As a nothern kid who went down to London I always saw Darcus on and off on TV and he was genuinely lovely man who stood up against injustices practiced on minorities. I always remember Darcus attending a Bernard Manning stand up comedy show and Darcus first came in with cynicism not wanting to listen to 'nasty little racist jokes' but he came out admitting that the jokes made him laugh and he seemed to understand where Bernard Manning was coming from. Now that's a true open minded person. RIP fine fellow.

Love the Killing Joke 80s bit where a few punks start to try a bit of slam dancing and the mainly goth crowd join in but in a totally unique goth way. What I`d give to be amongst these people back in the day. Psychobillies, punks, goths, outsiders-ah yes Im at home.

Takes me back to when I was 18ish. Wasn’t my scene, but I did like some of the music and there was a small group of ‘alternatives’ in every town and village. You always had to be something or other back then.

I remember when goth came to America in the late 70s, early 80s. It was never quite as big here as the UK. But I had a number of friends who were goths back in my school days. For some, goth was a genuine form of self-expression. For other, it was a way to fit in with a crowd for whom goth was a genuine form of self-expression. Everyone wanted their crowd so as to feel a part of something. To each their own. I always got along with everyone.

Looks like a mega night 😊 I used to go to spiders in hull and people there used to say about nights in batley coz they would swap between the two sometimes. I was too young to travel lol naughty me I was underage so I never went but I remember being gutted coz occasionally spiders would be half full on certain nights lol

I ran Goth nights in Brisbane, Australia during the 90s because i am a massive Bowie fan and no other clubs would play his music so i was like, sod it, i'll start my own called Dark Entries. Watching this video reminded me of some truly magical times. This club looked utterly fantastic. Especially the Bowie fan in the crop top dancing to Life On Mars? at the end. She is by far and away, the standout of this entire video. Good to see some Huddersfield folk as well. 😀

I’m such a lover of this video. My mum is actually in this and to be able to see actual footage of my mum when she was around my age is such a privilege. Honestly, I think she looks so cool… I could only wish for this vibe and subculture now. I will keep returning to this video for years to come 🫶🏻

Look at that song list, I don't care what anyone says it's not up for debate, our music WAS better back then lol! So many of those bands and tunes are hugely relevant in our historic pop culture. Put that list up against today's One named cookie cutter acts on billboard ( (apparently bands don't exist on the charts anymore ) In 40 years our bands will STILL have their historic place where as much of todays music and artists will be forgotten. I'm not suggesting there isn't great music out there now because there most certainly is but what I am saying is our mainstream radio played music back then blows away todays charting tunes. Mainstream music right now IMHO is at it's absolute creative worse.

Fantastic! I'm from Canada, the best music on earth was coming out of the UK in the 80's. Great to see footage of people making their own scene, & I love the open-mindedness of the 'adults' making the film (including our tour guide/narrator).

Hate to tell you 84 was Not the Height t of Goth at All especially as it started in London 1981 originators were Bauhaus and UK Decay maybe it was the height in the North & stupid clubs(never about that) instead of live gigs( everything it was about)

In 1984 I was an innocent little goth in the making at 15yrs old and missed out on this fine time. Now I'm 54, still doing music...last live gig at Club Infinite Sadness as "Electropath". My friends now work until their fingers bleed or worship $$$. Stay young, burn the candle at both ends and live forever as an outcast and dark visionary. And if your dream goes unsung, the more the rest will die before you hung.
