Yeah, I'm not sold on this. Pain can be so bad it makes you pass out. You don't need to worry about future pain in order to find current pain unbearable.

There's a large amount of truth in this, and also a seriously deep level of missing the point. Ultimately, I would say, it's untrue, and symptomatic of how western minds have over-rationalised 'eastern' ideas and practices, simultaneously fitting them to their utilitarian goal of us all just shutting up and not complaining. There is such a thing as directly felt pain, and you may be 'bearing' it and able to keep doing so, but it's a hard-wired reality to also 'suffer' on account of it, because that's the very reaction that makes you pay attention to problems and attempt to fix them; like you really should get that nail out of your knee very quickly and stop the bleeding and cleanse the wound, etc., etc. The same with things in your social reality that threaten you or relationships too; they need attention and attempts at fixing, and will remain until either that happens or you really have no hope and grieve it out of yourself. You may develop techniques for avoiding that feeling and context, and that can be helpful in shifting the context to something more real, or more fixable, or both, but if you feel you've totally come to be able to totally not suffer, that's not true, the pain still lies there, maybe unconscious, but still having a serious effect. It'll come back to you in the end, and probably while you sit there 'feeling at peace', it's eating at you somewhere inside. Even if thought was the root cause, just shifting those thoughts will not eradicate it. And that we decide to think in response to pain is not the root cause, but that we have to think in response to circumstances, and cannot do otherwise. In fact we could take it deeper and say that it's not really thought but perception. Only proper attention to it and properly resolving it, via a true understanding of how you fully feel about it and really don't want it, will even change it. Maybe a shift of thoughts can alter something, but not the actual underlying perception that caused the pain, and not the inevitability of a response to it of some kind or another which will 'cause' suffering. Meditation does not and cannot erase suffering.

The thing about Sam is that he tends to cover all people with these universal benefits of mindfulness meditation, and there's nothing for neurodiverse persons, whose brain structures can vary so much that these universal ideals don't always apply universally.

He hasn't unlocked the secret to life. He's given a hint of the direction to look. We're all Lego. Biological Lego. Our nervous and sensory systems have fooled us into believing we have an enduring self. But just like when my grandson makes an aeroplane out of Lego, there is nothing that has any inherent enduring aeroplaneness within it and as soon as he is bored he will break it down and it will return to being Lego pieces. Clinging onto this enduring ego/self and knowing it is going to die causes suffering. Transcending and letting go of that illusion is what I suspect Buddhists refer to re. enlightenment and the end of reincarnation.

This is convenient for those in power. If suffering is incumbent on the sufferer and not those perpetrating wrongs in the world for their own gain then they can go on doing what ever they want. its a means of justification for various peoples position in society.

I often refute what JP says I find that he talks too much to say nothing, but he made a solid point regarding Sam's example "I should go get some water" it seems logical to me that the brain's connections communicate through internal monologue And this could explain the origin of our thoughts.

Talking to one's self is a selected trait that lends well to one's sanity and tribal inclusion. The brain doesn't need to 'talk' to itself.

Sam’s clarity of thought is astounding. He has such a firm grasp of his idea and how to explain it. Just wish it wasn’t cut off, as he was about to explain the second method of instead of just having more positive internal conversations, seeing internal conversations as just objects to be witnessed and not to identify with.
