She deployed lots of the over 60 years tactics. Serves and returns to short forehand without a lot of energy to destabilize your balance and then next return to deep backhand. I think the most confusing thing about this playstyle is you don't really know where they are going to hit it until the very last second due to the poke/jabbing nature of her stroke. Fun game to watch. This style makes opponents off balanced alot. Seeing if i can incorporate some of this in my game.

I've been losing to Chad for 8 years now. I started losing to him when I was rated 400 points below him, and now I'm 200 points above him - still losing... To be fair, I'm not struggling with the red side, I don't know what to do with his flat hit with the black side. It's supposed to be inverted rubber, but I think it's so old that it's basically short pips. The ball comes floating no spin, I can't attack it.

Michael is the weirdest player I've ever played. I only played him once, but now that I've seen this game I understand even less. He's rated 2000+ and seems to be focused on those weird all-out forehand shots that only use the elbow and not the rest of the body, but at the same time he tends to forehand push a lot of balls that seem pretty good for an attack. From the backhand he has absolutely nothing, but he's good at fishing balls from the back of the court. I really don't understand :)

Those are great forehand attacks with a step-around, they worked pretty well when we played, too. One thing though - you shouldn't get too reliant on any particular element of your game, you really need to start developing an aggressive over-the-table topspin attack, otherwise I can just push to your backhand and put too much pressure on your step-around, you're not Jishan, you can't do it consistently when I know you're about to do it. Otherwise great movement.

@@musclepong your footwork and forehand loop are both already 300 points above your rating. What's holding you back is your backhand. It's one thing when you must run around and play your forehand on every ball you want to attack, it's a completely different thing when you MAY choose to step around, but can also attack with the backhand. Completely different level of play.

Just a couple things i noticed: -the majority of your serves were to his BH, which seem to play to his strengths. I saw more serve placement variations in Game 4 but it might have been too late. Maybe use your early games to probe for weaknesses in his receives -when you pivot attack from your BH, it usually goes to his BH, letting him get those crazy blocks -not sure if you were having trouble reading his serves (quite understandable!), but you pushed a lot of topspin balls high, allowing him to attack. If you're sticking with short pips, maybe see if your coach will train with you on attacking with them since they're less susceptible to spin... Either that or master the drop shot. In general, i assume serves are topspin unless they're clearly not (dunno if that makes sense...). -i think the big takeaway vs these types of defensive players is that you don't need to feel pressured to attack asap. Be patient with safe, quality rallies and wait for the right ball. Instead of attacking cross court with 90% power where he expects it, try attacking down the line at 75% power to keep him honest. Don't be discouraged and keep up the good work!

Oh man, i played this guy as well in February Open who also beat me 3-1. Same exact style as he has now, probably more polished here. From here and what i remember he just played a solid game in the backhand cross court. His backhand pushing had good quality at the level(hard to outright kill it) and he wasnt afraid to take your first loop in fact he is expecting it. Im curious to understand what the coaching advice was as i am also trying to figure out this puzzle to break this type of defender game play who have strong block and backhand pushing skills. I really like this game you posted. It had a lot of mental back and forth and problem solving with the tools at hand. I would have to argue that Igor's style has a good matchup against forehand dominating players though.

No disrespect to Eduard, but he has basically 1 serve and can't attack the 3rd ball effectively. The main reason of serving is to either get an ace or control the flow of the point, but it seems that when you just blocked his serve he struggled to loop the 3rd ball (or attack it in any other way). He has a good ranking so he must be good, don't know if he had a bad day or if people can'r usually return his serve.
@lt.kettch

If I many be so bold, in this game, it seemed like you really favored your BH for serve receives and it can really pull you out of position if the opponent serves short to you FH (i.e.: 5:22 & 7:46). You have really fast reaction time and footwork so it's ok for now but I feel like it'll make things a lot easier for you if you utilized your FH for 2nd ball a little more (when appropriate, of course). If you're going to use BH on FH receives, it might actually be safer to attack it with a flick or aggressive push to their long FH so they have a more difficult 3rd ball and set you up for your 4th. Just my opinion though 😅

Your rating would go up a lot of points if you developed some new short serves with variation of sidespin topspin and side underspin. Learn the hook serve and its side-under spin and its topspin version. Learn some fast long serves to catch people of guard and you could develop a backhand flick which would seriously boost your playing level. I would say that you have a great forehand topspin, but you need to learn how to attack with backhand topspin. A lot of attacking oppurnities are missed because you just push a high push that comes to your backhand instead of attacking. With these, you could beat this kid next time

Still uploading matches from before I switched to the DARK SIDE... short pips match play coming soon tho! Thanks - I've gotten a lot of coaching over the past two year since I've started so I'd say getting a good coach to help you with form and practice single ball and multi-ball drills help a lot. In terms of cues that have helped me out: - Initiating power from the legs and hips (think torque with your hips kinda like your dancing lol) - Learning weight transfer (this took me a long time tbh but shadow training / practicing at home helped me a lot) - Instant power by flexing / snapping forearm at end of the stroke helps (I used to practice flexing / relaxing a bunch at home per my coach's suggestion) - Relaxing body until moment of contact then snapping Another thing my coach told me that was helpful to visualize the power transfer was comparing it to boxing with how fighters punch since I used to only use my arms when looping so now I try to focus on using my whole body to generate more power. Hopefully that helps!

Some serve mistakes and some overhitting on balls that were easily your point, but I guess it was the pressure to get points, it happens to me in tournaments, sometimes you want the point so badly you feel like you have to rip the ball. I like watching your games, you are very dynamic, I wish I had your footwork, then my loops would be more consistent. I think short pips fit your game really well, they allow you to uncomfortable blocks for your opponent and then you can pivot and keep attacking, I have been using SP for 2 months and I am not half as good as you with them (my footwork is not good tho). By the way, when someone does a high loop (like Eric on game 4), don't wait for it to kick, try to get it not far after it bounces and from the top, you will return a no spin ball very uncomfortable for the opponent, like on my video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebF7fMuWkq2ZeKc.html on minute 4:23
