It's hard being a creator of any kind. You have to give all these explanations and justifications for things you do, even when you are right, lest you incite a swarm.

I use a lot of cedar pickets for projects with my carpentry students, usually pay about $3.60 at a local store. What are they charging you for the AC2 pickets? (6 footers). We get a lot of requests for various planter boxes, I use pallet wood and cedar most of the time.
@DavidCanMakeThat3 күн бұрын
Here AC2 pickets are about $1.68 each currently.

Don’t forget to check your state’s laws before collecting sales taxes. Acting on behalf of the Department of Revenue may require you to register or get special authority.
@DavidCanMakeThat3 күн бұрын
To clarify, I didn’t suggest collecting sales tax. I was saying that your total cost for materials includes the sales tax you paid. To estimate materials cost with list prices only, means that you are paying the sales tax for those materials out of your own pocket.

The woodworking field most likely knows the information, "apparently not all by the comments" and there's still a large group that sees green lumber and are gun shy about it. Which limits the customer base. Maybe make both and price accordingly. New sub!

I have the 7500 model and it's unusable as the belt slips on any contact with wood. I see no way to adjust tension either. Just that lever on the side with no obvious adjusters.

The information you shared at the end of the video was awesome and very important information for someone wanting to start a new business, or side hussel. As a business owner and accountant, I have seen many business failures from not considering ALL of the costs of doing business. I counseled many start up individuals to keep 2 time cards. One when doing production, and one when doing administrative or support work. Time getting supplies, delivering,talking with clients,or administrative functions. Those hours add up fast and really can cut the profit per hour earned. Mileage costs can add up too. Keep track of mileage as it is a tax deductible item. As are tool costs.

I purchased one from Harbor Freight and I could not get it to work consistently. It would sink one to three brads and quit. I tried brads with lengths of 1" to 1 3/4" - no luck. I returned the tool to Harbor Freight and purchased a Ryobi Brad Nail Gun from Home Depot. The Ryobi unit was a bit more expensive ($119 without battery). However, I got a 10% veteran's discount from Home Depot which dropped the price and I already own several Ryobi batteries and chargers. The Ryobi seems to work O.K. and it is considerably lighter in weight than the Bauer.

With your 10" miter saw, you can cut 3 pickets at a time . Cut the first to length and use it as a templet. Set up a stop or stack all 3 pickets and the templet plank on top, make a line/mark remove the templet picket and cut all 3 pickets at one time. It's a time saver. learned this building fence's. Great guy, great video.

Two tthings of caution with this jig: 1. The drill stop collars do slip often on repetitive use. I ended up using a split ring collar and got better results. 2. Be very careful on setting your drill depth on box joints. Allow for the brad point on the drill bit so you dont penetrate the face side of your stock. I would opt for a standard drill bit tip.

is PT safe to use for garden beds, especially if its gonna be used for vegetables? I only ask because my local store has PT pickets and non-PT pickets (which are usually more expensive...)

Don't buy from any retail store. Find your wholesale suppliers and buy there. Also you might talk to local fence contractors, they may have surplus material from a job you could buy cheap. There are hundreds of products that you can produce. Many outdoor furniture products can be made from pallets. You are on the right track . You have to account for ALL your expense including paying yourself. It's not worth the effort if you can't get paid at the end of the day. Good luck.

From Home Depot: Ground contact lumber can be used for raised garden beds for ornamental plants. If edibles are to be planted, you can line the pressure-treated boards with plastic. This will keep soil from making contact with the wood. Don't use plastic across the bottom of the garden bed, as that will prevent drainage. Natural cedar and fir can be used for raised garden beds for edibles.

You poured twice as much linseed as tung oil into the jar. Then you added about one quarter as much grated beeswax. So it's more like a two to one mix to four mix. Does it matter much?
