1:33:45 (or somewhere around that mark) According to Ovid's metamorphoses, it wasn't Zeus revealing his true form, but rather that Semele asked Zeus to "(make) love (to) her like he did (to) Hera" and her mortal body could quite literally just not handle it. I'm not entirely sure if the words in parentheses are or are not what's intended as I did not translate them into English but this is the version of the story that my Latin course had us translate. Also, the reason he couldn't just, you know, not do that, was because he had just said "I swear on the styx, I will give you whatever you ask of me". Hera was actually behind this one because she'd told Semele that it would be really cool, knowing full well that she could not in fact survive that. And I'm going to be honest, I just kinda prefer this version. Zeus revealing his true form so she gets omega blasted feels a little anti-climactic (get it)

Coming back to this, I have a new theory: The Hermes dialogue around 2:09:00 about a “skinny chap” he brought down to the underworld who died by spear makes me think it could’ve also been another kind of jesting character: Skelly, or Schelemeus. While we know he’s not Odysseus now, because we actively work with his shade in Hades II, we still don’t know for sure if his seafarer story is totally legit. What _I_ think would be hilarious, but maybe a touch tragic, would be for Schelemeus to have died at sea in a mutiny instead of in a storm. His body couldn’t be properly burned, hence his form in the Underworld; clearly he had rank and thus was still given a burial at sea (hence the obol in his mouth) and Hermes had to collect him. Clearly he couldn’t have not received any burial (again, he has a coin for ferryman payment), but it wasn’t a proper burning since he isn’t like a normal shade. Schelemeus is not the most enthralling or great leader, from his demeanour, but he is a crafty joker like the best of them. Would make sense that somebody got tired of his crap, injured him, and he goaded them to keep trying until he died. In death, he could keep doing this.

Yeah, the idea that this could be the most influential depiction of Eurydice in recent years is *probably* wrong, given that Hadestown is still on broadway.

just wanted to say, in case anyone was wondering about the FFV video - it is being made, and i am working on it whenever i can, but i have been really unwell the last year and haven't had as much of a chance to work on videos as i would've liked. if you want more specifics/details on what's been up, head to the community section of my channel and scroll down a few entries until you get to the '2023 end of year update'. but yeah, i am working on it when i am able! i promise it'll be out as soon as it can be. i am looking forward to it :) thanks for your patience friends. - alastair

Hi Ludiscere. First off, thank you for making this incredible video. FFIV is my favorite game of all time, and I've played it countless times since I first played it on the SNES when I was a kid. You've given a new breath of life to this game for me, and now I want to buy a DS and experience the DS version. (I have played the PC version, but your recommendation holds value.) Kain Highwind is my favorite character of all time as well (hence the username, lol.) And after watching this video, I wonder if the game ends with Kain Highwind on top of Mt. Ordeals as a symbolic representation of us, the player. In a way, to say, we all have _some_ darkness in us, and we should seek a way to always strive to become a better version of ourselves. Anyway, thanks again for your incredible dedication and time commitment to make this video.

That opening view coming out of the cave sure is lovely, but it's not nearly as impressive as coming out of the cave at the beginning of Breath of the Wild. That was even more breathtaking.

I this video is a bit old, but have you seen Dahlia's concept art? It's shockingly a lot tamer, it always made me wonder that the weird oversexualized humanoid bunny design used was chosen on purpose.

Thanatos is commonly drawn with a scythe. I know of games and books that do that. I think it just comes from him being god of death and grim reaper so they give him a scythe

The irony is the fact that Pasiphae was also the sister to Circe and grand daughter to Helios and in some myths was also regarded as a goddess/sorceress and the “bull” was actually Poseidon

As a 4'10 girl I relate to Hinata and Nishinoya so much. The scene where they get mistaken for middle schoolers made me laugh so hard because that has happened to me before. One waitress thought I was 12 when I was actually 18. 😅😭 It can also be pretty intimidating being a shorty and wanting to do sports especially when it's one where being tall gives you an advantage. These two idiots are such an inspiration for me and I love them. 🥰

No Adonis in Hades. But the tale of Adonis doesn't paint the Goddesses Aphrodite and Persephone in a good light. Adonis was their sex slave. Though he was kidnapped/found by Aphrodite she wanted to have sex with him as a baby, given to Persephone to hide him in the underworld and be raised. Persephone fell in lust with him whilst raising him. Adonis was passed back and forth between the 2 Goddesses as per Zeus' judgement to mediate the situation. A term of the agreement was Aphrodite was not allowed to wear her girdle around Adonis. Aphrodite cheated and wore the girdle to coerce Adonis to stay with her. The Goddesses were jus as thirsty as the Gods in some cases

the new movie has me watching all these okd videos but truly the way you frame disability here and explaining how it relates to haikyuu is just wonderful. I do that a lot where my personal experiences inform my readings of media texts but I have never come across one that talks about disability, and it is truly wonderful. It makes me relate to Haikyuu more than I have before. I love this video a lot!

Furies were always described with WINGS, but I can't recall single time in the mythos when they weren't working all three together, so technically them having one wing each isn't impossible, i guess?

33,000 likes, you have earned it man. Especially since you were willing to admit you might have been wrong regarding Nia. I personally do not believe the developers meant for Nia too be sexualized, but I could be wrong. I do think her blade form is cute but not excessive. Regardless, your video is amazing.

You know hades is relatively a new god That Persephone is the ancient god and was often married to Dionysus who come from Ancient Greece Also choas cannot truly have any knowledge on anything He cannot even be sure that he started or is ending So no true confirmation of anything There is nothing else but how would he know that ? Dionysus is an ancient god who ruled the underworld with Persephone He wasn't the god of debauchery or drunkenness at all It was the cult of Dionysus that gave him that rep but more the god of madness and especially of the sea The cult linked to them by him being the god of madness and being drunk is the only related to madness But actually hades may have been made up more recently

Seeing this video for the first time in mid 2024, and the bit with chaos being the product of a phoenix-like reproductive cycle of other worlds seems more likely, as in the second game his trinket is an embryo instead of just an egg.

This is EXACTLY the kind of analysis video that I wanted to find and watch right after finishing my first playthrough of FF4. So much rich detail and analysis of pretty much everything I wanted to be talked about and then some. Truly marvelous work! Was definitely worth watching the full length of it. I look forward to more Final Fantasy videos from you in the future.

Funny Thing I didn't know till now. "The Sword in the Stone" was in Germany called: "Die Hexe und der Zauberer" (The Witch and the Sorcerer) so somehow here in germany was Merlin the focus in the Title , and in england the focus excalibur. I still wonder why it wasn't called Arthur, after the Main Charakter.

I think a lack of resources is interesting in the context of class differences in Haikyuu as well. Karasuno and Nekoma's matches weren't called 'battle of the garbage dumps' just because their themed animals were a crow and cat (though that too can be a class thing, especially compared to Shiratorizawa's eagle mascot), but because they're both public schools who don't have the resources and money the private schools do. Karasuno wouldn't have improved as well and fast if they hadn't been invited to the training camps hosted by other schools, who again had the funds to hold a long training camp for multiple clubs. Karasuno meanwhile had such trouble with funds their club advisor was willing to dip into his own savings just to get them a bus to said training camp. Overall a very interesting video and perspective on the series, so glad it popped up in my recommendations.

I think you basically said it in the beginning. Using team sports is a gimmicky(my word) way to write because it gives an easy format to introduce a broad range of character development and often comes off a corny because while these narratives aren't being shoehorned you get the inkling that if they had to write some of these narratives they couldn't do it without the framework of team sports.
