I'm 16 and been running a bricklink store for about a year, and if it stays consistant with the sell through rate I shoud be easily able to live off it by the time I graduate and have a store worth about $150,000! Also, 11:40 you gotta look at US listing prices, I sold a polybag in that series sealed, price guide said $14, cheapest in the us was like $18, i put it for $17.50 and it sold in like a day! After looking into the sand trooper, you can sell him for more as just the fig. also the cheapes listing for the figure in the US (After your's) is $39.99, so I would definatly put the price more like $37.50.

my two pieces of advice when it comes to bricklink storage 1. mixing parts in drawers is fine but make sure they are different colours, trust me its significantly easier to find a black 1x1 in a sea of different colour 1x1s than in a sea of other black pieces. 2. when youre picking orders and you see drawers that have space thanks to the order mark them with a stickynote or something to indicate that the have space.

I’m so happy you now have Stripe on bricklink! At the moment I can’t spend money as I need to save after I bought a big lot (25-40 lbs estimated, saw the stagecoach from LR and the Sydney opera house), but I will once I can! Also, what type of drawers are those white ones that have the dividers?

Those drawers with the red bricks you use when you need to complete a set - are those just your own collection, not part of BL? Are those used parts? Do you keep new and used parts in separate drawers when inventorying BL stuff? Eg: if you part out a set that's obviously new, but it has pieces you have used, you don't put the new pieces in with the used, right? And I assume your used minifigs and new minifigs have different homes too? Apologizes for the many questions!
@TravisMarsala10 сағат бұрын
Most of what is in the BL store is new and kept separate from the used stuff! The stuff in the white cups are for personal use / repairing sets - and yup! used and new minifigs live in different tubs. And no apologies needed!
@thebrickhiker10 сағат бұрын
@@TravisMarsala Thanks, Travis! Appreciate you taking the time out to answer that. Online selling is not new to me, but BL is, and while I still am unsure I will take it to the level that I kinda want to, this info is very helpful! Oh! And something for you, that you may already know - if shipping CDs/DVDs - the recent July Media Mail price hike was the biggest yet, I believe. And in many cases it is now cheaper to ship CDs/DVDs Ground Advantage. I always input the package dimensions [I only ship stuff in boxes, though if I get into BL like I am with eBay and Amazon, I guess I will need to see if padded envelopes are enough]. Anyway, even from NC to MA, a CD in a 6x6x2 ULINE box is cheaper for me to ship GA than MM! Like I said, you probably already know this, but if not, hey, it saves a bit of money. :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for setting up Stripe. As a PayPal user since 1999 [back when it was X and only available on Palm Pilots], I had suddenly got banned by them in March 2020 - like tons of other people who get kicked off by the algorithm - there is no appeal process. And no way to make a new account unless I changed my SS/EIN, name, address, bank account info, etc. As a biz owner account with them with no chargebacks and never any illegal purchases, there was nothing in the TOS that I violated [and I had the account well after I turned 18]. But no way to appeal. It put my eBay Store out of biz for a year and half while they migrated to eBay Payments, and curtailed 99% of my BrickLink purchasing, as I can search for parts from stores that offer Stripe, but that's maybe 5% of the stores, so it's made shopping there quite hard [and doing web development for others using WooCommerce and having to have PayPal dev accounts that are not linked to my existence, etc]. So...thank you thank you thank you for accepting Stripe. I'll be bookmarking your store and hopefully buying from there soon. :) [as well as making my BL store public as I slowly, *slowly* populate it]

Love your videos, Travis. Wise words for young folks. Some advice for you regarding inventory management, especially Lego, is to organize them by part type and not by color. Saw you sorting through the drawer of all black pieces. It makes it so hard to find pieces, as you discovered here. Haha

As someone also nearing 40, 1000% I wish I had learned entrepreneurship in general at a young age. Growing up in the Midwest, my parents weren’t really about talking about money and business. I also always had a self starter mentality which helped me get started during and after college, but would have been awesome to get that jumpstart earlier in life on how to do the hustle. I’m a firm believer that they should require some sort of course on entrepreneurship/value of money/business-y type real world stuff etc in high school to prepare young people on how the world works before they step into it. It’s applicable to every facet of life no matter what career you pursue.

So, just turned 37, and absolutely if I had known at 17 that I could be taking all the toys and collectibles I didn’t want or need and turning them into cash, I would have been so much happier when college (culinary school) ultimately let me down. Now, I did go back to school 3 years later for a one-year small business course, and that definitely helped me understand more about some of what it takes to survive running my own business. All that said, I am definitely going to impress upon my daughter the idea of finding that self-sufficiency early in life. She already talks about taking over the Bricklink store later in life, but it doesn’t even have to be that, of course. It took me too long to find that what I love is to stick to the toys and fun of my youth but make it business. She’ll know how to explore so many more options than just college/university.

I’ve started selling lego on bricklink almost a year now and it’s been a fun process. I always love getting big lots of figs or sets then putting some up online. It also gives a nice cash inflow which will be useful as I go to college in a few years.

As someone who's 15 and my bricklink store is coming on 1 year since i opened it i can 100% vouch for what travis said. Ive learnt so much about all the things you mentioned time management, money management, how to deal with customers, where to find good deals etc. It started as something i just did to fund my lego hobby and because i thought it would be fun. I just started with a few figs that i had lying around from my childhood that i didnt want anymore and from there bought some lots online and from other friends my age that had grown out of lego and just snowballed from there, its not very difficult take your time to watch a few tutorials before you jump straight in and just try to have some fun. I was lucky that ny parents were super supportive and helpful when i needed to set up some of the stuff that needed IDs and when it came to buying shipping supplies. Main point is just jump in start small get the ball rolling, if you are into lego figs are a great place to start as they sell quickly and are easy to list. Make sure to enjoy the journey dont get too frustrated, if you make a mistake on someones order people are usually forgiving and you can always just refund them

Everything you said about doing reselling before college is 100% true. As someone who's going to college in a few weeks and has been doing reselling for a bit, the amount I've learned has been invaluable. I'm now going to business school with actual experience running a business - a huge boost for me. I hope to continue during college, but the space and time requirements may not allow me to. Seeing your business has been a huge inspiration to me, and your advice has encouraged me to branch out from just LEGO. So thanks! -tully

Awesome work mate. Nice to see some organisation coming together. The numbers are looking fine considering you've been through a lot of changes recently. Maybe you could divide your storage into 4 types. Small parts, medium parts, large parts and overflow? So the small drawers for smalls. Medium tubs for medium and large tubs for large. Then overflow could be larger bins with bagged parts to separate them or a dedicated overflow by colour system? Can't wait to see more progress 😅

Honestly I’m having no the exact opposite problem lol. I’ve had actually some of my best sales this month, but I have a lack of new inventory, or any stocked up. Question: do you think eBay is the best platform to sell on? Because I go between Mercari and eBay, and I don’t know if I’m making the right decision (I use eBay for auctions and Mercari for BIN mostly)
@TravisMarsala2 күн бұрын
I haven't messed around much with Mercari, and I'm not sure how I feel about their new fee structure. I think eBay is still the bigger platform (would have to look up data on that). I mean... if you get sales, you get sales, right? Part of me is just too lazy, for lack of a better word, to want to learn and manage a third platform, although WhatNot has been looking more and more attractive.
