any tips on getting the laces tight? it seems as i’m lacing if i pull the laces as tight as i can they end up being way too narrow and causing the leather to overlap, otherwise they’re too loose once i’m finished

Can anyone help, is there a way to clean the laces? they are brand new, they are still on the football

*BY FAR* the hardest part of this operation is getting the valve to pull through the hole in the carcass. I was successful on the first football. On the 2nd, it wouldn't pull through and bits of it kept breaking off until there was nothing left to grab hold of, rendering the bladder no good. Had to throw it away.

Thank you for this video. Wish i had this when i was a young man,could have saved a few balls. One question. What whould you consider the optimal psi to fill the ball so its not to tight or loose to start the lacing process?

@@magnalens946 Thank you. I just rebladdered and laced a ball. That's exactly what I put in. But I thought I'd ask because you appear to be an expert. Again awesome video and thank you so much.

what is the tool you are using?
@DSPbradenton Жыл бұрын
It is a baseball glove lacing tool that I sanded all the rough edges off of so as not to puncture the bladder
@frowe327 Жыл бұрын
Aren't you also supposed to (after lacing and valve trimming) over inflate the football to about 100 psi to press the bladder more tightly against the leather inner surface. Not certain on how long but then drop it down to game pressure, then done?...
@frowe327 Жыл бұрын
Your video and lacing instructions were well presented, but you never went over the installation of the new bladder/valvestem process. On my 90's vintage Commissioner Paul Tagliabue signature NFL ball, there is stitching around the existing valvestem, which hints at tough sledding ahead when I try to pull the old bladder/valve. I have not noticed this stitching feature on the newer balls. Anyhow my question is....is this stitching necessary to keep the new valvestem/shoulder surface from sinking into the football, when I attempt to pump up the empty ball?
@DSPbradenton Жыл бұрын
See "wilson gst football lacing instructions part 1" for bladder installation. Not sure how a new bladder will work with vintage football
@Sportsfan4life3 ай бұрын
What I did is take a seam ripper and snip the stitching the new bladder will work just fine however you will see the tiny holes around the nozzle unless you do what I did and get some thick black thread and stitch it through the holes before you put the new bladder in

Thanks for your football relacing videos, very helpful! I have a question about re-using a lace... If the football is old but never was used and needs a new bladder, but the original lace is clean and hardly any sign of use, can it be put back on the ball instead of using a brand new lace..? Thanks.
@DSPbradenton Жыл бұрын
Almost impossible to reuse laces since they are trimmed after installation

@@DSPbradenton Hello from Argentina! Can you please tell me what are those white laces on top of the ball made of? What's the commercial name (so to speak) if you need to buy it? Thanks!

@V8SupercarsArgentina I am not sure of the material. It is very strong synthetic material. I have heard that some people use leather in place of this material

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video series!!!!! Helped me out. There is a certain satisfaction that comes with fixing/repairing your own stuff and making it like new again. By the way for anyone watching this video as of 2022, Wilson now charges $20 just for the repair kit and laces to do the work yourself, and $40 to send your ball in and have them do the work for you. And by the way, their customer service and the speed at which you receive your kit is absolutely atrocious. I have been waiting just over a month to receive my repair kit since I’ve mailed in my check requesting the repair kit with my ball size to do the work myself and I still do not have my repair kit. My personal advice knowing what I know now go on eBay find the repair kit you need with laces and have it sent to your house. It will cost more money but you’ll be able to get your product and the job done much much much faster.

Excellent video. Your description mentions this is an NFL Style ball and lace up. That ball is the Spalding J5V used by the CFL for many years and, perhaps, USA college ball (CFL ball has white stripe all the way around and college ball has it only 1/2 way). NFL has always used Wilson balls that are very slightly smaller. So my question is, is there actually difference in the lacing technique between the Spalding and the Wilson? I'm refurbishing my J5V.

Don't get a replacement bladder from Wilson because the bladder they use is very thin and tend to always split at one of the seams so you're likely to run into the same issue sooner rather than later I found that the ones sold on eBay are better they just weigh a few grams more

Great video! Thanks! The Wilson factory includes a step they call "molding" in which the newly laced balled is put in a die, and the ball is pumped up to 120 psi and gradually drawn down to the playing pressure of 13 psi. The process takes about 2 minutes. Do you do that step as well? If so, how do you accomplish it? Do you have the die? If so, how much does that set up cost?
@DSPbradenton2 жыл бұрын
Never heard of that process but it makes sense......when you inflate a newly installed bladder it takes several hours before the bladder matches the shape of the leather cover

Are the laces same size when ordering them, gst vs standard ( the duke)
@DSPbradenton3 жыл бұрын
The GST uses two separate laces. One rubberized and one same material as NFL (duke) lace. Not sure if they are identical in length.

Hi. A have a question. Can you tell me is there any difference in spalding, rawlings o wilson bladders (only from pig skin). I'm from Russia and it;s cheaper to me by and Spalding football than new bladder from the US)))
@DSPbradenton4 жыл бұрын
The air fill port on a brand new bladder has an extended barb in order for you to pull the air fill port through the leather cover. You then cut off the extension after installation. Without this extension (which will not be present on a previously installed bladder) it will be near impossible to install the bladder.
@MrScoareHD4 жыл бұрын
DSPbradenton I did it previously)) You need only flat slotted screwdriver)) Is there any differences in bladders or no?)))
@DSPbradenton4 жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure but I know that the wilson bladder is a much different/smaller shape than the leather cover. The leather cover determines the final shape..not the blader
