It is absolutely insane what a solo dev can accomplish these days. This looks like a must play for anyone who enjoyed Salt and Sanctuary.

Great review! I've seen a lot of people talking about Golden Axe and Rastan, which is fair considering the presentation, but I'm a big Castlevania fan and this games checks all the boxes! If you like Castlevania IV or Dracula X you'll probably like this one a lot. I did a bunch of music for the game by the way 😅, so thanks for the shoutout to the sountrack.

What does Azaes' ability do exactly? I've been playing as him and all i can figure out is you use it once and stay powered up?

this game SUCKS, character is so sluggish, the sprint should have been the default movement, there is literally no invincibility frames after dash or roll, so it is extremely difficult to dodge attacks, unsheathing sword and bow is just excessive, takes too much time to pull out while enemies are on your ass, healing is slow + have to sheathe sword and stand still so every time you heal feels like a death sentence, throwables are fucking useless except for the bomb which is basically a one hit kill for non-bosses enemies, I guess the only good thing about this game is the graphics/art design, playing this horrible unfinished amateur game makes me want to go die in blasphemous instead

How the heck did you make a 4 minute long speech about this game without saying "Contra" even once? Everything in this game reminds me of Contra, the player movement and jump animation, the 8-way shooting... Even the choice of weapons is pretty much the same as Contra. There's nothing wrong with basically making an existing game with a fresh coat of paint and new levels. And it seems like Iron Meat executes that Contra formula very well, without looking outdated, considering it's NOT a game from the 90's. There are other games on Steam which take inspiration from Contra and some of them simply either don't live up to the original's gameplay fidelity or they take so much inspiration that they end up looking like an old NES game was released 30 years later than it should have. Iron Meat seems to do a proper blend of old and new and that's what should really be emphasized when talking about it.

Great visuals. You don't often see pixel art with a more realistic aesthetic this well handled. I hope the devs can continue to add content to the game or realize their vision in a follow up.
