I wish you could add in tracks on this game.... Just starting out it would be real handy to pull threw the repair building kinda thing... Yes I know this is a map of a real area, but we as players do not have to pay the big bucks to add switches and new track like real life railroad companies do.

Moving the interchange to Sylva was a big adjustment for me because of the distance between the interchange and the repair and fueling facilities in Dillsboro. Still wish Sylva had a wye in vanilla, but I will say the morning sort is pretty easy in Sylva because of the extra room.

I've recorded another couple of days after this and so far the sort has been easier. I think I've got a routine in mind now on what order to do things so I don't have to wait too long but as you say there's nothing at the interchange so parking the locos will be difficult when they need fixing.

FYI: When you MU locos, the trailing engine (or engine's) must be in manual and the MU and CUT OUT boxes checked. The lead engine can be in MANUAL, ROAD, or YARD, but the MU and CUT OUT boxes must not be checked.If your multiple engines don't seem to be pulling like they should, this is the first place to look HAPPY RAILROADING 😊.

Might be. Only happened whilst recording this episode. This week's 3 episodes were all recorded on the same day with the game saved and closed between each recording. The only difference was that the game had an update before and after this episodes recording. It's a long day recording and editing 3 episodes in day and as the issue didn't continue I didn't look further into it.

Good episode, apart from the driver! Yes, you would think that apart from a few key bindings, the overall effect of the drive should be much the same. Interesting seeing the difference in scenery too, this was less 'clean' I thought.
@bluewizard
@bluewizard 3 күн бұрын
I was surprised how bad the track looked. The game details are pretty much set to the top so I thought it would look better. Some aspects look fine such as the houses and lighting. I didn't actually like the loco either. I can't put my finger on it but something on the exterior looks a little strange. Since recording I've set the key bindings so next video it might be a little easier to drive. The key bindings were also what caused me to stall the loco. I was pressing buttons lol. The more I think about it the more I think that Diesel Railcar simulates this loco better. There's no suspension movement here, the air pipe let the brakes off straight away after stopping even though I left it in gear. And at the end the game didn't give me a breakdown of how I drove, only how late I was and how close to the target I stopped. So far the little indie game wins. But we'll do some more videos so I can build a fuller opinion.

@@bluewizard I have never played Diesel rail car simulator but do play Train sim world 4 on PS5. This route is quite a few years old, and was released for an older version of the game (TSW2 I think) , so while it runs well on TSW4, It doesn't make use of updated lighting, effects and features of the newer game. I think more recent versions of the game and routes have some degree of suspension. They are supposed to be putting much more realistic suspension into the game soon, but whether that will be in this version of the game or a future version I don't know . At the moment the TSW4 route Blackpool Branches (also set in the 1980s) has a pacer which has more realistic suspension. And is a far better looking route being designed for TSW4.
@bluewizard
@bluewizard 2 күн бұрын
Cheers for the info @tmn278 . Diesel Railcar Simulator is an indie pc game by a single dev. It's far smaller in scope than TSW and only includes 1960s UK Diesels and 3 maps. On one hand as it's a single dev the simulation might not be as good as TSW but but on the other hand as it only focuses on this era of loco it might simulate these better. As I'm not a train driver I won't really ever know which it is but what I could test is if driving a similar loco in both games would feel the same and they don't. Part of that will be the controls (the hit boxes for instance are different and this will cloud the feeling) but the way the loco behaved also felt different. One thing for sure that is better in DRS is the brake line. If you stop and leave it in gear the brakes can take minutes to release making you late. This didn't seem to be simulated in TSW (on this route) which is a pity. The graphics on this route on TWS are fine. As mentioned there were a few things that caught my eye such as the suspension and the track. If memory serves me correctly TSW uses unreal whereas DRS uses unity so the feel will always be different. Gameplay is also a little different. On TSW you get scored for how close you stop the train to the target. I liked this. DRS doesn't have it though. The scoring page is more detailed though on DRS and in my mind this gives a better incentive to play again and do better. Overall I enjoyed playing and have recorded another timetable with this loco. I might try and pick up the route you mention at some point to see what a newer route looks like. For not though this is an interesting experiment.

@@bluewizard Another route the Class 101 is included on (in TSW) is the Tees valley line DLC. But this is a route of similar age to Northern Trans-pennine. From what I can remember I don't think there was much if any difference in how they drove and handled. I think there is also another loco DLC pack which allows the 101 to run on the GWR DLC. It also appears in a small number of time table services on Blackpool branches, but I think you have to have Tees Valley and or NTP routes installed. There is a new 104 DMU DLC in development by a 3rd party developer which its base route will be the Peak Forrest DLC. As far as I know when they bring in new suspension it will be added to only a select few existing locos and units, but then included on subsequent new releases.

I really love this route. Those rattling diesels and run down stations charmed me instantly. I haven't given the 101 a try yet, though; mostly been driving the Class 45 because I'm pretty new to train games and it's...well it's...really simple.😅
@bluewizard
@bluewizard 4 күн бұрын
One big thing I like about this era of locos is how simple they really are. Can you imagine many of the drivers at that time would have originally been Steam engine drivers and would have retrained to drive these. I wonder what they would have thought about them? Apart from me playing with the key bindings and managing to stall the loco, my only real issues were that it performed differently to similar locos on Diesel Railcar simulator and so I wasn't sure of braking distance. I do wonder which SIM is more accurate with this loco. My gut says it's Diesel Railcar as that game is based solely on this era of loco but who knows. I'll be having another go on TSW and hopefully will be a little better.
@anglosaxon5874

Used to 'sign' [drive] that route when I was a driver [now retired]. You are going uphill all the way to Standedge Tunnel [after Marsden] so the incline will help you slow down. Slaithwaite is a staggered station with each running line platform [either direction] furthest away, also helps for overruns especially in the 'down' direction towards Huddersfield [as you are going downhill and a Cat A overrun station in leaf fall [autumn]]. Not too bad, but keep your day job! lol
@bluewizard
@bluewizard 4 күн бұрын
Haha... Yes I was terrible lol. I didn't know sign meant drive. Good to know. And how strange that I picked a route that a viewer would have driven irl. Whats the odds. I don't really play TSW normally so don't have much reference. I didn't visually feel that I was going up a hill but now you mention it, it does explain why the loco didn't feel that it had any pulling power and the braking was so short. It would be good to have some visual clues if you are climbing though. My reason for playing was that if TSW and Diesel railcar were accurate simulators the driving would feel exactly the same or at least similar but it felt completely different. I wonder if either are accurate? I will never know lol

Ive noticed for Whittier Saw Mill that the flat bed cars seem to fill surprisingly fast. Usually when I load up the Saw Mill in the morning, i split the deliveries from Interchange with the flatbeds at the front of the S01 and S02 sidings and throw the box cars at the end towards the buffers. That way, Mid-day, the flats are full and can be scooped out, then the box cars can be dumped at end of day. So far I havent had a Hot box, but ive gotten close a few times. You definitely have to verify the consist at the start of the day at interchange otherwise youll get caught with your pants down.

I've thought of creating a second logs service per day which might mean the sawmill process the lumber quicker. At the moment as you say you seem to get more each morning then the sawmill can handle. Waiting to deliver the new wagons from the interchange until later in the day might also be worth trying. That's a good idea. I'm just terrible at changing my routines lol I haven't had to touch oiling either. As all the locos at some point are ai driven I think they're doing it

@@bluewizard I usually do, two to occasionally three runs, from the Saw Mill to Connelly, each morning and then usually mid day or afternoon, that way the Saw Mill has a in house inventory of 45-55 logs on hand for next mornings production. Usually it's around 17:00-18:00 when I empty out S01 and S02 to the Interchange so both sidings are fully open for that mornings deliveries the next day. I'll run the 0-6-0 for switching the sidings because of how short it is in overall length, and run the first Ten wheeler you get as the logger to make the run up and back from Connelly

I enjoyed using it. I've said to others that I think there shouldn't be a free version and to lower the price of the paid version. I think the dev would make more money in the long term doing that. But as is, if you're using it enough and are happy with the price then helping the dev by upgrading is a very good thing. This is German software so like EEP which is also German it does seem to more favour continental European locos. It's a pity for both as a wider selection would help to sell them. You would likely need to look at something like Trainz if you did want a greater selection.

My constraint here is that I'm making a video of me playing. 3 videos = 1 day. The total playtime for the day is 5-6 hours. I then spend another 2-3 hours editing. It pretty much takes an entire real life day to make the 3 episodes. 3 episodes then go out per week so it's a number of weeks before I can get enough money to proceed so when I do get money I have to use it wisely. Sometimes its used for a new loco but mostly it's used to expand the area as I think that makes for a better video.

To be honest this is a new way to kill the gaming industry. As you mention devs are going towards subscriptions. That will let them get away with more garbage releases, more chances for bugs, more irritated customers, and all for profit right? You know a little company called Atari allowed so much garbage content to be created for their system that in 1983 it crashed the market. We see this more and more with Steam games and 3rd part devs every year (ever see how many train sim games or sim games in general exist currently?). What I am getting at this is game rental, pay to play garbage. What's the benefit to the consumer? Microsoft has desperately wanted to do this with Windows and no one was having that subscription model (software as a service was the choice instead). Is this what consumers asked for? Judging by the comments below people are avoiding this game over the subscription model. So the answer is no one asked, customers are forced into it if they want the new goodies. Maybe it's better for the gaming industry to crash harder than ever before. You can't nickle and dime people forever.

No.. after installing it all worked. Difficult to know why it's not for you. Obviously make sure you've got the latest version of Railloader. It doesn't say you need Strange Customs but if you don't have it you could try adding it. The issue could be a conflict with another mod perhaps. In your game folder there is a folder called mods, if you remove any sub folder from here the mod in that sub folder will be removed. You could try removing other mods and then try it to see if it then works. You can place the sub folders back into the mods folder and that mod will be readded, so if you remove a mod it doesn't have to be a permanent action. Good luck
