This board with Gullwing Sidewinder 2 (3 shocks pads 3mm for not touching the ground) is so freaking fun.. love it ! Ultra flexible and carvy, more fun than Paris trucks, great with Rayne centerset 70mm or 4President 77A :D Tried with Hamboards trucks and feels nice too, great board for sliding with Landpaddle, with Waterborne it's nice too :)

Thanks, yeah no wedges. This board is actually what would be the factory setup from Loaded. I guess wedges are mostly used on very stiff boards and that the flex of this board actually does something similar by changing the angle of trucks through every turn depending on how hard you pump/flex the board. But I haven´t actually tried wedges. I´m just too happy with my setup right now to even bother. 🙂

I’m looking at nipples (bushings) and worried yellow will inhibit my turning; I’m only 130-135 lbs. Will purple or orange still work pretty well for pumping? Also can gullwing double kingpin trucks work ok for pumping or would single hanger trucks work better?
@freaksport
@freaksport 8 ай бұрын
With the bushings I would just start with the weight recommendation from orangatangwheels, which would be the orange ones in your case. And about the gullwing double kingpin trucks, I don´t have too much experience with them. In general I think these kind of trucks enable you to do much tighter turns and pump at much lower speeds. But also limit you to those lower speeds and probably don´t work well with flexing decks. In the end that´s personal preference.

So is the vanguard always a tall board because of the curvature of the deck? Mine sits over 5” off the ground - which seems very high to me. Not sure if I can lower it with shorter trucks or smaller wheels maybe? Otherwise love the deck.
@freaksport
@freaksport 8 ай бұрын
When you put your weight on the board you will lower it a bit already. And the rest of the height can be used to actively flex the board while pumping. When I really try hard I can actually make the middle of the deck touch the ground while riding. So the height of the board is what enables that great flex and why I absolutely love that board. So my advice would be not to lower the deck, but try to use and enjoy the full flex. And you will get used to the height. A good exercise is also to put the board on some soft grass and just bounce a bit on it to get a feeling for how much it can actually flex. Hope you enjoy the board as much as I do.

My first real unicycle!(first one was a cheap plastic one as a kid kzfaq.infoUgkx4e2fa6x27dF7shCelntq0ZIKt4N0jELI I never learned to ride)So, this is a true learner, and for a C note, exactly what was needed. After a few weeks, I'm able to easily ride up and down the street. The Good: Solid frame. Has absorbed numerous spills through learning and still solid. Look - great looks, after 6 weeks of bashing Weight - it's really all tire, but as I fall I can easily grab the seat so it doesn't slam the ground. Size - Very adjustable. I'm 6', 33" inseam. I put it mostly up, but could go a bit higher if I needed to. The Bad: Not sure if it's out of the norm, but seat got scraped up quickly. Pedals - they are a bit uncomfortable and I can't get the right feel on my feet. But, they are solid and haven't been damaged at all as I've seen in reviews on other cycle's.- To address one comment about the seat connection not straight. Huh? Seat is on a round pole, you just turn it and it's straight. Either of the bad I expected to replace once I improved. I'd recommend to anyone else in the learning phase.

This is a fantastic and extremely durable kzfaq.infoUgkx4e2fa6x27dF7shCelntq0ZIKt4N0jELI unicycle. This was my first unicycle and I have really thrashed this thing for the past eight months or so and it has stood up very well. The only thing that has broken are the plastic pedals, they take a beating as you learn to ride, but an upgrade to metal pedals is fairly inexpensive and pretty necessary for most any unicycle. I have since acquired a 36 inch Coker for commuting and having ridden that I realized that the saddle on this unicycle can be a bit uncomfortable after a few hours riding, but still it is a great unicycle to start out on.

Awesome video! I have a dervish sama and just learning how to get pumps out of it. I find that I get the best results with both feet way up in the front. I still have a long way to go as far as developing the skill and confidence to really bounce and lean into my turns. Question is, you speak of this “harmony” between the flex of the board and the bushings. I have the dervish sama (42”) in flex 1 and I weigh 200 pounds. What bushings would you recommend for this set up. It’s a drop through so maybe they should be different then the ones in your vanguard? I want to pump! Thanks.
@freaksport
@freaksport Жыл бұрын
Thanks! When you have both feet way up in front, you probably have your back leg in the middle of the board. That is where you have the most leverage to flex the board. Probably that´s the reason why it feels the best. With a flex 1 board and your weight I´d probably recommend rather hard bushings, but bushings are cheap and you could always experiment a bit. In the end you want to feel that the energy you put in the board is affecting the flex and the angle of the trucks equally. In the beginning and at lower speeds it´s easier to pump just with soft bushings and not really flexing the board. But riding faster and really flexing the board, that´s where the fun is and what those boards are made for. At least in my humble opinion.

@freaksport
@freaksport Жыл бұрын
Generally the trucks are completely standard Paris V2 180mm 50°. No wedges or anything. But the bushings are the hard yellow nipples and I also tighten them quite a bit and will often bring my skate tool to adjust while riding. For me the flex of the board and the bushings must be in "harmony".

@@saksirikridakara they both face outwards, so it is a symmetrical setup which you could ride both ways. Yet I still only ride it in one direction normally as I will have slightly different tension on the bushings.

Thanks man, actually Orangatang doesn´t give an exact durometer for their bushings. But the yellow ones I use are the hardest they offer. And I probably even over tighten them a bit. I´m also around 100kg so there isn´t that much choice. My philosophy is that the bushings need to be in harmony with the flex of the board so the power you put in the board get´s evenly distributed between trucks and board flex. I also got some links to the gear I use in the description. Cheers Man.

Original bushings feels hard and not easy to pump at low speed, next time test with Nipple 83A hopes better (75KG) (What is the best Nipple or Knuckles ?) Want to test it with my Hamboards trucks + landpaddle stick for maximum carving and sliding, test with my Bhangra and feels good so with Vanguard i think even better but impossible to dance on it.. :(

Hi ! I've got the same setup : but standard bushings. 1. Do you think that orangatang nipples (yellow?) would help 2. What is your technique : do you balance the board outside while keeping your body quite immobile ? (and the board follows the weight of your body?) Thanks !
@nyhyl
@nyhyl 9 ай бұрын
I cannot speak for him individually but you pump by rotating your hip into the carve. You start the turning momentum in your upper body and then use this momentum to turn your hip into the same turning direction. Imagine you are sitting on a office chair (or even better you do right now), then lift your feet from the ground and now try to turn in one direction. To do so you most likely will swing your arms in the direction you want to turn and then try to use that momentum to forcefully turn your hip in the same direction to eventually make the chair turn. That is what you do when you're pumping. You pull your hip and legs it into each carve. This is not much, but once you reach a certain speed this little accelerations will add up and keep your rolling. I hope this could help.
