I lived in Casper Wyoming. Probably a few bass down towards alliance Nebraska near Guernsey and Glendo reservoirs. Probably some near Gillette at Keyhole. But very few in the rivers. Just not enough food and warmth. Live in Oklahoma now. Bass are everywhere

I went down to San Marcus with all water guides a couple of years ago and had a terrific experience. They asked us if we wanted to catch more fish or bigger fish. We chose to go for quantity and we caught 30 fish between me and my dad as a bonus on help with our technique.

Thats the exact same fly rod that I started with! Only my dad and the tackle shop guy (at The Sportsman on Arlington Rd in Bethesda, MD - long since closed) paired it with a Medalist 1495 reel. 50 years ago almost exactly. Thanks Alvin.

As a kid, I had an 7wt. Eagle Claw Trailmaster fly / spin combo that I found at a flea market. I actually lost the tip section, wrote to Wright and McGill in Denver, they sent me a new tip section for free. I paired it with a Martin 60 fly reel.

Do you use streamers Alvin?
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishingКүн бұрын
I throw a lot of streamers for bass, sometimes for trout, but not that often.

The only Wyoming bass lake I have heard of and been to is a little lake called Bass Lake or Lake Cameahwait (Sacajawea's brother?) near Riverton. Fish aren't big and can be windy. Lots of scuds.

What jet outboard motor size do you recommend???
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing3 күн бұрын
Depends on the boat. Since you lose 30% of the power vs a prop, usually the biggest one your hull can hold.
@thepanterdog993 күн бұрын
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing the 16 foot hog island skiff would you recommend 40 jet or 35 jet thanks
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing2 күн бұрын
@@thepanterdog99 I would go with the 40. A little bit more power than the 35 and not any lighter.
@thepanterdog992 күн бұрын
Thanks Alvin thinking of trading in my clackacraft and getting the skiff it’s way more versatile for lakes and rivers

DO NOT BUY! Even with course ground, the screen is waaaaay too fine causing the plunger to seal. You literally have to lean on it with all your body weight to get it to creep down.
@ballerforlife12344 күн бұрын
That’s a solid choice!

Alvin, First of all, you and your family have been in our prayers since I heard about the loss of your wife. We will continue to pray for you and the family. A question about the Orvis leader material you are using to build the leaders. I have been trying to find those spools with no luck. Do you know where I can find them? Thanks for all you do for us and for representing us in Central Texas!

Had a favorite bass pond with 5 and 6 lb largemouth but last summer was so hot and dry the pond became a puddle and killed most of the fish save a few bluegills. It's a bummer but there's still grapevine lake and a number of other ponds and creeks still putting out plenty of fish
