If money is an issue for the the Fortuner is the best bet. If not then the Prado. The 4Runner comes last, it doesn't have the 1GD-FTV, and that;s a lot to give up!

Crazy how the V6 GLC43 with Performance exhaust is louder than the V8. I think the V8 is more muted and has more packing in the exhaust.

Diesel torqy engines are not only good for rock crawling, but for large sand traps with significantly less heat than gas. So if you want to go somewhere in middle east or west America diesel is something to think about

The Rubicon beats the TRD Pro off road especially on rocks due to the Rubicon's greater articulation of it's rear AND front solid axles. The TRD Pro's front diff is an independent front suspension (IFS) setup which has less articulation compared to the solid front axle setups as the lower RTI scores generally indicate between the two suspension types. Additionally the Rubicon has locking axles front AND rear plus a front disconnecting sway bar. The 4Runner TRD Pro has a rear locker but no front locker. THE Toyota KDSS competes with the Rubicon's disconnecting front sway bar, but to my knowledge the KDSS is not available on the TRD Pro. However the 4Runner TRD Pro is damn good and will do about 80%-90% of what a Rubicon will do. Not to mention that the TRD Pro will do everything within that 80%-90% range better than the Rubicon. The Rubicon is like an Army sniper which is made to get where no one else can and do one thing extremely well. The TRD Pro is like an Army Ranger which are made for a much wider range of operations. Or in Air Force analogies the Rubicon is like the F22 Raptor which is made for one thing at the sacrifice of everything else, and the TRD Pro is like the F35 Lighting which is made to cover virtually every other mission. Both are winners in my opinion. The real deciding factor is for the potential buyer to have a clear understanding of what their missions will probably lean towards, and then pic the right tool for the job.
