I used to run a 'Big Cam' Transcontinental. 3.5m wheelbase 4 x 2. to dodge the permit game we used the border at Aachen Bildgen and as long as all your papers were tidy in a pile they stamped the white back sheet but not the green front page. Calais was different as we had to put a 50 franc note in the permit folded in half. As they opened the permit the cash dropped out and went in his pocket. No stamped permit!

Sat nav can be relied upon to take drivers where they have difficulties to get out, and I have not infrequently gone to get them. We had ordered a kitchen which we thought was made in England and hoped for the best. No problem for the driver from Lithuania who had set off from Lithuania 3 days earlier, had no sat nav and spoke no English aber ein bischen sehr gebrochenes deutsch. He navigated by map. I spent some time in the 80s in Southern Africa piloting by word of mouth as there were no road maps.

Lovely Swiss registered Volvo, back in the days when lorries from Switzerland were a regular sight in London's East End, Berna, Saurer and Volvo lorries among other makes parked up in all sorts of places around the dock areas and in the side streets near by. These days Swiss lorries are a lot rarer sight in the UK mainly being replaced by lorries from Eastern Europe.

As far as I understand from the signs that appear in the frame at the 12th minute and 38th second, this is most likely the Refahiye(Because a place with Erzincan on one side and İmranlı on the other can only be Refahiye) district of Erzincan(where I was born) province. However, when going from Refahiye to Tehran, you do not pass through the pass named Kızıldağ(If you look at the 13th minute and 12th second of the video, you will see that he passed through the pass called Kızıldağ), but you pass through the pass named "Sakaltutan". Why such a thing is not possible: Because the Kızıldağ pass is to the west of Refahiye. But this small mistake does not change the fact that the images throughout the video are very wonderful. Best regards from Germany

I hitch hiked the Silk Road in the early 1970s got a lift from Istanbul to Iran with a convoy of three German lorries l travelled with the leader of the convoy who had done the trip before, but got out at the Bazagan border because of the sever delays with the lorries attempting to cross. I walked through the border and caught a lift on the Iran side taking me the Tehran. What an amazing journey on the Turkish side the roads that ran straight through the middle of the Turkish villages. The children and men would stand in the middle of the road with their hand out demanding baksheesh blocking the lorry if you did not give the cigarettes or money they had a large rock behind their back and would stone the windshield of the lorry, Turkish bandits riding around on horse back carrying ancient long barrel rifles, you would be mad to stop.

Why does Pat’s truck keep changing? One minute he’s driving a 3600 without advisor and the next he’s driving. A 3600 with advisor. Did one of those trucks break down during production of this video?

I enjoyed watching that. Hats off to H and all lorry drivers. Special breeds. I hope families Understand all the hard work and emotional dilemmas just to put food on their table. All lorry drivers need more respect. They are ships of the road for everything. 2024.... Still treated like dirt from governments and road planners in the UK. Any big roads are now turned into unused cycle paths and bollards everywhere and also stricked entry into some towns/cities. Narrowed to make a lorry driver look stupid. Not great pay for some still......

Eric
