What equipment is used to connect xlr mic to camera?

Hi. It was recorded internaly via XLR input of the small Canon camcorder. There are several Camcorders available on the market with XLR input like The Canon XA40, XC55 or other brand camcorders. For some DSLR you can buy an XLR Adapter like for the GH5 or Lumix S1, S5. Also what you can do, which could be a better option is to record the audio externaly via an field recorder like the sound devices mixpre 3 or a Zoom F6 or a Handrecorder like the zoom H5. You can sync the Audio in post or feed the 3.5mm audiocable to your camera mic's input. We use a Lumix S1 with a Sound Devices MixPre3 and for Run-And-Gun person videos we use the Panasonic XLR Adapter, which sits allways on the Camera anyway. Check out Curtis Judd's Chanel kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNmFmLul3dnFZWQ.html&ab_channel=CurtisJuddAudio He covers a lot of topics of Audio for Video.

@@schweizerbildunggmbh9106 Thank you for the detailed information. Do you know any alternative for the MixPre3(no noise for Canon cameras, and run on continuous power rather than battery)? It is out of stock worldwide. And I have tried Zoom H5 and Tascam's field recorder, their audio outputs direct to the camera are very noisy and it seems the ground issue is not properly adressed.

@@MonkeyDLuffy-cq2lo Hmm.. What kind of microphone do you use? The BCM 705? You might use also a preamp like the Fethead Pre Amp. This is realy necessary. Have a look in the link. www.gear4music.ch/de/Recording-and-Computer/TritonAudio-FetHead-In-Line-Preamp/3R9H?origin=product-ads&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6NOPBhCPARIsAHAy2zAHFFaQzyjF59CfT_PcluUmB4xcLUhl7GZ_r-GG0ISUce-eg7-Vt1MaAskzEALw_wcB There are also other options like Cloudlifter. See here a comparison from Booth Junkie: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNJzfL1nlbSnlp8.html&ab_channel=BoothJunkie The recorders Zoom H5 and Tascam's field recorder should be absolutely fine and you won't get much better with a Mixpre. If you have issues with the noise in camera then lower the audio-gain-level from your mic input in the settings of the camera. On your Zoom H5 or Tascam you have to rise the Aux/Output level. If you have a camera with not great preamps for the mic, it can get noisy. But this should help. I would just use the Audiofiles from the recorder for best results. :) I hope this helps! @@andreyboyko752 Thanks, I did't think abaout a headset before. But for my purpose it is fine. I like the strong amplifier, also preamplifier and therefore a low ground noise with xlr inputs, but i have to admit the set up is overkill... For some of our Online-Meetings we just use a simple webcam and the build in mic. That gets the job done perfectly for class without any strugle. Vocal narrations for e-learning projects with our b2b clients we usualy hire professional vocal artists. Received my BCM 705 this week. Really loving the sound. Like most closely-worked microphones it does need a windscreen, which I had purchased by accident a few months earlier. It sort of spoils the streamliner look, but I've already gotten used to the unique look with the windscreen. My only big complaint is for a microphone in this super premium price range it should have a multi-position roll-off switch, like the 5-step switch on the Sennheiser MD421, with one position being totally flat response. Otherwise, it sounded pretty good right out of the box. I only had to do some minor EQ to pump up the low end, which rolls off a little too much for my taste. But it certainly sparkles and delivers incredible detail, compared to the MD421 it replaces. It has above-average gain for a dynamic mic, but it is still helped by putting a FET Head in the line. I did have to roll back the pre-amp a little more because it doesn't need as much pre-amp as the MD421. I think Neumann missed the boat here by not putting a FET Head-like circuit onboard for this, their only dynamic microphone. It would be more consistent since every engineer expects to use phantom power on mics with the Neumann logo. It really only needs about a 10db lift. The shock mount doesn't protect against bumps as well as, say the TLM 103, but I suppose they were aiming for an "industrial strength" mount that could withstand the punishment of 24/7/365 broadcast operations. Off-axis noise rejection is outstanding, so the BCM 705 is a good choice for voiceover work if your "studio" is anything less than a professionally isolated sound booth.

I got some additional input from my Broadcast Supply West rep and he convinced me the 705 was the way to go, so I ordered it today. I watched your review again and was very impressed with how quiet the 705 is when you weren't speaking. I am a little concerned some of the popping I hear but I did order the foam wind screen, just in case. I have to use a foam screen on my Sennheiser MD421 for the same reasons. I understand the base unscrews for broadcast applications for talent to have their own cover for hygienic purposes and to identify the different bases, they are color coded. Was there some kind of color coding bands in the box or do you have to order the base with a different color?
@schweizerbildunggmbh9106
@schweizerbildunggmbh9106 5 жыл бұрын
I congratulate you on the purchase. Yes, and I have recordet the audio directli with the camcorder, not a seperate oder proffessional audiorecorder. I think that comes from my voice. An additional pop filter would definitely help. No, the cover is not marked and in the same color like the mic. But you can, for example, make a punctiform mark with a paint if you have several covers/bases. You also can easily wash it.

Thanks so much for introducing me to the Fethead. This has to be the greatest dynamic microphone accessory of all time. I also enjoyed your review of the BCM 705. I'm still debating whether to get the 705 (Dynamic) or the Condenser (104) version. In overlaying their frequency diagrams, they're about the same. The condenser version has much greater sensitivity and, consequently, a much lower noise floor. There's only a $381 price difference (US) reduced to $296 when you consider you need to buy a Fethead to get comparable pre-amp output. What I can't tell is if you still get that bass boost from the proximity effect. But I suppose that could be manipulated in post processing, so I'm leaning to the 104.

@schweizerbildunggmbh9106
@schweizerbildunggmbh9106 5 жыл бұрын
I now that there are other and better microphones out there. I am sure that the tlm 103 is better in terms of sound quality and sensitivity. The BCM 705 on the other hand will only record the sound which is close to the microphone. This means I do not record the noise from my office neighbors and it is less sensitive to reflections from the wall. With a tlm 103 I would definitively want a recording booth. Well, after a few moths of use I have not changed my opinion. I record very clear voice over for my E-Learning courses, without any annoying sounds in a very short time. In post I only do normalize the track and change it to stereo. That is it.
@korymichaels6217
@korymichaels6217 5 жыл бұрын
Both BCM series mics are really optimized for boom mic operation in a radio studio or for home studio voiceover work. The condenser version, the BCM 104, has virtually identical specs to the TLM 103, but with the BCM 104 having a few more controls (a hi-pass filter switch and pad switch). The BCM 104 can also tolerate a higher SPL. Condenser mics have their benefits, but you still find most close-worked mics are dynamics. I have a U87 I never use for VO work because it's just too sensitive to close-work artifacts like wet lips, paper rustling and other off-axis noises, etc. Condensers also don't give the exaggerated proximity effect (bass boost) that announcers prefer (although that can be recreated with EQ). I would add that choosing a microphone is a bit like trying on different pairs of shoes. What fits one person's voice might not be a good fit for someone else. My U87 sounds amazing for female vocals but isn't the best fit for my particular voice.

I remember a a voice artists purchasing one and it sounded great here I don't hear that processed sound that the VO artist gave it. The SM58 atne 705 sounded the same. Can it be the Preamp that's driving it but again I hear that Classic SM58 Sound and not very much impressed with the 705 here.
