Hi Evan, I see why discerning architectural CADDER's rate Form.Z above similar 3D software programmes, the functionality with so many intricate tools for creation & editing which you're demonstrating with these tutorials just shows the depth of the programme. Looking forward to the next one already ! 🙂👍

At about 6:00, using the closed path, does it have to be a "surface"? I tried sweeping a closed "line" and it only opened a warning dialog. But I may have made some other error. Also hope you will show the Skin and Cross Skin tools. I am having a hard time using them. Thanks!
@EvanTroxel
@EvanTroxel 2 күн бұрын
No, it can be a closed path as well. If you start with a surface you can use the “Uncover” tool to try it out.

Thanks for this tutorial. In another set of tools I'm trying to use, the "Skin" and "Cross Skin", I can't seem to get points to line up to invoke the result. Can I add points to my sources and paths to make the tools work?

I'm using Form Z 10.0.1 (Build B137) and the behavior described at around 3:00 in the video doesn't work...To select multiple elements, the "Area Pick" tool must be used to draw a box *completely* enclosing the forms you want to pick..."left-to-right" or "right-to-left" doesn't make a difference. Also, the person in the video seems to be using the basic "Pick" tool to select multiple elements by drawing a box around them---and that's not working for me, whether or not "Allow Drag" is selected. I HAVE to use "Area Pick" if I want to select multiple elements by drawing a box.

1. Allowing the "snap to" grid to use different settings than the "visible" grid in the workspace is INCREDIBLY confusing...I can't imagine any real-world situation where I'd actually want to do that, particularly in the way it's done in this video. 2. Two forms don't *need* to have coplanar surfaces for a Boolean union to work...if they overlap it'll be fine. (The video sort of implies that the surfaces need to be coplanar, which is a bit misleading. I understand the point was to illustrate the use of object snapping, but there might be a clearer way to do that.) 3. I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but, again, this stuff is *extremely* basic 3D and most users can probably figure it out from just reading the tooltips. It would be great to see some videos that go into greater depth about building complex objects.

It's good that these videos exist, but: 1) literally *everything* shown in this video can be easily done (and with more control) using the Revolve tool and 2) in this instance at least, the tool UI is sufficiently straightforward that I would venture to say that most Form Z users *really don't need* a video to understand it. Hopefully the Form Z people will continue producing videos, and hopefully they will address the more complex and abstruse parts of Form Z rather than just plucking the low-hanging fruit.

Hi Evan, So many Form.Z tools ! even more than your previous Fundamentals course, amazing. The slicing tools seem destructive, unlike the non-destructive clipping planes, so handle with care I guess !

Ghosted operands *should* be retained in the file...i.e., the original object should still be there in a ghosted form and you can unghost it if you need it. At least that's how it was in earlier versions of Form Z. I need to check and see if it still works in FZ 10.

I have a problem and need help. I was practicing changing parameters on a cube: position, rotation and scale. When my scroll wheel zoomed the entire project out to the upper right and it "disappeared"! I tried to scroll back to enlarge it again but it didn't work. A dialog said "unable to zoom any closer. Reduce the Numeric Accuracy in the Working Units Options dialog to work at smaller scales". ID = S.29 I can't figure that out. Any help?

Either use Command/Control+F (Fit geometry) or Command/Control+Shift+H (Home view). Mouse scroll wheels and perspective views are sometimes at odds with each other. A future video on the Cone of Vision will explain why.

I have met formZ during a trip at UofM. At that time it was the best possible choice for architects. I still think that every university should buy this software cause it’s amazing. I can’t stand its competitors, they can’t 9:00 match all the features that FormZ owns.
