Hey, bro. '91 Hawk here - guess what color ;o)) 84k miles and still running strong. (No lie - the 84k mi. on "Tokyo Rose" since I've had her have been 95% highway). So the clutch I replaced @ 26k still feels like a new one. Got her used @ 18k mi. Aside from consumables (oil, filters, brake shoes, pads, sprockets, clutch, chains, tires, etc.) the only major(ish) repair so far has been to replace an "aged out" valve cover gasket . . . a task which requires three hands, with 7-8 fingers on each. Nuffa that. In the 11 years I've had the bike, the idle speed's remained about 1400 rpm. I'd like to try it down a bit. Since it has to be adjusted w/the engine fully warm, can you really get your hand to the adjustment screw w/out some sort of burn? I'm asking because just to take off the seat I've got to remove a full touring windshield and fairing, a backrest-trunk from the pillion, extended luggage rack behind that, and then all sorts of rigging and ties, including another 14 in. luggage rack extension. Can you reach the idle screw on a stock, warmed-up engine?

84K miles is absolutely incredible!! Super cool and thanks for all of the info! I hope the bike gets to 100k 😄 Truly incredible I have since sold mine but sometimes regret it! To answer your question directly; Yes, you can adjust the idle speed screw when warm. This is a good question. In fact, the first time I adjusted it I wore skin tight garden gloves that went above my wrist bone to protect my hands from the heat. I would highly advise not adjusting when hot, just warm. Yes, adjust when warm, I would recommend thin gloves (or use 2 screwdrivers lol, I did this too) I had my idle around 1200-1400RPM at first, but I liked it idling around 1000RPM 1st gear engaged better at this idle speed. I hope this helps and safe riding!

@@proctoredtruth Thanks, PT. It's mainly the same !clunk! when going from neutral to first that (finally) has me looking to lower the idle. I'll give it a try. Oh, and Rosie says "Hi".

For some reason I bind it the exact same way with the same issue and nothing happens. Is there a different issue that could be causing this?

@@supervegito8340 then, if you have a similar issue with the speakers in the trunk, and wires being messed up, there is something grounding your system in that area! Guarantee it Are there any open ended/disconnected wires on the speakers in the trunk?

is it clockwise or counterclockwise to increase the speed?

Hello! I no longer have the bike, but clockwise opens up the throttle plates, increasing engine speed and RMP counterclockwise is to decrease it hope this helps!
