And if I may add, how does one do the math for the amount of wideners for a net? I'm of the idea there is a probably defined ratio that adds up the sum of the widers to have so that one makes a perfect round net.I am doing the 14 widener which also, as it happens again, is my first handmade cast net to have an idea to make after trying for a year and a half following other means o doing it. I have two others that I had made on a previous occasions to now until I was half-witted. I Love You guys!!! Kudos. And a good job well done.I hope you know where that comes from. And really I went into churh last sunday holy day. I had been away 5:24 having nothing in my hand to give as church offering and tithing and for chuch collection days (which is once every month) that is acceptable bedore the Church. I keep bare faith to have faith it's going to be a thing of the past, I will say. THANKS VERY MUCH.

Hi, Did get me a little drawn aback, the many knots I got when the twine was finished from the needle and I having to tie in a new one after wards from the another needle and rejoin from the one one the netting. I will have to improvise as with the video one. I am learning how to make the loop correctly and from now on whenever something comes up I reaally will make a point of asking you guys. Thanks.

@louisoyugi837Ай бұрын
Hello, Mike and Phil. I am still working on my netting technique. There's no hint of finding any bonded nylon here I stuck to the only material at hand: that is normal twine. I have gotten around the problem of its uncurling when I pinch it with a scissor blades. I used to tie 2 knottings next to the place I needed on each side then I would cut inbetween them. I then decided on clear nail polish then I purchased a gas ligher to burn through the nylon preventing it from uncurling. And since the material is not dacron it has a tendency to do slipknots as I'm getting on the wideners. And for the widener I do three knots. One securing the mesh to the meshboard and one on each string of the mesh secured to the mesboard. Three instead of two knots at the expanders. I also do such three knots in sequence all around for the normal mesh..

Good stuff. I grew up in Hawaii and one of my friends who is Hawaiian told me he story of how he got into casting a net for fishing and he said he thought his grandmother was going to give him a net when infact she either gave him a net to repair or had him make one from scratch. I don't recall. I will have to ask him again. Net fishing seems to be making somewhat of a come back there. I am on one of thier facebook pages. I have watched some of your videos and like them very much. You would fit in with old school Hawaii for sure. Is there any books you recommend?
@mikeusina732 ай бұрын
Thanks for the nice note, I do not of any books on this subject. I have talked to some net fishermen in Hawaii, and definitely they fish differently.

In a 10ft cast net the first 14 row of widener how many rows do you have come down before you stop.
@JosephTristan-yb6tj3 ай бұрын
Why do you put 4 rows of knots without the widener at the end of the net? I have been making a bait net and it’s about 5’-5-1/2’ right now.

If anyone is interested in the electronic files, I'll sell them for $50 each. You would still need a blank mold and a machine shop with a CNC machine to make them.
@Naugway4 ай бұрын
I had 2 molds made, one for the shrimp net sinkers and one for the mullet net sinkers. I used the sample weights you sent me to have them made. They cost me quite a lot. I got the electronic files as well. The electronic files can be used in a CNC machine to remake the molds.

Hello, I have gone over my seventh plain mesh row. I made a count of the wideners going about the first widener row. If I made a count through that eigth row of the wideners that would be and I was getting 13 wideners finishing with 3 plain meshes. Now does each widener row after the first 13 wideners row be started with one mesh and a widener after that?
@louisoyugi8374 ай бұрын
I will get into watching the ones where there are wideneners

Hey, Mike and Phil. I am now at my seventh plain row and was it knots I could not tie or untie... How to tie the first 41 meshes was hard. I almost had 6 meshes and so much tied up together one after the other. I made expanders as well as meshes together on the 1st row.

It was getting the strain going arond to look for twine it is not very much in good supply. I could find a size 6 and 4 and not a 5. The sizes are not that well up in store. Also sinkers h are pricey no wonder how easy it becomes for one to make ones own sinkers..
