Fortunately, I've been there more times than I can count; it's like magic. It's fascinating to think, 72 years later, that these people in 1952-and everything in their world-now qualifies for the Old Car Festival in 2024. Amazing footage, thanks.

I was born in Detroit in 61 I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been there. We lived not far from there. I have black and white pictures from Greenfield Village probably from that time frame. I know one is of the post office there. Loved that place It wouldn’t surprise me if a family member was in video ❤

In 1971, I was 12 years old. My parents, me, and younger brother took a road trip in my mother's new Dodge Monaco 4 dr. From Petaluma Calif, we drove to Minnesota and Kansas to visit relatives and camped on the way. Most of the trip was a blur, but, I do remember my dad disappearing as we camped somewhere along the route in the midwest, and returning with an armload of fresh ears of corn. The other memories are a lake in Minnesota, where my uncle lived, that we could walk several yards into the water before it reached over our waist, and of Crater lake, Oregon on the way home. The 70s was a good decade for me.

In Belgium, there is the (private !) collection of d'Ieteren, which was the importer of Studebakers which has some very nice ones too, including a Weasel. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ldyql91prq_LmJ8.html (Sorry, it's in French: the company also imported Packard, and up to today VW, Audi and Porsche. It is even older than Studebaker, as they started in 1805 builder wheels and later tilburries etc. It is one of the two companies older than 200 years still existing in Belgium. They claim to be the oldest one in the world active in commercializing means of road transport.

Very impressive collection, my favorite Studebaker era definetely is the 1930's till the first half of the 1950's. Funny thing was with those bullet nose models, they looked so odd when seen from the side, that you couldn't tell for sure what was the front end, what the rear end, so some owners added a little plastic propellor on the bullet nose, there you have it, THIS is the front !

Yes, for a while I drove a '72 Nova with a 350 which was a great car, but by the end the rust was so bad it was just being held together with hopes and dreams

My dad loved Studebakers. Fortunately, there was a local Studebaker Club that sponsored annual car shows where we could admire many models. Wonderful to see all these examples. Wish he could have toured this. Collection collection

so many people love to modernize these and make them into a comfort loft. I don't have a problem with that, but I do think most of the charm is lost when you take out everything original and add modern crap that will fail within 5 years. Please keep posting content like this, you have a knack for talking to a camera.
@oldmodeltguyАй бұрын
Thanks! I’m going to try and keep my changes minimal, really just replacing the things that aren’t original anyway (curtains) or absolutely need replacing (floor) but still retain the original feel.

That's not the museum's car, but one that came in for the show. Yes, though, the museum does have a very early two lever car.

Unfortunately, I've never made it to Carlisle, but feel free to let me know your space number, maybe I'll make it this year. That's the great thing about this hobby, pretty much everybody is just a friend I haven't met yet. I've been a vendor myself at Hershey for maybe 25 years now. I should be back at my usual spot at OAI-21 this October if anyone wants to stop by and say hey (unless I'm out wandering around)

Thanks for sharing! I would love to spend a couple days there. I wonder if the Scotsman isn't a 57 1/2? I thought all the 58 models had dual headlights? Also, I have read that both Kaiser-Ilin (Ilin Ltd.) and Continental & General in Australia continued to assemble Studebaker CKD kits well after the Hamilton, ON shut down. I wonder if somewhere in the world there's a kit of a complete car that has yet to be assembled!
@oldmodeltguy2 ай бұрын
While other Studebaker lines moved to four headlights, the Scotsman kept the same fenders as '57 and thus the single pair of lights. I'm not sure about how long the supply of knock-down kits lasted in export markets. Ilin in Haifa continued to produce cars into 1967. It's certainly possible that a couple kits were thrown in the back of a warehouse waiting to be found.

I am assuming the glove box was used for his “side hustle”
@oldmodeltguy2 ай бұрын
From what I've read, 'sound engineer' was his side hustle. The guy was a major LSD chemist. He produced hundreds of thousands of doses and supplied the Beatles and other luminaries.
