Have you tried to recreate that in wood? For a wooden recliner!

Power side mirrors are a luxury! Many Echo/Platz come with manual adjustment side mirrors. Good for you that the fix was so simple.

I visited this location about 25 years ago on a trip to Sri Lanka, the guide at that time was a man who said he had been in the film as a young boy, in the scene where William Holden, after escaping the camp, staggers out of the jungle, delirious and almost dead with exhaustion ,and he thinks he is being attacked by vultures when in fact it is village children flying a kite shaped like a bird that swoops down on him, anyway our guide was one of the children in the movie and he must be related to the lady in this clip as he made a living giving tours and lived by the side of the river. He had a small coracle boat and he rowed myself and my partner over to the opposite river bank, I remember the large round holes drilled in the rocks to anchor the main wooden pylons of the bridge that was built for the movie. I have to say it was quite a magical experience being in the actual location, and all those very big flying Bats that are in the movie are still there!!

This was the lady we met years ago, in sri Lanka while actually looking for the bridge location. Her house was just close by . She makes a little bit of her living from helping tourists. I remember walking across the bridge shown in the video and seeing rafters on the river .A beautiful location. Good video.

I have seen original bridge in Kanchanaburi, Thailand and after seeing this video my interest is growing to see the shooting location also. Nice video Sir! What happened to the bombed out wooden bridge? Any residue still exists? If we turn up from Colombo by taxi, an we have any hotel nearby there?

Thank for your comments. Kitulgala rest house could be a one of the places that you can stay closer to this location. You can see many related photographs too in this hotel.. You can hire Uber or Pickme taxi on a reasonable taxifare. Only one iron hook and few holes on the rock are remaining. It is a 200 meeter walk to the film location. You will meet this lady' house as soon as you entered the Path to film location. She will make guided tour to the location.

No residues except an iron bolt and few foundation holes on the rock. They are shown in this short video.

I even did not know this is Taprobane Island. Now only I know the name of this island. My camera caught only the beauty of the view while sitting on a bench closer to this sea. Sorry I had no intention to attract tourists.
