There is no available space for storage 🙄 that's ridiculous 😁. As regards signage, my printer is kaput at the moment. Hence, no wagons are receiving anything on them yet. @@_RandomPea just watched your clip, if you wish to have independent control, you need to make sure that you have isolated the sections, ie plastic rail joiners between the crossover and the back of the single turnout! It may pay to install a simple control layout, with the switches you showed, which means you could have two controllers available to control either section! Therefore a passing loop! Hope that helps a little, there is plenty of information on the web or maybe get one of the Peco how too books! I have one somewhere if you would like it? Stu

Had to look this one up. As soon as I saw the name Sir William McAlpine, things became clear .... well, slightly clearer, at any rate. Can we take it chimneys ALWAYS face uphill on this line?? I recall mentioning of a freight only line to a sandpit somewhere on the LMS accessed by a line which came up a 1 in 5 grade to regain 'the big railway', but this was a reader's letter in (IIRC) Railway Modeller, over 50 years ago and not all the regular correspondents -were-completely-sane- had 100% accurate recall. Fascinating line ... thanks for sharing. 🙂

The Lickey Incline is the steepest sustained adhesion standard-gauge main-line gradient in the UK (at 1 in 37.7), but there are indeed other grades that exceed that. If we ignore funiculars (which are arguably just angled lifts, in which case a lift that goes vertically has a gradient of 1 in Zero), the steepest railway gradient in the UK would be on the Snowdon Mountain Railway (at 1 in 5.5), but that is neither standard gauge, adhesion worked, nor the mainline. The Sheffield Supertram maxes out at 1 in 10, and *is* adhesion and standard-gauge, so is technically the steepest standard gauge gradient in the UK, but light rail/trams are built somewhat differently. But there are a lot of extant gradients in the UK that beat the Lickey - for some examples: the incline to Bank on the DLR (1 in 17, Light Rail), Foxfield Bank (1 in 19, not the mainline), Marley's Bank on the Leighton Buzzard Railway (1 in 25, narrow gauge), Golfa Bank on the Welshpool railway (1 in 29, narrow gauge), and I believe the gradient on some of the tracks feeding into some of the London terminuses are *briefly* in the region of 1 in 30 as ramps thread lines over and under each other, but that's not sustained. Of these, Golfa Bank is probably the best experience, as it's about a mile long, quite twisty and is regularly running steam passenger service. (That said, my personal favourite is Aberffrwd bank on the Vale of Rheidol. It's not as steep as the lickey, but it is four miles of sustained and extremely twisty 1 in 50. The locomotives are the most powerful 2ft gauge steam locos built for a UK railway, and have a tractive effort to rival some standard gauge locos - and they *need* it). The Lickey is certainly Impressive when considering the combination of its length and grade, and of the scale of traffic expected to use it, but there are steeper grades, longer grades and taller sustained grades in the UK.

@@SomeThrillingHeroics Thank you. In the late 90’s, I was one of the PWay Engineers working on the construction of the Croydon TramLink and remember Gravel Hill being 8%, generally; I worked on the GWML (Padd to Didcot) with gradients “around” 0% to 0.1%, so this was somewhat out of the ordinary and bloody steep, especially when; I had to walk up and down it; many times 😢 as we installed the ballast, sleeper etc……

If you have an airbrush, and not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but just practice your technique on some paper or card, then move on to some old cheap wagon and enjoy, don’t worry about making mistakes and remember less is more, a little dusting is far more realistic than coating a loco and allow each coat to dry before applying a second, there is a different between wet and dry paints. I use a variety of paints, mainly frame dirt, a little rust both light and dark and roof dirt and some times a little sleep grime. Hi there, I will upload a track diagram today, finger crossed. As for track plans, I would list out what you wish to have, for example 2 or 4 running lines, MPD? Yard? Time period is important, since the 80’s most yards became car parks. Once you have all your ideas, just sketch them out! And try to do it to a rough scale, if you can. The baseboards being us for Kingsclere are the same ones I had my n gauge on, there was a lot 😳, 90 points, two loop, massive fiddle yard and various MPD/oil siding / engineers siding / even a wagon works and a nuclear unloading facility. However, still plenty of room for scenic elements. Sometimes less track makes a better layout, as too much leaves no room for the railway environment and the countryside or town around it. However, it’s very much a personal choice! Whatever you are happy with; is the key! Hope this helps.

Hi there, Thanks for your comment. I used a 2mm card base, in short movable sections, to which I attached foam, from the unused foam in stock boxes (great to get the contours, but does soak all the water in) but any foam will do the trick, I then apply the bandage material, various manufacturers can provide this including gaugemaster, once fully dry I apply sculptamold, again there are other various products which you can achieve your requirements. Again and importantly “once dry”, I spray or paint on a base dirt/earth colour, then grass or soils. This process does take time and don’t rush. I have found that the foam I use; soaks all the moisture down to the card, which could cause issues, and a couple of the big sections have warp a little, but I will attach these down once it ready to do so! The reason for the small section's, they are easier to work on, I don’t want to have overspray risk on the ceiling and I am still to complete the backscenes. In the April review, out soon! I will show the various stages explained above, as I am currently doing the Upside cutting. Hope this helps.

Hi mate, looks great. What did you use on the track weathering? Still love how slow you can run. When you say 'we', who else is there? 😂 I got feedback on my vids early on to consider getting rid of the 90degree angles on corners, not sure if you are going to do that, but was a great tip, ive used offcuts of foam board to create the curved edges and confess im surprised how different it looks as a result.
@Kingscleremodelrailway
@Kingscleremodelrailway 4 ай бұрын
Hi there, So it’s the royal we, although, my son does help out from time to time, especially with the video editing. As for the track weathering, the process I use is as follows: spray track with sleeper grime, there are various manufacturers and it good to use a few to break up to colours, then paint the rail and chairs with dark rust, again similar point to above in regards manufactures. Then for the ballasting, I generally use woodland scenics, but it’s down to personal choice, but always the fine grade. Always mix varying colours, the real thing has a variety of colours, try to get a photo of a prototypical area you would like to model, for the yard, I use cinders with a small amount of gray mixed in. Again once dry, I apply Track Grime, produced by Geoscenics, this is pricey but worth it, for the yards, I spray quite heavy, on the running lines I spray it lightly with a little more around S&C units, platforms of area where locos stand. I then apply oil spill, again from Geoscenics, I spray in the same above area’s but limit this. To finish it off, within the yards I use woodland scenics various greens and static grass but remember this would be very short as the vehicles will keep it low. For the running lines, these would generally be veg free? Hope this helps, however, to be honest there are so many ways to create the look you are after and it is very personnel , so I would recommend you have a short test track to practice your track and off track weathering and just play, try different products and perfect your style.
