How do you protect the sealing when folding the soft top?
@classiced1416

Sometimes you need to carefully ease the frame past the seal, the design isn't great in that regard.

Love your vids Ed. I changed out my blower motor cap, the first seal and blower motor but couldn’t figure out how to change the lower seal under the blower motor. How is that done? I was lucky and found no corrosion or rust in my 1980 450 SL. Thank you!!!

Go to home depot or ?? buy a gauge that read around 60 psi , get a braze barb fitting to attach a piece of hose , with 2 clamps .disconnect the cold start valve , attach the hose to the rail , you are ready .Also looking at that video , you must organize the spark plug wires away from any fuel line . There is a fire waiting there [ common ]

Great attempt but wrong! The repair kit is very easy to fit, put the kit together on your handle but without the handle lobe in the new recess, then use a small flat head and pressure on the new lock actuator tab where the rod goes while using the screwdriver to tease the lobe into the recess. It took me less than two minutes, start to finish.... no swearing, use of a vice or eye protection. The spring will naturally sit in place then finish by a final tap on the locating pin.

I was tending to use 20w50 in the P38. I don’t know how much difference it makes, but many seem to favour the thicker oil for the Rover V8 as the engines get older.

@classiced1416
@classiced1416 3 ай бұрын
It’s Ok, 90 is a bit more than I would cruise at but it doesn’t become wayward at that speed like the Classic does a bit. Brakes were good for their time but by modern standards distances will be longer - I wouldn’t say it’s really a car for hard drivers.

Good video. A quick tip. When putting the soft top away, I put a thin towel across the length of the plastic windows. I feel like this reduces scratches from forming where the plastic rubs/folds against itself.
@peterrychel3640
@peterrychel3640 Ай бұрын
If your windows develop those scratches over time, I have found that applying wax (like what you use on your paint) does a great job of hiding those marks. Makes your windows look crystal clear.

What a Rube Goldberg mechanism this locking system is. I did get everything working using the technique in this video. After, a buddy of mine and I installed a failsafe work around should if this ever happen again. I attached a string to the center pin release and ran it back into the trunk. Now, if it ever gets stuck again, I have a manual release alternative!

Was the issue the injector seals did you figure it out I have the exact same problem and can get it to keep ruining It does run but once I press the gas pedal it shuts off
@classiced1416
@classiced1416 8 ай бұрын
So I slightly misspoke in the video - replacing the injector seals improved the vacuum sealing, but loss of fuel pressure was probably caused by the injectors themselves leaking, because the fuel pressure is in the fuel circuit, rather than the air.

Next to the wing where the hinge meets the car there is a little area where water pools on both sides of my 450SL. People say there is a drain hole there but i have seen it dry and fully lit and no drain hole appears to be there. So I have to dry it out each time it rains a lot to keep the water from sitting there.

Hi Ed. You have answered me a few days back, I’m looking around in your videos trying to troubleshoot my car. I talked with Pierre Hedary and he said injection leak is unlikely and he gave me two other options to look into: check valve being old or losing pressure at the regulator. But what’s weird for me now that I watched your video is that even after disconnecting the fuel pump and emptying the system from fuel, your car started on first crank. Since my hot starts are excellent, I’m starting to suspect something else: I’m not losing pressure (I’m, but within what’s normal), but simply when I cold start, the pump can’t pour enough fuel to the engine in one try. So my pump could be bad ? To be fair, even when I rotate the keys twice, it doesn’t start as fast as yours. Yours started like it was a hot start. I’m impressed and confused. If these info give you a new idea of troubleshooting I’ll take it. Love your videos!
@classiced1416
@classiced1416 9 ай бұрын
Yes it does sound like for some reason you don’t have sufficient pressure and/volume at cold start. It could be all of those things Pierre suggests, but if running pressure is OK I would have thought it’s not the regulator. How is the fuel filter, could that be restricting flow?
@AwakeDude911
@AwakeDude911 10 ай бұрын
if you want to really confirm this put the good key next to the ring and use the bad key to turn it over ..this is how alarm shops by pass the system with a good key taped near the ring usually in the column cover .. i know its a year late but some good info for next poor chap...
@Altanox
@Altanox 10 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for that video. I’m looking into difficulty cold starting. It helps to just turn the keys twice or three times before cranking, to make the fuel pump work. Does that mean my fuel pump is bad? Or could my injectors be leaking ? Or should I look into the cold start valve
@classiced1416
@classiced1416 10 ай бұрын
It could be all of those things! But possibly not leaking injectors, because unless they are very bad there wouldn’t be enough time to lose the pressure after the pump has come on. Leaking injectors sometimes result in too much fuel in the cylinders, but your symptoms suggest it’s not enough fuel / or fuel pressure. Suggest trying to check the system pressure while running. If it’s normal that might point to cold start valve rather than fuel pump. Another culprit may be the fuel pressure regulator. Funnily enough I have a hard cold start on the Range Rover at the moment and am going through a similar process!
