How does the Metro Sling V2 go against Bellroy Lite Sling Mini? Can you pack the same volume? Which do you prefer?
@PackingLess3 күн бұрын
The metro sling 2 is only 2.5L capacity whereas the Bellroy lite sling mini is 4L, so definitely can fit more in the bellroy (including my mirrorless camera with certain lenses)

I prefer designs of bags like Tom Bihn that don’t have the key leash sewn inside. I like it when they put in o rings and let you choose the best place for your keys.

I appreciate the reviews and Alpaka’s products. I do find it really confusing with their very diverse range of minor variations of a handful of primary designs
This is an awesome bag. Amazing price for it’s practically. It’s one of the few backpacks that you can easily access your valuable by simply swinging the bag to the front and opening the side zipper. I cannot find any other backpack that does this.

I have another 30L bag from Tom Bihn called the Techonaut 30 which has features similar to the Synic 30. It has the same shoulder straps as the Synic 30 which to me are among the most comfortable I've experienced on any bag. The Techonaut and Synic both have their pros and cons, but a big advantage of the Techonaut for me is the relatively light weight. I got it in the Halcyon fabric and the total weight is 980 grams. The Techonaut has fewer pockets than the Synic and a little less organization and I am perfectly fine with that. However, it does sport a very comfortable side grab handle and a laptop compartment with easier access. I've used this bag extensively for 3 years of travel and there are no obvious signs of wear. Everything is premium on these bags including unfortunately the price.
@PackingLess8 күн бұрын
Thanks for that, its great to hear youre enjoying it. I actually was torn between the Techonaut 30 and this one, the reason I leant to the Synik is because I felt it could double as a kind of edc everyday bag when not using for travel. But I guess the Techonaut also could really haha

@PackingLess10 күн бұрын
If you wanted a really good workbag / edc bag for laptop and everyday use I think its worth it. Its really well made and always stands up on its own and has a nice arrangement of pockets for things. Out of all my bags I often grab that one for everyday errands because its comfortable and not too big and always has enough space for a day of use. I wouldnt use it as a travel bag though because its fairly heavy while empty for its size (which is why its better for short day use) and there are lighter/bigger bags that do travel better. Not that you couldnt use it for travel but it wouldnt be my first choice. It definitely does edc, daily / work bag best though and I think thats where its value shines

Not often you see Tom Bihn bags in Australia, but they do sometimes pop up for sale second hand. I got a Synik 22 for around $400 and never looked back. I’m keen to try a 30L but I have a small frame so I don’t think it would fit as well.

For your packing demo i would like to see both bags packed out. I do not own either a tom bihn bag or an able carry bag so that would be very helpful to me. It is well made, it has no admin pocket, the inside material is white so I'll be careful about stains, has air vents for the back and i like the hard plastic support at the back. It is pretty well made.

I have to say, I'm a big fan of Cordura. If they could do a Ripstop body with a Cordura bottom, I would buy it in a minute. The great advantage of Cordura is it's wear resistance. For the bottom of the pack that really useful.

Nice fabric, stylish sleeves but that hood though is a complete fail IMHO. It's a poor design that's just uncomfortable and weird looking. Western Rise would have been better off using the same pattern as the Airloft which as a great hood. I have no idea what they were going for with this hood design. It looks like wearing a nappy on your head or one of those thin zip-away hoods that go back into the collar. While the pocket in the back is nice for stashing stuff, the whole bag idea is unnecessary given that the target community, I'd wager, would already carry a sling. Also, you feel it as you walk around.
@PackingLessАй бұрын
Very good points, a zip off hood and maybe making it overall lighter so it could stash into a pocket rather than a bag would be good

Im torn between zip pouch pro and zip cardholder. What i like about the zip cardholder is the bigger dimension in the back external slot. Question is, can it fit a chunky edc gear on it like leatherman skeletool or swiss army? Cuz based on the alpaka description of the zip carholder the back external slot can fit 2 cards only (max). Can you help me out guys. Thank you

I think it might fit that but you might loose a little internal capacity as the tool would bulge into the main part
