Is the Moutain Leader (Summer) award a requirement for leading Gold award DofE expeditions?
@alanpashley89273 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your query. The Mountain Training - Mountain Leaders qualification provides a good opportunity to develop many of the skills required for the DofE supervising role. All DofE expeditions, including practice expeditions, must be supervised by a suitably experienced adult who is competent in the chosen mode of travel and who will be based in the area where the expedition takes place. Supervisors accept responsibility for the safety and welfare of the team on behalf of the Licensed Organisation or Approved Activity Provider. Additionally, Supervisors should be familiar with the team, their individual strengths and weaknesses and their knowledge of the chosen route. An understanding of the aims, principles and requirements of the Expedition section is also essential. Each Licensed Organisation/Approved Activity Provider has the responsibility for ensuring that those who supervise expeditions are appropriately trained and qualified. Each Licensed Organisation/AAP will have their own requirements for the approval of Supervisors.

Really enjoyed this. I would definitely find a CPD module for coaching lead climbing with processes and standardised pedagogy really useful. I sometimes find myself in situations where the participants are a bit pushy with their progression and having a concrete process that the participants can be talked through in order to understand their current ability and why I may want to slow things down would be very helpful. I agree with the shared mentality as active practitioners but using your own experience of your personal climbing journey to form that mentality could provide quite a narrow idea of what is right for other people.

What sort of career doors can the Mountain Leader qualification open up for a person?

The Mountain Leader award allows you to gain work as a freelance Mountain Leader for a range of outdoor companies or centres in the UK, and is a required qualification before you can progress to higher mountaineering awards, such as the International Mountain Leader Award, the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor qualification, and the Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor qualification. The work could involve, for example, leading groups in the UK mountains in summer conditions, teaching navigation skills or instructing & supervising Duke of Edinburgh Award candidates.

Why such a low budget production? Lovely smiling faces but it looks like it was filmed on a phone? What is the film for? It doesn't tell me anything.
@mtntraining8 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, the film is designed to inspire young females to get out and enjoy the mountains. The girls are on a Mountain Skills course which is available to anyone aged 14 and over. The quality of the filming and production is very good. It was not filmed on a phone.
@richarddavies71228 жыл бұрын
I am not a young female so can't comment about whether it inspires them. It just looks cheap and tacky to me which is a shame as the mountains on Great Britain are so beautiful and your film doesn't show that. The film doesn't tell me anything about the course either so its not inspirational or informative as far as I'm concerned. It looks like someone paid a friend to pop along with a phone and film it whilst they were passing. Great idea for courses though - hope people still book.
