We typically include screws and mounting hardware with our products, but periodically we decided not to, simply because we can't reasonably guess what length of screw or fastener most users will need. There's so many different kayaks and canoes on the market these days, with hulls made with different thicknesses, and materials, etc., etc. Rather than be wasteful and include a screw that will only work for a small percent of purchases, we sometimes leave it up to our customers to determine which screw length will work best for their particular boat.

Do you fish salmon?

@@mikereams1851 yes, that is primarily what I fish for. I understand the concept, this does very little to help you target salmon. There are better sonar/gps systems to upgrade to that would help an angler better. This is a product someone will buy and us twice and then forget about.

There's a variety of different methods to install our downriggers. Which method works best for you will depend on what kind of boat you have, and how you prefer to use, and store your downriggers. There are gimbal mounts, which slide into gimbal rod mounts integrated in some boat gunnels. There's rail mounts, for boats with rails. Right angle mounts, for boats with narrow or uneven gunnels. Pedestal mounts for boats with boats with wider gunnels. Hello, and thank you for your comment! We think you've raised a good point here, and we've begun a discussion at our manufacturing plant to see if we can improve the instructions and make the process a little clearer. Hopefully we can find a way to make things a bit easier. Generally speaking, would you rather be given written instructions and/or illustrations that detail exactly what to do, or would you rather find a QR code linked to a video demonstrating the process?

Awesome that you're addressing feedback like this For most, I think a wiring diagram and instructions for disassembly of the plug would suffice. I like the idea of a QR code to a KZfaq video to supplement the instructions in the package. But, you need some kind of written instructions. If a guy needs to change his plug in Nootka or Bella Bella a QR code isn't helpful.

We're not exactly sure which part of the video you're referring to, but generally speaking, the R-5 pairs best with rods and reels set-up to run 15lb test line, or less. The R-5 is best suited to anglers who fish for small to medium-sized fish, like trout, walleye, perch, smallmouth bass, and some pike and catfish, etc. For going after larger species, like salmon, we'd recommend our Powerlock, or Orca rod-holders. There isn't a quick release function built into the anchor lock, however, the locking mechanism works on tension/friction, so getting the line to unlock is usually just as easy as reaching over and pulling up on the line to remove the tension. In all but the most extreme circumstances, that should do the trick.

There's no one right answer this question, unfortunately. Some people like to keep a short distance on the leader (10 feet or less), as it effectively makes the release clip more sensitive. Other anglers like to leave a long leader. as they believe they'll get fewer strikes if the weight is close enough to the bait that fish can see it. It's up to individual angler, and can depend on all kinds reasons; wind, water temperature, clarity, species of fish, etc. The short answer is-- experiment, and find what works best for you. There's no hard and fast rule.

Yes, we use this rod holder when fishing for trout, either trolling or bait fishing. It works great! The spinning reel rotates on its side, either left or right. We used the locking collar when trolling, to prevent losing the rod during a violent takedown. We love the complete adjustability of these units, left, and right, up and down.
