Awesome video. But should be noted hockey began in Nova Scotia. McGill’s first hockey team wore Starr hockey skates made in Dartmouth, NS

Very inaccurate reading reading of Art Ross' playing career. He had 56 goals and 72 total points across 131 games in the National Hockey Association, the NHL's direct predecessor and basically the NHL in every way besides legally. While true he wasn't a huge scorer (he was a defenceman; trophies were named after important figures in league history or the person who donatrd the physical trophy to the NHL) according to Wikipedia he also helped pioneer the rushing of the puck by a defenceman instead of just passing it. As for his three NHL gsmes, he was at the end of a career spanning over a decade at this point and he played for the Montreal Wanderers, whose arena burned down mere weeks into the season, forcing them to fold. He merely opted to retire rather than play elsewhere.

Since broadcasters use the terms.... Good opportunity to explain "strong side" is always the side of the ice the puck is on, "weak side" is the opposite side.....

The extent to which violence is accepted but behaviours like spearing and kicking are practically unheard of is a very interesting social phenomenon
@CheapSeatsSports

Well to be fair kicking in hockey is literally life threatening, but I get what you mean.
@tabby7189
@tabby7189 13 күн бұрын
@@CheapSeatsSports depends how they kick. Hitting with the shin is usually not life threatening (not that it doesn't easily produce injury), or with anything other than the blade for that matter unless it lands on the neck or head or something like that. Blade on some parts of the padding also wouldn't be life threatening (again, not that it isn't intolerably dangerous)

Yeah really the only obvious "problem" with it is that it isn't an interesting move no one saw coming. But that can also be a good thing.

There is no extra "a" in Dan Bylsma's last name. It is not Dan By-al-a-sma. Might want to spend a few minutes learning how to pronounce his name if you are wanting to represent the future Kraken.

I think this is a good move, and I know there are many nuances, but I do find it a tad ironic when people cut the cord are vocal about how much better it is to not pay for cable and then have a hard time watching what they wanna watch😂

9:25 Whether it's specifically in the rule book or not, it is widely understood that if a high stick causes bleeding it is an automatic double minor penalty.
@CheapSeatsSports
@CheapSeatsSports 16 күн бұрын
True. The rules intentionally leave room for the officials to call what they see as fit for the situation and almost always blood means a double minor.
@Wolky324

7:53 high sticking over the crossbar is only when it leads to a goal. A player can high stick up to his shoulders to play the puck.

It's kind of interesting how a team ended up in Oakland in the first place. The main reason they ended up there was because the TV contract signed with CBS at the time of the expansion required there to be a team in northern California. They preferred to put them in San Francisco, but when they couldn't find an adequate arena, they turned to a then-new Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum instead. After the Seals' struggles in their first year, the owner of the team was negotiating with Labatt Breweries to have them purchase them and move them to Vancouver, but the NHL voted it down as so not to jeopardize their American TV deal.

I agree with almost all of these except Defensive Forward. You really should have included Tanev. Name one other player who literally sacrificed his body and/or stick almost every game to block pucks? I lost count of how many times he handed off his stick to a team mate whose stick broke and then used his body to block shots.
@CheapSeatsSports
@CheapSeatsSports 25 күн бұрын
Tanev probably does have the highest number of heroic blocks as a forward and I could've included him but there is more to good defense than just blocking shots. Still he'd be easy top 5

What about when the refs not making any penalty calls on the opposite team but are calling them on the home team especially when the opposite team is tripping, slashing, high sticking etc.?!It’s like free for all hockey! The only thing they call is icing!

As far as this video goes. I gotta say I'm HIGHLY ENCOURAGED by Hakstol being canned. I didn't like the hire from day one. I firmly believe that in the NHL you need a coach who has emotion, and will fight for you. This team like I'm year 1 had ZERO FIGHT. It takes a RIDICULOUS hit on Beniers that nearly broke his neck by Cole "The Turtle" Sillinger and another Potential neck breaker on Dunn from Marcia Popsicle in Calgary for this team to show it's fangs. It should NOT TAKE a near life threatening hit on a teammate for you to drop the gloves. I absolutely believe that the orders to not fight and to relax came from Mr Stoneface Dave Hakstol. NO NO NO that's not what this team needed. They needed the ability to stand up for themselves and they need their coach behind them to do it. He just wasn't. And even the Leah Hexstall goes to Bat for you on National TV during a game. Your job is over period point blank. Dave may be a great hockey mind but he's more suited to a assistant or associate coach. He's not a good HC. If he was then Philly never would have let him go
@CheapSeatsSports

I do agree they need to have a little more fight and toughness as a team. You can't afford to have your Top Defensemen be the guy that goes to fight players after a bad hit. I think Kartye might be playing into that role a little bit but we'll see.

I asked this on a previous video and never got a reply. I pay for ESPN+. with the Kraken going to Amazon prime now so I need to have Amazon prime to watch them play or can I stay on ESPN+?? I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't know. None of the forums can answer that question
