We do a show that plays a lot of music. Music for the intros/segments are all loaded into Streamyard beforehand but sometimes we get mixes sent to us live during the show from ppl watching who have posted them to social media/KZfaq. When we play THOSE, it always sounds crappy after about ten seconds. It sounds like it's overcompressing and all the audio (including the host's mic) gets quieter and crunchier. Then when we stop playing, it takes a few seconds to get the sound back. Why is this happening and how do we stop it? The thing is, the reason we use Streamyard is because we get a lot of super chats and the producers tell me Streamyard was the only service that let them integrate superchats from KZfaq successfully. If you know of anything better we could use that lets us get better audio and SCs, I'd be very grateful. Thanks! - trevor.

I heard somewhere that they made the on/off button they way they did to help prevent accidentally turning it off. I don't mind it but I have to admit that I really do have to be mindful about how I am turning the button on and off. My only real problem with the Duo is it often loses the audio connection to with my Mac. I never lose the mic but fairly often I lose the sound of my Mac. Can't figure out why that is. And did you say award winning? Can you elaborate? 😊
@FreePodcastTools

I can understand having a safety feature for that purpose, but I think the original button was great. I have heard a few people say they have issues with the device on Mac. I would like to get a Mac Mini in the future for streaming. They seem to be quiet when in use unlike my PC. It's been a while since we participated in any podcast awards but we were finalists three straight years and won it all our first year. We were also invited to the Webby Awards. We didn't get the nomination for that award though. We have also been on numerous "top 10" lists from various outlets.

Warning on the Blue Yeti - It's a little odd they've stuck with the Mini-USB all these years especially given how fragile that connection has proven to be for many users. I moved my Blue Yeti for the first time in a year+ and the Mini-USB broke. This is a structural design problem with the microphone design they haven't seemed to address. I'm out of warranty so I'm out of luck. This is evidently common enough there are many videos on KZfaq on how to attempt a repair. That requires disassembly, soldering a new mini-USB connector. I'm an electrical engineer, have done my share of soldering but I couldn't successfully remove the old Mini-USB connector and solder in a new one (old eyes, very detailed work). The mic is dead now and I'll likely not buy another. Nice sound, but hard to trust the brand. Fortunately, I have a RODE NT-USB Mini as a backup and will be looking at the one's recommended here for my new backup.
@FreePodcastTools
@FreePodcastTools 6 күн бұрын
I am so sorry to hear about your terrible issue with the Mini-USB port. That is awful! It's a really bad sign that there are videos showing how to fix the port on the Blue Yeti. If you couldn't fix it, someone like me would have no shot! It's pretty sad that they can't do something for people who purchased their product regardless of timeframe. At least off a discount on a repurchase or repair. That would have gone a long way to show goodwill. I also own the NT-USB Mini and love that mic! It's a great replacement. Again, I'm very sorry for the loss of the microphone. Thank goodness USB-C appears to be a much better connection port.

The Streamer X doesn't have monitor outputs but it does have two headphone outputs. Needing dual USB will limit your options greatly as it's pretty rare. It's even more rare to have dual USB and monitor outputs. Check out the Connect 6: amzn.to/3RTHHxl RODECaster Duo: amzn.to/3LeUdDN There are plenty of cable connectors that can take you from 1/4" to RCA but you'll have to look them up to see what works best. Ultimately you have to make the decision on what will work for your needs in case I interpret what you are looking for incorrectly.

thanks for this review. I have quite a few recorders, including the original H6 which I loved and the Tascam X8 which I somehow regard as the real successor of the H6. Honestly, the X8 is close to perfect and the touchscreen that you want to steer away from makes the X8 so versatile that there is no contender. It makes the X8 much more than just a recorder. The H6e ? Well... I was looking forward to it, but it seems to be a disappointment... no upgraded preamps, no compatibility with older Zoom capsules, no touchscreen, no usable mixing features, no effects... and it is plain ugly in its looks.
@FreePodcastTools
@FreePodcastTools 6 күн бұрын
I definitely appreciate your thoughts on the X8 and the H6e. It is fair to say the X8 is in a class all its own for sure. I'm getting older so seeing screens outdoors can be a challenge for me so the dumbed down function of the H6e is easy for me in those rare circumstances. I certainly agree that the capsule issue is a major fail for Zoom. They just want to get more money out of people. I'm a huge Tascam fan and will probably grab one of their new recorders in the future. The only thing I need to investigate is the battery life of the X8. Thank you for the great comment. You make some excellent points.

I currently have, and absolutely love, the Zoom Podtrack p4. I am totally blind, and find it super easy to use. I run an online radio station, and was able to replace a big traditional broadcast board with the Zoom. Only thing I really miss from that board is the ability to eq my voice and bring out a bit more bass. I don't have the budget for any of the Rodecasters. Is there any device on the affordable end that I could hook up to the p4 to eq my specific channel? I mostly broadcast solo, and guests are few and far between, so I'm not worried about all the mics, just mine. Since it's all live, I can't really eq in post. Thanks in advance for your help.
@FreePodcastTools
@FreePodcastTools 16 күн бұрын
That is really awesome that you were able to replace a traditional broadcast board with the Zoom. I really like the P4 with my only gripe being it's not 24-Bit. I hope they update it at some point in the future. You might have just come up with a million dollar idea! A compact EQ that works as a passthrough would be fantastic! The only thing that comes to mind is the Behringer Sonic Exciter SX3040. I think they are a around $120. It has balanced inputs and outputs including 1/4" and XLR. I can't think of a reason why the P4 couldn't accept that signal. It is on the bulky side being in the rack mounted format. I just can't think of anything in a smaller format. Excellent question though! This has my gears spinning. I'll try to ask around.

Do you need to use a cloud lift with your sm7b and UAC232, or does the zoom give you enough gain without?
@FreePodcastTools
@FreePodcastTools 16 күн бұрын
Personally, I would steer clear of this device. It will give you about +45dB of gain (default setting) for dynamic mics (unless you download the software and change the setting in there). The premise is that it's 32-Bit Float so there's "no need to set the gain". I returned the one I bought because I want to control my levels, etc without software. It sounded pretty noise to me preamp wise. They said it's the headphone output but I disagree.

Buyers beware the zoom h6 essential is not compatible as an audio interface on windows 11 arm 64 computers. The driver available is only for x64 processors. I am stuck with my device .

@@adv.rohitl.jbrasdesa2402 that's a terrible response they gave you. It should be job one to find a fix since you're a paying customer. Well that really puts a damper on my previous recommendation. I am glad you pointed it out but sorry you're going through this.

While there are people who have gotten it to work Shure does not recommend it. Here's their official stance: Officially, the MVX2U is designed for use with laptops and desktop computers. We do not recommend connecting an XLR microphone to an iPhone with the MVX2U, as users cannot access the full features of the MVX2U that are available via the ShurePlus MOTIV Desktop App.

When it comes to a full featured device I would say yes. Everything else that comes up seems to be much more basic like the Eltrinex V12Pro.

I only have Audacity, Audition, and Reaper. It works with those. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with the vast majority of DAWS. Here's a list I found, but I can only verify the 3 I listed above: Ableton Live Adobe Audition Cubase FL Studio GarageBand Logic Pro Pro Tools Reason Reaper Studio One

I know very little about buying an audio interface, but would this be a good alternative to focusrite for, let's say, casual guitar recording?

I would recommend a cheaper alternative like this: amzn.to/4eeIvqc for "casual" music. The PS22 is more of a streaming/content creation device in my opinion.

Is there any benefit of using XLR or this mic instead of type C. I am confused with using XLR will unleash full potential or it os same as type C ?
@FreePodcastTools

I didn't really notice a difference between USB and XLR (unless your audio interface has processing like EQ and compression). If you have the ability to do some processing in post production I would simply use it via USB. There are people out there who will swear they can hear the difference but I am not one of them.
