Hi! Almost all layers in Photoshop show information in a rasterized format (pixel-based), but may gather that information from vectors. For example, layers including the background layer, any new layers you create and images you import such as PNG and JPEG are pixel based (rasterized). To use vectors in Photoshop you can use paths (they are not techincally layers, but a seperate category). Layers may draw information from paths and shapes to produce their pixel-based look. Shape layers are vector-based. They use a shape path to determine their pixel-based look. You can scale the paths to any size and Photoshop will adjust the pixels for it. Text objects aren't rasterized, but aren't vector-based either, they have their own category. Hope this helps!

@@MyDesignClass thanks for the reply, ill look into what u said. yes paths are vectors as they use anchor points and paths. what i was asking is that if only we talk about layers itself (ie the blank layers and nothing on it ) whether you added a layer from the add a layer option the plus option below(transparent checkered layers) and the default background layer without any thing on them whether it be a image or any vector based item, only the blank layer itself, then are those layers itself raster based layers cause im assuming these layers are made up of raster because photoshop being a raster based program. i hope my question is not confusing. i didnt find a ans to this on the internet. anyways thanks for the ans
