When I was a child, my brother John told me to listen to Clannad. He gave me a CD, and told me that we are Mohegan. He said we had someone in our ancient family line who was Indian. I did not belive him. But I listened to the CD anyway, and was instantly haunted by one song. "I Will Find You," felt to me like I was being spoken to by someone I haven't seen in a thousand years. I listened to that CD thousands of times. Now, most of my family are deceased, and the few remaining are estranged. I recently started an epic fact finding journey to uncover my ancestral history. This is a rabbit hole that seems to never end. I had my DNA tested and I started searching for information about my dad's family. I know my Grandpa and his dad's names. So that was enough for me to make links to everyone. I, almost instantly, followed my paternal line back to the Pequot War in Connecticut. But then the trail went cold prior to that. No one knows for sure who the parents were of Richard Edgerton, one of the proprietors of Norwich, CT, and the progenitor of our family clan. This started me on a colossal journey. I started devouring everything I could possibly learn about Elizabethan England and pre-colonial America. The more I learned, the more ancestors I was able to identify. I've proven my lineage to William Bradford, the first Governor of Massachusetts, and Mayflower Pilgrim. Myles Standish, who Bradford hired as a militia leader. Thomas Pease who was in Boston in 1630 and on Long Island in 1640s, and became a progenitor of a line of several Reverands. And almost every Edgerton man, from Richard to present day, have served for American Armed forces. It would be remiss to just assume that I don't have a Mohegan ancestor. At the very least, I know my ninth direct paternal great grandfather stood beside Uncas. And now I'm starting to find more ancestors who stood beside other natives as far back as 1602. If it takes a thousand years, I want to go to Connecticut, where it all began. Meanwhile, I'm going to keep researching, and maybe this is the beginning of that book that everyone has been telling me to write.

I miss this. I went through a phase where I was listening to Celtic music regularly (Clannad, Enya, Capercaillie). This is music with a purpose. The money doesn't matter.

Irish culture and music is amazing it is wonderful that is has had a total resurgence. It would have been a grave loss, it it had not. I hope all future generations will build on it and carry it forward.
