Interesting idea, i be tempted to try different ways to generate the vortex. Maybe lobg slits cut at a 45 degree angle with a flap along rhe top folded in at a 45 degree angle. I'd love to try but burning is banned in my community.

Now it only needs some sharks! But seriously...Before you cut, drill, or weld an old drum, make sure the old contents were not flammable. Vapors can be just as explosive as the former contents, and guys have gotten killed cutting into "empty" drums that exploded.

That is pretty cool. I think the ultimate set up would be a hi flow pto driven pump and some bypass valves such that you could pull up to any farm pond or stream and fill it up and the distribute it
@StillwaterHomestead
@StillwaterHomestead 9 ай бұрын
You can simply reconnect the hoses to the opposite sides of the pump and suck water or of a pond or stream. You would want to add a good basket filter to stop from sucking muck up into the pump though. I originally thought of using this to pump directly from my creek to water the garden, but it doesn't always have water, so I got the ibc tote instead.

There’s so much conflicting information. Here’s what I’ve found. Leaving the suckers will increase the yield with smaller tomatoes, pruning the suckers will result in a lower yield with bigger tomatoes.
@jamzey8373
@jamzey8373 Жыл бұрын
Go more along the lines of Dont prune determinates (lower leaves are fine to prune, disease is still a thing) but prune the suckers on indeterminates. The exception is if you have the space for 2 main heads and depending on the cultivar you are growing. Since determinates dont keep growing, theyll stop focusing on growing the green anyway, and the indeterminates just need too much energy to keep growing, hence pruning the suckers.
@StillwaterHomestead
@StillwaterHomestead Жыл бұрын
I almost exclusively grow indeterminate tomatoes. I should have put that context in the video. I started on a series of shorts called Tomato Tips where I clarified this. You prune determinate and indeterminate tomatoes differently. I didn't know this early on, and never liked growing Roma tomatoes because they didn't produce enough. Well, they are determinate tomatoes, but I was pruning them aggressively like an indeterminate, so I got very few tomatoes. Thanks for the comment!

Unless you're growing determinate tomatoes. Then you leave everything on the plant because it won't produce anymore vines/fruit than it's genetically coded for.
@StillwaterHomestead
@StillwaterHomestead Жыл бұрын
I only grow indeterminate tomatoes, and if I don't prune them, they get completely out of hand. I have seen some varieties that have fewer suckers, but they are still a problem if not pruned. Maybe it's because I use a string trellis, so I am expecting only one main vine.
@StillwaterHomestead
@StillwaterHomestead Жыл бұрын
@IslandOfMisfitPets, I need to apologize. I misread your comment. You said to leave everything on the plant when they are DETERMINATE tomatoes. For some reason, when I read your comment, I thought it said INdeterminate. My bad. Yes, you are right. You don't want to prune too much off of determinate tomatoes because they set all their fruit at once, and you want as many flowers as you can get to maximize production. Hence you want those suckers to grow into flower-producing stems, so you don't prune them. I apologize for the confusion on my part.

There is a chain we used while I was working in Bastrop that was super aggressive and would throw the wood out in strips and not chunks. If I can remember which chain it was I'll let you know.
@StillwaterHomestead
@StillwaterHomestead Жыл бұрын
Since I recorded that video, I ordered 2 Granberg ripping chains. They arrived yesterday and I can't wait to try them out. That last chain in the video was a ripping chain, which is why it was so much faster. I had recorded a segment on the differences between ripping and cross-cut chains, but removed it to keep the video short. Maybe I'll cover it in another. Is that the chain type you were thinking of? A ripping (or milling) chain?
@treykleppe7511
@treykleppe7511 Жыл бұрын
@@StillwaterHomestead I can't remember exactly what it was. All I remember is having to sign a waiver saying we wouldn't sue if we got hurt but the chain.
@StillwaterHomestead
@StillwaterHomestead Жыл бұрын
I know that a very sharp chain will pull strips of wood off, not little chips. A dull chain makes dust, not strips. It's one way to tell how sharp your chain is. However I think part of that has to do with how fast it is cutting through the wood. The faster the cut, the deeper each chisel is cutting, thus producing a bigger chunk or strip of waste. I have seen strips pulled off when cross-cutting wood, but never when milling. Perhaps its because milling is cutting the full width of the log and thus goes much slower.
