love your vids. I'm 34 and just starting to get ollies. How high off the ground is that low manny pad? I built myself a 7" high box that's a replica of the Keen Ramps Slap Pad, still get hung up on my back truck trying to get ontop of it.
@OldBrokenSkater
@OldBrokenSkater 15 күн бұрын
Thanks a lot! The many pad is just a little over 3.5" (8.89cm) off the ground. Literally I bought some 2x4s 8ft long made a rectangle frame and slapped a sheet of plywood on. Love how low it is as it helps build confidence for doing things on bigger ledges/pads.
@t3r083
@t3r083 15 күн бұрын
@@OldBrokenSkater that's awesome, I might have to do that myself, as the 7" takes a lot more effort to get onto. This video inspired me, I jumped up, went to the garage and started ollie'ing over a 3.5" tall piece of scrap plywood. It's nice to get rid of the possible hangup for a bit, since the plywood just falls over if I bonk it.
@OldBrokenSkater
@OldBrokenSkater 15 күн бұрын
Sweet deal! Honestly I'm at a point where its much easier to learn things either at a slower speed or with lower obstacles. I slapped a piece of angle iron on the manny pad also, so I could learn stalls, grinds, and anything else. I started my 50-50s, noseslide, and crooked grinds all on it before moving to the bigger box I have. It really just helps in figuring out the trick and what comes along with it but also helps immensely in the confidence department. Glad you got some inspiration! Good luck hope to talk soon!

Youre doing the grind perfectly. The reason your board is flipping out from under you is because your nudging out with your front toes. To get out of the crooked grind nudge out with your heel insead. If you nudge with your heel it will prevent the board from flipping

It's been pretty good so far doing it this way. I try to "build myself up" to stepping a little out of my comfort zone in my sessions with something new or something that was just uncomfortable back in the day. It's funny-the nosegrind in this video eventually paved the way to learning crooked grinds, which I never could do before. The only time this approach bites me is when I become obsessed with flip tricks. I spent literally 1.5-2 weeks trying frontside, backside flips, and tre flips, and I'm sure I got somewhere, but it was so defeating and counterintuitive to the point where I just gave up (for now).
