The South End was meant to be an upscale neighborhood, but it never panned out - until gentrification recently. The problem was that before it got fully filled in, there was harbor access along the east edge of the district, so industry set up there to be able to bring in freight, like lumber and coal. And well to do businessmen didn't want to live near where workingmen were on the street.

Thank you. Wow NYC what a big difference. Boston is great, just much more quieter than New York. Not as much to do here after a while it gets old, but I think it’s cleaner and safe in here.

Needs more homeless people
@virtualstroll
@virtualstroll 17 күн бұрын
Not in this side of the city, they usually keep it clean on Newbury street. Back Bay Area now provides 111 units to the homeless people. It’s an older building but with all renovated units. I was working in that building myself. It’s crazy how the homeless have better housing units than I do. In the heart of the city where we have the most luxurious brownstone where rent is outrageous 🤦🏻‍♂️ There’s still a lot areas where they hang out.

San Juan has so much potential..🌴 especially Condado and Isla Verde sections..🦋 but the government and the Mayor must do .more to keep those areas free of graffiti..noise pollution (loud music on.the weekends) pety criime..and homelessness .we must demand that our politicians do their job and maintain our city clean/,safe,/shelter for everyone ...San Juan could be the South Beach of the Carribean if only we had visionaries. .

I lived in the North End back in the late 70's, early 80's, it was almost all Italians back then. I had a two bedroom apartment for $120. a month. Boy has it changed! Somewhat disorienting, but fun to see all the same. I was hoping to see Salem St. and Bova's Bakery, my favorite. Thanks for the upload! 😊

Wow, I wish I could see how the neighborhood looked like back in the 70s and 80s. $120 a month for a two bedroom :-O hahaha wow. I can't imagine today's price. I would guess $4500. If anyone lives in the North End now, please let me know what you are paying? I just realized I didn't walk on Salem St. Sorry , I will make another video next time during the daytime, and I'll be sure to include Salem St. Thank you for watching! 😀

@@virtualstroll Thanks! I would LOVE to see Salem St. again. I also lived at 92 Prince St., at the site of the original Prince spaghetti factory I was told. The building was owned by the local mob bosses, the Angiulo Brothers, their 'office' was downstairs. Crazy times! I was part of the Boston Punk scene and used to go to Bova's Bakery late at night, like 2am, after the clubs let out. (Bova's is on the corner of Salem and Prince at 134 Salem). We'd get a still hot loaf of Italian bread and go home and eat it with butter.😋 $120. a month was not uncommon, I had a friend who had a tiny studio apt. for $45. a month! Thing is, there were no showers or tubs, you had to wash up in the sink. My sink was so deep I could sit in it! (The locals used the public bath house, I never went.) Also, the toilets were pull chain toilets and were in the hallway. I also used to live at 4 Garden Court, in the building Rose Kennedy was born in. There's a plaque on the facade saying so. I'd love to see Bova's again, it might make me cry, I miss it, so many fond memories.🥲 Hey, have a cannoli for me, will ya?💗

Your first shots are on Harvard Ave going from Brookline villeage to Coolidge Corner. Your left turn on Beacon Street is about 2 blocks before Washinhton Square. I was a paperboy all around this area in the 1950's and 1960's...
