Mrs. NetrebKo please take note on how it is supposed for a REAL Turandot to sound and sing that aria.

Pero perdona,señoria! Este papel estaba escrito para mezzosoprano. Donde esta mezzo? Engaño!😢
@nickbigd19 күн бұрын
Incorrect (notwithstanding that it has been sung by some great mezzos like Von Stade). The part was written for soprano, not mezzo, and was originally performed at its premiere by Isabella Colbran, who by all accounts was a soprano, not a mezzo.

The last great coloratura in my opinion. Superb apart from a slightly weak trill.

I was there, 2nd raw in Loggione, seated on the seat back to see the stage, with recording device in hand, like so many people. We were so excited about the cast. After the performance, HUGE crowd to see the artists

Bernstein was a performer, but a performer with an enviable IQ. He spoke many languages, could write music in many genres, play an exquisite piano and teach. The world has known few such capable people.

I am here because I heard that Julie Andrews sang this in her professional debut at age 12 at the London Hippodrome. I'd loved to have been a fly on that wall, and a time-traveler, to boot.

Sola, perduta, abbandonata In landa desolata! Orror! Intorno a me S'oscura il ciel... Ahimè, son sola! E nel profondo deserto io cado, Strazio crudel Ah! Solo abbandonata Io, la deserta donna! Ah! Non voglio morir! No, non voglio morir! Ah! Tutto è finito! Asil di pace Ora la tomba invoco No! Non voglio morir... Non voglio morir! No, no, non voglio morir Amore, aita!

Still my all time favorite. She was the first Turandot I ever saw in the way over the top MET production at the age of 19. I have seen this very production numerous times at the MET since then…but Eva Marton made it basically impossible for everyone coming after her to be more memorable. Opera at its best…thanks for posting this.
