I think for what the Budokai Tenkaichi series wants to be, this seems like it'll be more fun. Less because of following this game for a competitive scene but because I see it as primarily wanting to be a game where you pick Frieza soldier 14829 so that you can be that guy who schools your friends using a weak character on purpose. I think a lot of the ideas of "who is strong" and "who is weak" in modern fighting games come down to tier lists decided by tournament presence and player opinions, rather than Budokai where value of strength is determined by canon power, by design. Both of them create a narrative of choosing characters based on strength, but one creates a narrative of strength designed more for tournaments and the other creates a narrative of strength that you'll see more on the couch with your friends. It's not bad to make the game unbalanced on purpose, it's just very at odds with modern fighting game culture where Twitter users jack tier lists off instead of improving at the game because they love slop content. EDIT: I also think Budokai is designed way more for playing in an extended session with friends, rather than online ranked modes where you play a few matches and go into a new faceless opponent. I see it as the kind of game where if their opponent keeps beating you with their Broly, you ask them if they can beat your Cooler, and this goes on for the whole day until you've played the whole roster. Being unbalanced is fine when the format you're spending the game in has more long sessions with constant counterpicking. Something like FighterZ is more focused on playing in a tournament setting and is made to make it easy to get to that level. It's ultimately a skill-based game where you're always focused on improving yourself, and you don't inherently need that communication or long-form sessions to feel like you're making progress on your goals. Both are technically "casual oriented fighters" but they're doing it in different ways and are meant for a different audience. I just wonder if modern fighting game players are going to "get" Sparking Zero. I'm at least glad we can still play online mode, cause this is the type of game I'd love to play while in a discord call with the homies while I do a goofy Z Broly impression and talk about dumbass things. I also just hope that the top tiers aren't top tier in that annoying, FighterZ fusion meta sort of way.

I don't understand. why should I wait to overload until I'm safe to block? it's not like i would be blocking anyway and if they think i will they'll still have the advantage of forcing me to block
@NovaZayn13 күн бұрын
Sorry I don't quite understand your question; wdym until you're safe to block and should wait? I think the "should wait" part relates to frame trapping - you WANT to land frame traps first (delay normals) because a bunch of reasons: most damaging combo starter, lower leveled people tend to mash a lot so this counters that, easiest ways to get hits, AND incites them to STOP mashing. If you overload while they continue to mash, they'll mash 5L THROUGH your 6M/DR/cross-ups so you literally "can't overload". If they continue to mash, continue to frame trap. You can only "overload" once they get conditioned to stop mashing, in which you can abuse that respect. But if they never get conditioned, then no need to change anything and you get easy dubs
@conanngan64513 күн бұрын
@@NovaZayn sorry for being unclear and making you repeat yourself. At 3:43 you say ideally overload on safe normals (-5), and i was confused about why I shouldn't overload on unsafe normals, and after thinking about it more i think it's because i can't safely bait out reflect/dp.(reflect because they could start mashing.) why would i start blocking, I thought. and if i'm trying to overload I'm definitely not blocking so what advantage does him knowing that i could safely block give me?(answer: he's not going to reflect/dp or at least those options will lose to blocking and they're conditioned to respect frametrapping)
@NovaZayn13 күн бұрын
@@conanngan645 oh mostly because of 2 things; that’s when you can cancel out of them best, and when a KEY overload is possible: just stopping. If you stop on safe normals, you bait out stuff while blocking but if it’s unsafe you’d get hit without being able to block
@NovaZayn13 күн бұрын
@@conanngan645 sorry, also revisiting this and looking at the () comments - you are right and it sounds like ur already layers ahead! Thé better u get at pressuring, and the better défense you come into, you’ll notice that overloading on unsafe normals can be a thing; people using DR after a 2M for example in tournaments is much harder to tech than 5L DR because it’s so uncommon. But these layered mixups come with more risk! It’s like trying to do IAD nothing 2M low solo; very strong but such a big gap (that’s why assists cover them)

Late saga characters were stronger stronger and gave much pressure too weaker/early Z fighters. Beside of that every character had his own unique fighting style. @@Ufuk0810 hmmm when i talk about unique, I talk about being completely different in play styles. Sure, those are slight changes to animations and frames that a lot of 3D games have, but here are examples of unique in fighterZ: - Super Baby 2 is the only one that zones like how he does, and does insane things from full screen away - Z Broly is the only one with armour on multiple tools/normals (S Broly a bit, not as much) - UI & Hit are the only one with a dodge play style, both working in very different ways - Jiren has a counter play style - 18 has a huge defensive style with mix built in - anchors differ; Tien & baseku being super aggressive with high damage, Janemba being more passive with screen control, etc They all have such unique personalities yanno? On top of how players express them (Wawa & scarlett’s Adult Gohan) While ur right in that there are those differences, everyone is still punch punch & unique supers. They all have the same movement, pressure, defence, “mix” and buttons (square = punch) although having different animations and properties But I DO like how important transformations are, hoping that can be amplified more tbh but in a balanced way, and the customizations; hope they keep on to that and it seems like it
