Fun Fact: After scratching Napoleon's name off the manuscript, Beethoven considered renaming the symphony EROTICA, but settled for EROICA due to misspelling.

I don't think even Mozart wrote anything better than the first movement allegro of the 'Prague' symphony. It is a truly astonishing compositional achievement.

It’s so good to see an orchestra comprised of men AND women and different races. When I look at, say, Bernstein conducting orchestras back in the 1970s, i see only white men.

What an amazing depiction of the wars of history! And they all point with dying fingers to the final culmination at Armageddon, the final and most cataclysmic of all rebellious humans. Destruction surrounds us, then suddenly the sky lightens with the approach of the Son of God (Rev. 19). At least these are my impressions of this music. It is breathtaking, marching as an army with banners.

I find this whole symphony absolutely incredible. What surprizes me though is, that while everyone's talking about the 2nd Movement, i rarely see anyone talk about the 1st. The theme is so well implemented into so many different emotions, it starts of as a kind of soft voice and ends up roaring through the concert hall. Truly amazing

Agree 100%. What starts off as a simple, unimpressive melody then becomes huge and formidable at the end of the fist movement.

This is the most passionate interpretation of this piece that I have ever heard. Hillary understands Brahms, not just his music, but Brahms as Mensch. It's so touching I'm crying. I'm a cellist. I've performed everything thing Brahms wrote for cello. Because of doctor's mistakes I can no longer play but listening to Hillary helps me feel closer to Brahms.

Years struggling to understand any of Bruckner's symphonies and still I find all of them hollow, empty, lacking any direction, erratic, clumsy, awkward, coarsely orchestrated. In fact, they all sound as a transcription of an organ piece, with the typical slow movement (everything is adagio in his symphonies, let us be honest), the sempiternal tremolo in the strings, the massive brass always sounding excessive and lacking any expression, the poor textures, the weak melodies, the abrupt changes, the many pauses (what a poor resource that is), etc. Yes, I know some people (not that many) love them, but some people also like broccoli and that does not make it good either. I think Bruckner was just an organist that should have never composed anything beyond organ works and masses, that is it. Somebody told him once to try a symphony and he did, but boy it was bad. And then he spent the next 30 years or so composing bad symphonies. And he knew they were bad because he himself re-composed, re-shaped, re-scored, re-estructured, re-everything all of them. His friends also tried to improve the works he tireless contiued producing, but everything was useless: after thousands of changes, they were still as bad as they were the first day, or even worse.
