Did you notice a strong smell? The blue 'egg crate' style of cushions, that look exactly like Purple, only w/o a cover, smell Horrid! They came out about 2018 I think, and Target sold them in the "As seen on TV aisle", Walmart carries them at Christmas at the check-outs. The smell is so strong as to give me a migraine from one sniff!

Super helpful video. We're having trouble finding the Tonight as it is no longer on Amazon. Any experience with alternatives on Amazon, perhaps the same item but with different branding? They look identical but dimensions are a little different on the listings (inaccurate?).

I have the H1N, H2N, H5 and used to have the H6 but sold it as it was way more than I'd ever use. To be honest with you, the H2N with voice compression on going line out to the line in of my camera sounds every bit as good as the H5 and H6. Hi, I noticed that the XY microphones that the H5 comes with are smaller than the XYH-6 bought separately (or that the H6 comes with). Is there a quality difference between these XY microphone variants? Is the sound quality produced by the XYH-6 (the big one) better? Thanks

New circumstance... I have found that my Aeron is aggravating my hips because they hit the frame of the seat. As a result, I am looking for a cushion that will 'lift' me enough such that my hips do not hit the frame. With that in mind, would your recommendation change??? Thanks.

How well would the Zoom H6 record noise when recording outdoors? I need to document/record noise that is produced by an HVAC (Air Conditioner) while it is running from about 8-10 ft away. I tried to record the noise with my phone, but the recording is not clear and the recording does not sound like when you hear the noise in person. Should a mic be used with this recorder to capture the noise? If yes, which mic is recommended? Perhaps a (directional) boom mic? I might try using the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule with Hairy Windscreen with it.

One thing you should have considered was to let us listen to the lavaliere mic. plugged into the camera, bypassing the camera's microphone and using the camera's preamp.

If you centered the cushion on the Aeron chair the width would not be an issue.

My opinion ... The H1 with the lav mic sounds like you are talking straight to me... without any machine tone (for lack of a better term). Still...I will be buying one H2N, as I already have a H1N and I love it.

Thoroughly enjoyed your valuable advices and review. I am just a hobbyist photographer and occasional KZfaqr. I have been using the H1N for some time now and apart from the only complaint that both the in and out jacks and on both sides...I have no complaints, but we hobbyists suffer from GAS occasionally and I would like to buy another good sound recorder and my options are limited by their availability in the local market. My eyes are on the H2N and so far I am loving it and very much inclined towards it BUT... All of these...H1, H1N, H2, H2N are more than a decade old and although I don't have anything against older devices IF they provide what they are meant to...still...are their any newer alternatives in the market, which (theoretically) should be better in quality and more user friendly and updated with the current technologies in cameras and mobile phones. Thanks you very much for your time and effort.

interesting, in my experience the XYH5 capsule requieres a lot of gain for capturing a voice about 30 cm away from the mics, at that level of gain the H5's preamp noise starts to become noticeable. On the video it seems that the XYH6 is more quieter, but I don't know if it because the mics are more sensitive and need less gain or because the preamps on the H6 are less noisy overall. Or maybe the mics themselves have a preamp built in the capsule, that would explain the gain knob being in the capsule instead of the recorder, in which case it appears the XYH6 capsule has quieter preamps or have more sensitive mics. Idk.

Thanks for this, did the blind test and consistently preferred the HN1! Saved me £42 so in these days, that is about 1 pint of beer. Cheers!
