I was there the night the tire came over the fence, my uncle Paul Zdan raced there often. Wasn’t that great on dirt but owned Playland

Saddleback became a landfill after it was shut down. Its been filled and leveled and is nothing more than a huge trash dump. This is what the average citizen/homeowner wants to hear, unfortunately. What they think of a motorcycle park is, "not in my neighborhood!"

Yeah it was their first year. I was there, too, I was 8 years old! Maybe not this particular day but ya never know! We went almost every weekend!

I was there. Parked along the road and hiked a couple of miles to get to the track. I think it was the first year they were open.

I love it. The 23 incher hondas up front and there were so few of them on the line! I dont care what the magazine guys thought of them with a few mods they became weapons.

All the shit talking Hannah does about Howerton to this day I can't believe he has never gotten a punch in the face. Jim Pomeroy had to be the nicest guy ever

When I was 6 years old, my dad bought me a Honda Z50 for Christmas.Evey Saturday we would load up the bikes in his old Chevy van and make the trip from Anaheim to Saddleback. My dad rode a Rickman (!!!!!) back then, this was in 1971. Right before we'd go in, he would have me hide under an old U-Haul blanket with my bike so he wouldn't have to pay for me to get in. Does anyone remember the dead rattlesnakes hanging on the fence as you drove up to the gate??

@deaddoc Such a waste, and for what reason? It certainly doesn't do anything for the racing fans... makes me miss the good ol' days even more, knowing they are just one more giant step closer to never coming back...

@thebalconyisclosed A good friend of mine who is like me an AHRMA member told me recently that Motocross Action had an expose' about how the FIM was bought some few years ago by a man who raised fees to such a degree that the factories have dropped out of MX and Roadrace and it is all now just rich people. That is why the Americans always win MX des Nations events. Greed has killed the FIM. Sad

The list below is good. However, there must have been a CZ or two out there. Those and Maicos became very expensive, but both were top mounts until the end of the '70s. I used to race a CZ in that region (California) and there was no shortage of either of those.

Yeah, we used to have the most unpredictable conditions - "rain or shine" was the usual tag after an event announcement. As posters here no doubt realize, original MX was supposed to be a closed mile to two mile circuit over NATURAL terrain. An occassional jump might be added at local events to slow down the bikes, but GPs and InterAM events had zero artificial additions. It's all about money. Making MX into a stadium show by turning it into a pogo stick contest made money.
