Good information Katy. My wife and I are on a no-red meat diet and I will try chicken breasts to make smothered chili verde with a power station. I have always made the pork version this way and I recently did the chicken breast with a drained can of black beans. I like LaVictoria's Green Chili Salsa. I have always wanted to put a box on the outside of my house to charge power stations. I may get around to it this fall when it's not so sweltering.

Is this the kind of cooktop that pulses in and off or does that wattage stay constant when you put it on lower power?
@KatysCampKitchen
@KatysCampKitchen 22 күн бұрын
Hi! It stays constant and doesn’t pulse. When it reaches temp, it will cut off and on, but not pulsing - I hope that makes sense. Also, as you pick higher temps, the wattage increments up but stays consistent Hope this answers your question… please let me know … Thanks! Katy

Hi Keith I will get back to you later tonight when I get home - it will be very late tonight A couple of tips that may help in the interim….. If you are using a power station, leave the cooktop unconnected while you power the cooktop. Wait about 30 seconds before plugging in. Then hit pause / clear TWICE If you are on a power station, select watts and toggle down to 600 watts and make sure you are on medium low. Then press start I’m doing this from memory and hope it works for you In the meantime, are there any lights when you power it? Thanks Katy😀

HI Again Keith, In a recent video, I had a demo of my cooktop not turning on like I thought it should. I showed how I solved the problem. It is in the mac and cheese video that is in the last 3 or 4 videos that i have posted. Check around time 2:55 where I show how to (hopefully) get yours to operate also. Here is the video link - I hope it works, if not, it is the mac and cheese video - it has the huge 3X Less writing on the right side of the thumbnail. Please let me know whether or not this works for your situation. I am happy to try and help you through it, if what I showed in the video doesn't work. HI! Thanks so much for your comment! Funny you should ask - I have this in my list of videos coming out in July (I have often wondered if people would be interested in this topic). I am not done with it yet, or I would link it to you.... For a stand alone small electric kettle, I would recommend the Stoke Voltaics Joulle - it needs 500Watts to run and it brings about 2 cups of water to a full boil in 5-6 minutes. They are pricey but really work and are very sturdy. You can also heat food in them. They often have a promotion (or two) with them, where they add in some extra items - presently they have a free stirring stick with them. Just look for the extra savings orange rectangle and click on that to add the stirring rod for free. Here is an (affiliate) link: amzn.to/4bI6Frf - I have been using mine for about a year and really like it. It really works. For cleaning out food, I just use a bottle brush. More often, I just heat the water and add it to a cup with my coffee or Ramen, etc. For boiling larger amounts of water, I have also used a nuwave induction cooktop with a saucepan to heat water - I showed this in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mtphgcSUrLamn4E.htmlsi=MQFTfl2nytkSJWRS If that video link doesn't work, the name of the video is Induction Cooking with Small Power Stations Off Grid - Salmon with Vegetables and Hamburgers - Around time 6:50 is where the water boiling starts. It took about 15 minutes to boil 4 cups of water and used 120 Watt hours. Here is an affiliate link to the cooktop: amzn.to/3V3Lj0j This works really well if you have enough power - I have used it with a Bluetti EB3A that has a 600 Watt inverter. You will need an induction compatible saucepan - a magnet should stick to the bottom). Here is my favorite little saucepan: amzn.to/3wZ5qoq (affiliate link). That saucepan also has a built in strainer on the lid and fits into a small space because the handle is compact. You can see me using the saucepan and induction cooktop in the macaroni video that is a few videos back. There are a couple of other products that I am waiting for, that will be part of the test. One is a 12 ounce water heater that holds 12 ounces and the other is one of the old fashioned coils. I haven’t tested these yet, but provided affiliate links to them, so you can see what I am trying. If I remember correctly, they run on less power and may work better for you. Here are links to those: amzn.to/3VkiWfL amzn.to/4ck0ycP I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions! I hope you see this! Thanks, Katy ;)

Hi - I have a work van with a 700w inverter in the back (need to keep the van running so it doesn't cut out) Do you think an inverter microwave will run off this inverter? I have alternatively been looking at getting a power station too
@KatysCampKitchen
@KatysCampKitchen 2 ай бұрын
Hi! Just getting back to you now that I can check my detailed data.... Some of this is shown around Time marker 2:10 in the video and then later. With a 700 Watt Inverter, you should be able to run power levels 1, 2, 3, and 4. Power Level 3 is Low and PL 4 is medium-ish. I have reheated many meals with that level. It is like setting a regurlar microwave to medium so that the food can cook through versus cooking the outside only and the inside being cold. Power level 3 and 4 can also be used to defrost. Around time marker 8:10, there is a listing power Power Level versus Power needed. The Pink column is the power level and the Blue column are the Watts needed to run at that power level. Using this, you can estimate the power level that could be achieved if you decide to get a power station or another inverter.... FYI, in the video, I had showed that an EcoFlow River has a 720 Watt inverter - that is in error - it has only a 600W (this information is in the video description also). The 720 Watts of the EcoFlow River is when it is on boost and it would only run a few seconds there. I have the later model EcoFlow River 2, and it works great for the microwave and will go up to power level 5. I have run the microwave with the EcoFlow River 2 Pro and the Bluetti EB3A quite a bit and both work well in the small power station area. I hope this helps! Please let me know if this is the information you were looking for and if you have any other questions! Thanks, Katy

Your video was quoted by Gemini Google AI for an example that an instant pot does not use the full wattage listed on the the device, for the full duration of cooking. I will consider using an instant pot to cook beans and pasta while using solar / battery power of a camper van. My main power draw will be my laptop, and I can control the power it uses, but want to use it many hours per day. I have other devices such as lights, power to aid devices associated with a diesel heater and some miscellaneous other small things occasionally.
@KatysCampKitchen
@KatysCampKitchen 3 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your comment and for letting me know about the quote! The Instant Pot was why I started my channel as I couldn't find any real information about energy usage. If you haven't seen my microwave video, most microwaves use MORE than the quoted amount as far as instanteous power goes, so when people try to use a portable power station, they are surprised it doesn't work - the microwaves advertise the cooking power. On the power tag, they give a power consumption number - this must be an average of some type, because the instanteous is definately higher by a significant amount. This was an eye opener to me.... Thanks again! Katy

Thx for another testing & review video about cooking with the NuWave and what kind of power consumption you got. Somehow I missed this video when I watched your first couple on the NuWave. I have the older version with a 6” diameter induction ring (I think the overall top is 8 or 10” surface), which is just fine cooking for only 1 or 2 people. My question for is dos that power station in this video or the Bluetti in the other Pt.1 video recharge well plugged into a vehicle’s 12v socket while driving? I see the info on the Amz page about recharging in the house 🔌 or using ☀️ solar panels, but I’m planning a month+ long car camping trip where a lot of time I will be driving during sunlight hours. Thx.

Hi Karin , Thanks for your question - The short answer is yes. If you need some info quicker, KZfaqr Jasonoid has very detailed reviews in both. Hi Karin, We were stuck at home today so I didn't get to test this driving ( We are planning a trip out tomorrow and will test both then while driving and post a Part two late tomorrow night, but i do have some preliminary info. I did try it in both our vehicles and both power stations worked fine. How fast will it charge? FYI, all modern cars have an 8 Amp limit (may be a little more in some cases), on the cigarette charger. Depending on the cars electronics, etc., the power stations will charge around 100W to 120W per hour (while the cigarette plug is around 8 Amps, and the voltage is 13.3 V and up ; The math is: Power (Watts) = Voltage (Volts, V) x Current (Amps, A). In this case, Power for charging = Voltage from Cigarette Lighter (13.3V) x Current the car allows (8A) = 106 Watts Power to recharge the power station. These numbers may vary a bit - some cars will have higher voltages, especially when running. So with roughly 100W coming into each power unit, the EB3a will take about 2.5ish hours to recharge from 0 to 100%, while the EcoFlow will take 7ish hours based solely on the fact that the EF has more battery capacity to recharge, but of course is usable with a partial charge. Here are some of the nuances when using especially small power stations.... Both these power stations are great small units. One big difference between them is the ratio of battery capacity (Watthours) to Inverter size (Watts). When I run the Bluetti at or near the max inverter load, it works fine. When I go to recharge it, sometimes it will show a temperature warning . As it cools, it will eventually start charging first at a lower wattage around 100w and then increase from there. I had a video where I talked about this some (the microwave video - I think it is my best video 😀, in case you haven't seen it). When i run it at lower power levels like 200W, I haven't noticed any temperature notifications. This could just be my unit - not sure. I hadn’t thought deeply about this until your question- I thought at the time, that it was just that it was over 100 degrees that day and the sun was baking the unit and adding even more heat. The EcoFlow River2 Pro has an 800Watt inverter and 768WH of energy. These match well and I have never seen a temperture notification or had to wait for it to cool to start recarging. In that same microwave video, I was cooking with the microwave, while charging from solar on a really hot day. When the induction cooktops are hooked to a power station, it is best to plug in the cooktop to a power station with the AC off. Then turn on the AC and wait a few seconds before setting the heat level, etc., on te cooktop. I think the power station inverter needs to settle out for a few seconds before the cooktop inverter is operated. I think there can be a little interference there if both are switcing at the same time. I don't have the instruments to prove my hypothesis, but that is my working theory at the moment. They both work fine, but it can appear that there is a problem when there is not. The best thing to do when it looks goofy, is to leave the power station and AC inverter on, unplug the cooktop and then plug it back in - kind of like rebooting in a way. when I have done this sequence, there are no hiccups. I have noticed this on the Bluetti only, but that could just be coincidence. FYI, When I purchased my Bluetti, I needed to buy the 12Volt cord separately - Mine didn't come with one. Manufacturers change what is in the box versus not, so I just wanted you to be aware (I always buy an extra anyway). My EF did come with all the cables in the box. I apologize that this is so long ( I think i might need to write a website article on this 😀). We are planning to go for a little drive tomorrow and I will get back to you late tomorrow night with the info on the charging. Thanks for this great question! Please let me know if you have any follow up questions... Katy

Hi Karin, Here is part 3 of the reply to your question. I tested them both today. Both systems were partially discharged - the BLUETTI down to 75% remaining and the EcoFlow to 81% remaining. I have a hybrid vehicle, but checking Jasonoid results, mine are in the Ballpark of his. For the EcoFlow with the larger battery, based in this test, the would estimate about 7.5 hour to fully charge from zero to the 768WH capacity (it had a constant pull I. Of power). Jason measured 8 hours. For the BLUETTI, I would would estimate about 3.5 hours (the input power varied on this one perhaps because of the hybrid. Jason’s data was 3 hours when he tested it. On mine, the unit reached 100 % and I missed it, so I think my number could be high (charge time likely closer to Jason’s 3 hour number). And Yes, both systems worked well. FYI the EvoFlow came with all the accessory cables. For the BLUETTI, only the AC came with. I bought the 12V plug and solar cables based on the panels that I have I hope I answered your question fully. Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or topics- this was fun!!!! - I have always solar charged or wall plug charged these to date. I have had a mega video rolling around in my head for a few months and this was the first step o needed to take to get the ball rolling Thanks so much! Katy

@KatysCampKitchen
@KatysCampKitchen 6 ай бұрын
Hi Stuart, Thank you so much for your comment! The other thing that I have done also is to use the amount of water called for, bring it to a boil, add the pasta, bring back to a boil and then shut the heat off. Let the pasta set for 20 minutes covered. Then drain, add the butter, milk and cheese powder and stir. If too cool after adding the sauce ingredients, then heat to desired temperature. This will still definitely save some energy. Sometimes I have had to add a bit of water back. When I looked at the video footage, the point at which it had reboiled the Kraft and ready to cook for 10 minutes, the energy meter was at 208 Watt hours. So nominally this way would save nominally 100 Watt hours, while using the full 6 cups and draining. Thanks so much for your great comment! I really appreciate it! Katy

I would have never thought to lower the water amount and then throw all the ingredients in for Mac and Cheese. I've cooked Alfredo this way but thanks for opening my eyes to a new way for mac and cheese. I'll probably lower the water down a tiny bit just to get the result a little more dry. Thanks for the share, Katy!

Hi Jason! Yes that works! I like to add in broccoli and chicken too. If you cook the Kraft, it comes out perfectly dry for Mac and Cheese alone with the water listed for it. I cooked about 20 boxes of each and now have Mac and cheese in the freezer for at least 6 months!!!

Thanks for making these type videos. I also have the BLUETTI eb3a. I also have a dezin hotpot that in the low setting pulls about 300watts so that’s perfect for the 600watts eb3a. I use up about 15-25 % of that battery depending on what I cook up. I have an older nuwave induction also but it’s not the one you can program to lower the wattage. But I have a bigger battery that can handle that.

I bought two 100w 12v rice cookers that can plug in to the 10 amp cigarette lighter ports. These work with most of my power stations, even my 300 watt tiny Golabs. Cooking rice uses 20 to 25 percent of the Golabs` capacity and takes about 40 minutes. I got two of them so I can make lentils to go with the rice. I also go four of the 350w Dash mini griddles. One is their waffle maker. They make amazing biscuits. I can use them with my cheap 500w power stations and my Bluetti EB70s. I also like using the 12v 120w immersion cup water heaters. You can boil eggs in a cup with those or make tea and instant coffee or cup noodles. I got a 600w immersion bucket water heater for heating bathing and washing water in a 5 gallon bucket in my camper. By the time the water is warm enough my camper bathroom is warm but for extreme cold I got a 200w Lasko mini space heater. It has been nice to have in cold weather to blow hot air on me because I live in my camper and it can get cold even though this is Louisiana. I found out that my Bluetti can run my tiny Frigidare air conditioner for about an hour and a half but I got those for my freezer when power fails. My 500w ones power my dorm fridge. I use a large 300ah Ampere Time for my microwave and air conditioner.

Such Great Ideas!!!! I love the Dash appliances! I need to get a 12V rice cooker. I have one of the immersion heaters that I need to test.... I have seen you on Jasonoid Livestreams (I think)... Great to see you here! Thanks for your great comment! Katy

I think Jasonoid is where I saw you and subbed. A lot of channels don`t show up in searches so I always find new ones in livestreams. Not sure if I mentioned this but the various 12v cookers can be connected directly to solar panels and used that way too. I bought the wiring and connectors to do this but haven`t tried it. I need to test polarity of everything. Some said the 12v cigarette lighter plug I got with MC4 cables is wired backwards. So it may be best to wire one up in a DIY thing. I love running my Onite LED light bulbs and USB fans directly from my high wattage folding panels. Their USB ports work even on very cloudy days and even in the shade. I`m in hurricane country and obsessively declared total war on power outages. LOL!@@KatysCampKitchen

HI! Thanks so much for your kind comment! I am using a ThermoPop from the company Thermoworks. They are great thermometers and have just released a new version of this one that has a larger display (the ThermoPop2 - 4.5 inch version). www.thermoworks.com/ (not an affiliate link) FYI, They do Not sell on Amazon - though you might see some there, and have a note on their website (they are fighting against counterfeits). I love their products and have many of them! They do have regular sales, so worth checking their website. They have a great blog also. They are located in Utah and you can order directly from them. Thanks! Katy

Just a thank you… I’ve gone mad trying to identify a simple, safe, & efficient electrical cooking/re-heating device for a mini vehicle camper (when not using outside woodstove) and this 12V version just may be it. And your videos (including that of the Instapot) helped very much. Your videos are so well done, so concise, very refreshing in this sea of junk videos.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I really appreciate your kind comment! I try to make videos that would help me and ones that I was looking for.... Just the facts and none of the fluff! The Sabot Heat comes in and out of stock especially holidays. Sometimes they have the 12V, sometimes the 120V and sometimes both.... I have both and both work great! I appreciate you taking the time to comment! Katy 😀😀😀

@@KatysCampKitchen Hi Katy, thank you for the reply. Just an FYI towards the Sabot vs. the HotLogic (which seems the original and most popular of these mini carbon heatplates) that I’ve discovered… the Sabot has wattage & time controls but no temperature control while the HotLogic has fixed temperature control (165-180F) at fixed wattage and runs indefinitely. Each has pros/cons but I think the Sabot is better, though I wish it had adjustable temperature control as well… oops, I just watched your HotLogic video and you detailed it very well. I think there are good applications for both.

Hi Kathy. I made a video similar to this trying to boil water for Mac n cheese but unfortunately mine wasn’t successful (battery drained and ran out of power before I could fully cook the macaroni). Thank you for making this video to show it’s possible to warm up some soup. I have made some hard boiled eggs in a small pot before too using this same setup and it worked.

Hi! Apologies that I didn't respond sooner, but I just saw your comment with the holiday, etc. I just did an experiment with my EB3A and I was able to make mac and cheese - I didn't have the Annies on hand tonight, but here is what I did.... I will make a video over the next few days, but I wanted to get back to you more quickly. Firstly, I have the Pic Gold. I was NOT on power lift mode with the Bluetti eb3a. I was on 600 Watts which also showed Medium and 275 degrees). I was at approx. 900 ft altitude when I did this little test. I used a pan with about a quart of water and 1 cup of pasta and 1/2 tsp salt. I heated the water (about 4 cups) with the pot covered (when I thought about it near the end), and added the salt near the end. My pot was a bit narrower than yours from what i can tell just looking at your video. I don't have a box of the mac n cheese here to try at the moment, but the 6 cups called for on the box seems excessive to me - I typically use no more than 4 to 1 ratio of water to pasta. I guess the pasta may be a little bit more starchy, but I am not sure that matters much since the water is being poured off. Then, I added the pasta, stirred in and CUT OFF THE POWER STATION AND THUS THE HEAT (this is key). I waited 20 minutes for the pasta to rehydrate. Next, I drained the pasta, stirred in the cheese powder, salt and pepper and done. I took a little video, but I will do it more exactly over the next few days. I was just putzing around and didn't measure the water temp out of the temp (but it wasn't that hot), and I forgot to put an energy monitor in the loop. I had about 29% left and I think I started at 96%. (I was a little inefficient here, so we will see what it ends up being when I more formally do the experiment). I will make a video in the next few days and post it. I will try to get a box of mac and cheese tomorrow (depending on how crazy the traffic is). I have been working on another video (which should have been a simple video, but has turned into a monster), for a few weeks and I am stuck on it, so this will be a great diversion! FYI, I did a part two of this video where I boiled water (I was using a different power station though (around the 6:50 mark) Thanks for your comment! I will let you know when I have posted the video... Katy 😀

@mclaine33 Hi, I was able to make the same brand of mac and cheese that you have using the EB3A, with some modifications to the cooking directions. I did take careful measurements this time and recorded some video. I will work on the video compilation and hope to have it available on KZfaq sometime this weekend. It was a fun challenge! Thanks for your comment! Katy

@@mclaine33 I’m so glad you saw my reply! Yesterday as I was heavily into the video edit, I remembered a video that I had seen a few months back. One thing led to another and more testing. Now I have found a way to decrease the power even more without sacrificing taste. I did the initial testing today and will be doing it formally over the next few days and then get a video out - probably next weekend given my schedule - I think the improvement in power efficiency is better to add to the video and thus delay it a few days, so people have few new ways to choose from. It is amazing to me how many methods people use to cook Mac and Cheese! Thanks so much for your comment!!!
