The ons without sleeves you laid out on the floor look like shellacs. Don’t play them on your normal record player. Thy have to be played with a special needle at 78rpm. Also they are very brittle and can shatter when you drop or knock them somewhere. They are kept stacked horizontally so that they don’t warp over time, which shellac tends to do.

you need a very specific needle to play 78's - I highly doubt even a universal needle is made for, or will work on a Crosley

@@jordanamandareact The needle on your record player has a red plastic bit which means it's a 'plug and play' needle for Vinyl records at 33/45. Needles intended for vinyl, and usually made from diamond, will unfortunately cause damage to the grooves of a shellac record. It's usually possible to get a similar 'plug and play' needle with grey plastic on it (and typically the needle itself will be sapphire), which will be designed for playing 78rpm shellacs, and which shouldn't cost that much. Your record player must have a 78rpm setting though, otherwise even with the right needle you'll still have to play it at 33 or 45 into a computer and then use software to shift the speed

I think the records at the end that you found needed speeding up is probably because they are 78s and your player probably does 33 1/3 and 45 rpm as the old 78 format largely died out by the 70s if not earlier. I think that is probably also why they are much thicker as it was an older production method and spinning more quickly, the disks had to be firmer to play. I could have sworn I’d heard the Carpenters doing a cover of Help by the Beatles - are you positive it’s a different track and not just a very different take on it? I’m going to go hunting for that Carpenters track but…I swear I can hear Karen singing Help! by the Beatles in her inimitable style in my head. Thanks for sharing this - I grew up with my parents having some similar records to these - although my dad was mostly into brass bands and particularly the Salvation Army bands, but they also had some readers digest collections and some of the old musicals like South Pacific and Oklahoma era.

Lilly Tomlin was in a film with Bette Midler called "Big Business". The obscene phone call....... he said what huh..huh and he said he would do what and he never left his name. I would suggest listening to Megitsune live at PIA, and also the three different version of Headbanger, Su-metal's version, Moa-metal ver and Momo-metal ver. Momo honestly fits so well into this band with her growls. You probably didn't notice it was her growling several parts of Ratatata 😊

I was at McDonalds contemplating this video and I read somewhere the inspiration for this happened over years. So that being said this story is one that stays with you so what accrued to me about this story was that Steve was probably the father of the twins which adds to the irony that Violet’s father was abusive then she went to Steve who was the same and she gave birth to Screach who was the final part of this sad legacy of violence 🙏

This is what unconstrained genius looks and sounds like. Tuomas is a visionary and he does exactly what he pleases and goes wherever his muse takes him. It's on us to keep up and follow along. That he leaves many behind is no surprise. This... this composition is fucking epic. And it's as deep as the Marianas Trench and with more layers than a baklava. You can watch and listen to this 50 times and still be rewarded with new information, new insights. The owl - avatar of Athena, goddess of wisdom. Floors plunge and deep dive into a blank page of an edition of Darwin’s On the Origin of the Species. The cloud of butterflies represents the myriad of the smallest events upon which our existence turns (the butterfly effect). The butterfly was also regarded as an emblem of the soul by the ancient Greeks. Even the relentless pace of the beat symbolizing the inevitability of the passage of time, the densely layered chorus of our ancestors, the ghostly presentation of the band members. Troy's deeply emotional rendering of the last verse. The ghostly sighs of the chorus at the very end as we embrace the light in our final moments. Layers upon layers and multiple meanings, folks. Nightwish doesn’t make songs or albums - in recent years, they have published portfolios of art where the nature of our existence is the subject matter. This, it would seem, has been disappointing to a number of the members of the community. I’ve seen so many complaints about this masterpiece coming from people who have little to no understanding of what’s going on. If you’re here for Floor or the head bang, then you’re most likely going to be disappointed and you’ll find lesser amusements available to you elsewhere. Tuomas, Floor and Nightwish doesn’t need your approval. For some, this has moved past their understanding or inclination to understand. Tuomas is an erudite man with a deep love of this world and for this existence. He is a man hungry for comprehension, for understanding and for love. This existence is awesome if you would only take the time to grasp for understanding. The glittering beauty of mathematics, music as the voice of God, the natural world with its "endless forms most beautiful". It's all there for the beholding. But you have to reach out for it, grasp it, you must have a savage thirst for comprehension as the price of admission. This quote from Richard Dawkins from The Greatest Show on Earth is the perfect expression of what Tuomas is up to: “After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isn’t it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it?"

"Ghost Love Score" is a bit over ten minutes as performed in concert - but some of it is cut from the concert addition. In concert, it is displayed behind them. "The Last ride of the Day" is just short of 10 minutes. NW has shorter songs, however there are two longer songs that are significant. "The Poet and the Pendulum" is around 15 minutes, but don't listen to it without getting the backstory because the song is essentially a musical suicide of the keyboard player (Tuomas) who writes all the music. The backstory is important. The longest song, I think, is "The Greatest Show on Earth" at around 21 minutes. It's about the Big Bang, creation of pretty much everything including the Earth, and the evolution up to now. Marko was still in the band then. Floor sang, Marko sang, and Troy sang. Usually sung at the close of a concert. There are two powerful versions. The one in Tampere, Finland is quite a show, however they start rolling credits before the final words are spoken. The one in Wembley is interesting for the different instruments used AND because the person speaking at the end is on stage. I've seen some people react to one half at Tampere, then switch to the Wembley version for the end. Most people say that even long songs don't seem to actually last as long as they are. Viewers get invested and don't feel the time pass.

Hello. I only just saw your reactions to The Warning, who are three sisters from Mexico. This is just a suggestion, but I think it would fast-track your understanding of this band if you reacted, in the one session, to two particular renditions (by them) of "Enter Sandman" the Metallica song. I don't think you will be disappointed. The first is the video of Enter Sandman they recorded in 2014, when Daniela (guitarist) was 14, Paulina (drummer) was 12, and Alejandra (bassist) was 9 years old. It went viral and has had 25M views now on KZfaq. The second (also on KZfaq) is their re-worked version of the same song performed at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 08/29/2022 (also on KZfaq). They recorded this version at the request of Metallica. Enjoy.
