Watching your videos has made me decide to sell my Xenobia 6 and get something a tent with this kind of layout. You sold your Xenobia 8, how did you go about that? Just sold it to someone local, a recommended website or something? Also, would you consider doing a full video on your camping essentials? Many thanks.

Interesting and informative review, thank you. I'd like to see the comparison extend to steel pole tents, which are still common and popular. I have a steel poled Outwell Montana 6 and awning, which I "upgraded" (ahem) last year to a second-hand Berghaus Air 6. Your observation about still having to peg out all the guy lines was spot on: in fact, I've found the bulk of the pitching time for each is the pegging out, so the overall time saving is not as great as you'd think. Another factor to consider is what happens when the tent is no longer new. With our much used Air 6, the bayonet fitting of the pump into the beam valves had become loose and kept popping out during inflation. Frustrating and ended up needing two people - one just to hold the pump fitting into the valve. A big advantage of steel poles is that they are MUCH stronger and more wind resistant than fibreglass. During a camping trip on the IoW in 2015, we caught the tail end of a hurricane from across the Atlantic. Our Montana and all the other steel poled and air tents survived pretty much unscathed, whilst the campsite was strewn with the remains of collapsed fibreglass poled tents. The big downside of steel poles, though, is weight, although this is offset somewhat as the poles come in a separate bag, so the total weight is split. (BTW - I sold the Air 6 and have gone back to the Montana).

I think if you can get it in a deal with the carpet then yes, it’s nice to have but not essential. The carpet is what I think is a must, makes the tent feel much cosier. Thanks for watching!

A potential problem with air supported tents/awnings is the bladders can thermally expand and burst - as happened to a friends caravan awning this summer. Something to be aware of.

@@cyclingn8 I have same issue on one beam on my Sprayway valley M and the only solution is to replace the beam!! Even 8 psi doesn't cure it, and tightening the guys just pulls it down further. As soon as i saw this, I've eliminated it from my list of next tent

I cycle on the dual carriageway on that section all the way to Trentham sometimes, it's not too scary to be honest never had any issues with vehicles getting close. With it being a dual carriageway cars have plenty of room to pass.

I thought that air tents were supposed to be stronger but camping last night, ours got absolutely battered by 50mph winds, it lost sll of its integrity and completely collapsed. However, almost every other camper on the site was using pole tents and none of them had a problem.

Very nicely conducted review - having clearly identified and explained criteria up front is important, as is the observation that the criteria don’t carry the same weight for all people. I was interested in the maintenance aspect, as that had been a factor that disqualified air tents for me. Poles are so easy and cheap to repair provided you prepare yourself for it, but I did not realize that air beams are also relatively easy.
@cyclingn8
@cyclingn8 7 күн бұрын
Thank you, I tried to be as objective as possible and cover all the points I thought to be important. Yes air beams are relatively easy to change, as long as you can get the right tube. Thanks for watching!

Yes fully agree, if there is a genuine need we should reopen, as rail is a very efficient way to move lots of people. My favourite places to ride are disused railways so would like to as many kept as public spaces, but understand if a need is there, but must be justified. Thanks for watching!

not my type of video to watch, but i was intrigued to find out & watch that it is possible to travel from city centre to Shrewsbury via the canal system, brilliant, you should trade in your bikes for a gravel bike as it will provide you with the best of both worlds, i raced for years on road mainly & occasionally on mtb, i now own a good gravel bike, on today's roads it's perfect whilst being fast & economical on the road with the added bonus of being able to ride on ruff terrain also, brilliant, my gravel bike has injected a new lease of life to cycling & i have been using the canals whenever i can to commute with no fear of damage or punctures, I live around the Moseley area & travel to Yardley wood to gain access to the canal system were i can happily travel to Stratford upon avon with a few roads to navigate, all good fun, i would like to see just how far the canal system can take you as i know a lot of the canals have changed greatly.

Great video. I've cycled this route many times myself. The two bottle kilns at the start of the video are near to Botteslow Street. Used to be rows & rows of terraces, where Stanley Matthews, the footballer was born. Riding from Hanford to Westport Lake is unrecognisable now. Forty years ago there were 'pot-banks' all the way along for miles. Now they are all completely gone & a lot of the area is derelict. Twyfords in Etrururia used to produce toilets that were exported all over the world. Now it's just an abandoned wreck. Very very sad. Stoke on Trent used to be the Ceramic Centre of The World. Now its full of car-parks & dustheads. Some great bike rides in Newcastle under Lyme too, on the old mineral railway line to Silverdale. Then up to Keele University. Down Keele bank back into Newcastle or three mile lane to Whitmore. On to stableford/Hanchurch...Hanchurch crossroads to Trentham Gardens. The Gardens back along the A34 to Newcastle !!

The industrial decline in Stoke is very sad, I’m sure more could have been done to preserve more of the history and heritage in places. I have ridden out to Silverdale on the disused market Drayton line, even had a peek in the tunnel (I have a video on this you might like) but never thought to li I it up with other routes, will have to check it out.
