Should God forbid the sun to Chapter 63: Thy King Cometh "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass." Zechariah 9:9. Five hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Zechariah thus foretold the coming of the King to Israel. This prophecy is now to be fulfilled. He who has so long refused royal honors now comes to Jerusalem as the promised heir to David's throne. It was on the first day of the week that Christ made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Multitudes who had flocked to see Him at Bethany now accompanied Him, eager to witness His reception. Many people were on their way to the city to keep the Passover, and these joined the multitude attending Jesus. All nature seemed to rejoice. The trees were clothed with verdure, and their blossoms shed a delicate fragrance on the air. A new life and joy animated the people. The hope of the new kingdom was again springing up.
