Al Jarine helped to creat one of the most beautiful musical utterances of the last 65 years. I have a hard time not breaking down in tears every time I hear the vocals come on the Beach Boys version.

I dont get the chords hes playing in the first 2 lines, shouldn't it supposed to be played from C# to G#7 ? but hes moving to 2nd and 4th fret wat looks like an F# somehow? I've witnessed this in a lot of their live material videos.??

Al goofing up the lyrics at 3:42. Love these honest little mistakes musicians make. And his smirk cause he knew 😏 A couple years ago I saw Paul McCartney in Seattle, as he was singing here today the song he wrote about John after he passed away he messed up the lyrics and stopped the whole song lol it’s a true story. You could look it up just search Paul McCartney here today in Seattle.

In 1976 my music teacher Mr Roland played this song on the piano and turned me on to the Beach Boys. They were and always have been one of my favourite groups. Even through the punk era that I was totally involved and immersed in.

I was a super big fan of Beach Boys. I wasn't even much of a Beatles fan as I was so loyal to "My" Beach Boys as I called them. Never met 1 but saw them twice in concert. 2nd concert Brian no longer touring & was Bruce Terry (if my name recall is correct). It wasn't until some years later that I really started to appreciate how great Al Jardine & what he contributed.

Al sounds like the 1960’s but the reason this sounds so good is his son Matt singing backup vocals !! He’s freaking awesome !! Great voice Matt everything you have sang on is perfect !!

Absolutely love this song, Al, like part two of Sloop John B. Fantastic work! Sloop John B is my favourite song by the Beach Boys. Sloop John B - A pirate's Tale comes in second.

I’ve always liked Alans version of his lead vocals on the 1973 live album. I wish he would revamp that and start performing this song again.
