hi JP! would you be able to tell me how deep you cut the notches on the shelves so they mount on the other hole? I could totally use this hack because I need to make my shelves narrower and this sounds perfect!!! you might have just solved my problem, thank you! 🤯 0:50

Hi, glad the video is of help. As you look at the shelf from above, it is already notched 15mm. If you extend this so the total notch is around 42/43mm then it should fit comfortably on the next set of pins. Good luck!

Good job. I think it would look better with the wood stained

Beautiful! The wood block is beautiful and so is that red painted interior on the shade. Really beautiful.

Can you add some more detail about the jig you made to drill the holes for the top of the door? I'm assuming you used that for the bottom pivot pin as well? How did you determine how deep to drill the top and bottom holes?

My boyfriend's eyes widened when he saw your hack of deepening the notches. He is obsessed with Ivar, and this never occurred to him. Now he is talking about the possibilities.

Nice looking table ? what type of plywood did you use Thanks, I am make an end grain desk for my Daughter but was going with the strip only no bottom sheet like you did MY table top is like 24"X 5ft thickness like 1 1/2"

Thanks! It was my first time trying this out so I just used construction grade plywood. If I was to do this again and for a cleaner result and no voids in the plywood, I'd use a nicer furniture grade birch plywood. Best of luck with your build!

I like when videos keep the mistakes and the ‘less than perfect’ I’m a total beginner and some of these ‘make a simple bedside table’ videos KZfaq suggests to me seem to be more about having £250k of specialist equipment and 20+ years experience, and less about just trying to bring an idea come to life. Also totally love how it looks without the plinth, very sleek and modern.

If you're planning on making a bifold door like in this video then you shouldn't need any soft close hinges.

Curious, if you did this with sandpaper to finish the exterior, how would you do it? Some type of stain for color then a seal? How many hours to make also?
@jp_makes
@jp_makes 2 жыл бұрын
The piece was sanded on the lathe and then a final hand sanding. The colour and finish was achieved with a 50/50 mineral oil and beeswax blend. I can't really remember how long it took to make this, it was quite a while back. Thanks for watching

@jp_makes

Maybe, depends on the type of kit you buy. Or you could buy two kits and have two doors on either side to make for a total of four panels?

This gave me hope that it's possible with low-cost materials... THANK YOUUU! 3:13 Why not use 3 hinges to connect it though? It'd be nice if the joint-like connector is sandwiched in between the two glued plywood so that it won't be too visible, but I guess it leaves a gap?

Nice job! Is the hinge completely visible on the other side? If so, that kind of defeats the purpose of having such a minimalist and architecturally interesting door.

That's a fair comment if you dislike hinges. I used a continuous piano hinge top to bottom and I like the aesthetic but that's just my opinion! Thanks for watching. ☺
