I started chillies very late. My plant has grown very leggy. What do I do.
@thompsonmorgan2 жыл бұрын
Honestly - its probably best to start again next summer unless you have facilities to grow them indoors over winter. Chillies need plenty of light and heat so its easiest to grow them in the summer.

I grew the Jalapeño M seeds, germinated fine, plants grew fine, fruited fairly well but very disappointed with the lack of kick. Packet shows it as a “4” on a scale of 0 to 10, more like a “0”, more like a standard bell pepper than a chilli. Complete waste of time growing them, going in the bin.

Can you plant a tulip magnolia in a large container?
@thompsonmorgan2 жыл бұрын
You could certainly plant one in a large container but it would prefer to be in the ground and as a result it may struggle after a few years. There are smaller species as the stellata group which are better suited to containers and these may have a better chance of flourishing in container conditions.

How do we store the excess chilli we harvest? 😆 can we freeze them?
@thompsonmorgan2 жыл бұрын
Chillies can be dried or made into oils and pastes. They also keep for 2-3 weeks after harvesting so theres no immediate rush to use them all!

What are the buds? Where the leaves split into 2?
@thompsonmorgan2 жыл бұрын
The buds are where new stems will develop - these will provide new growth after you have pruned your plant.

Informative but ground planting depends where you live and conditions at the time. I live by the sea in Cornwall and our climate allows us to plant anything much earlier. Our daffodils eg are usually out at Christmas to give some idea.

Plant them deeper than this.
@janetfletcher31073 жыл бұрын
I was sure I'd done this correctly but when my asparagus came up they seemed short and stunted. The ground is fertile and there is plenty of light and they were given the right amount of water? Me and my husband eat them for breakfast most mornings, and I wanted to be able to stop buying them from the shop
@thompsonmorgan3 жыл бұрын
Dont give up just yet. You may not have done anything wrong! It has been a very tricky spring for plant growth with consistently fluctuating temperatures, little rainfall and late frosts. Your plants may be simply be responding to the poor growing conditions this season and will probably come through as normal stems next year.

Hello, does the flower pot really have to be 40 liters? Isn't it too big? :(
@thompsonmorgan3 жыл бұрын
You could certainly use something smaller than that but remember that the more space the roots have, the bigger your potato crop will be!
@outsidersongs26823 жыл бұрын
Mine is herbaceous and year three. Planted correctly, humus rich soil, and grows back healthy each year. No flower buds as yet though.
@thompsonmorgan3 жыл бұрын
The variety, growing conditions and age of the rootstock can also have an influence. They will get there eventually, but if it is taking a while then you may prefer to try again with a fresh plant.

Could you let me know how many crowns I should plant for a four person family? Thought they need to be harvested at the right time, so too many could be a problem I am guessing.
@thompsonmorgan3 жыл бұрын
The shoots will come up sporadically so you can harvest them as and when they are ready. I would think that 12 plants would be plenty, but it does really depend on how much you like asparagus!
