Saw him many times at clubs performing, and it was a little scary sometimes. The first time I saw him, I was in shock. You honestly feel like Marilyn is in the room. It was just unbelievable how good he was. I bartended, so I was in the club behind the scenes, so I knew Jimmy. He made me give him my International Male brand new bracelets, and was supposed to send me something to replace them but didn't 😂 still have my signed promo fan with one of the best marilyn impersonation photos of him ever. Was a very nice and funny guy. I'm sure he still is.

Paul was a master of expression & timing. He had a talent for the one-line zinger. He wanted to be taken seriously as an actor, & therefore always saw himself as a failure. However, his fans took him into their hearts, where he remains a success.

He wasn't thinking, "how far can I go before straight people noticed". EVERYBODY noticed right away. I thought he was just pretending at 1st, but after 2-3 episodes, I realized, he's not pretending. Paul was just a very funny, witty and clever guy.

: The idea that straight people didn't notice or that many straights didn't notice is not the solid. I was a kid when the show was on the air, and it was easy for me to figure out just as much as it was for my folks, including my grandparents, teachers at school, other kids, especially older kids, and various groan-ups I was around. It was more a case of social "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", really. He was funny, but the only people that thought he was scandalous or whatever were prudes, especially Network Standards & Practices and the Purity Police.
@richardherdman2121
@richardherdman2121 Жыл бұрын
That's a very good point. But there's also some truth to the fact that many everyday straight folks really didn't get it. Remember how many people of a certain mindset never really believed Liberace was gay? So the networks were like: "Well as long as the less-educated people in rural America don't complain (because they don't get it) and the more educated people in urban America don't complain (because the DO get it - and love him!), we'll just let Paul keep being Paul."

To piggyback on my first comment, I had a non-bot, heterosexual female who was fairly young and progressive arguing with me on social that the "full steam ahead" joke was only about sexism and not about insinuating he was gay. She insisted he just meant to knock women as the lesser sex not worthy of saving from drowning. So even today there are some younger people who don't get his brilliant humor.

He was married to a man who sadly passed away two years ago... So what's with him BEING gay? You would ever say that a girl "became" straight after being raped as a child? I've never heard such a thing! What Andrews had gone through has nothing to do with his healthy relationship which lasted over 40 years. So, please stop associating pedophilia with homosexuality, like it would never been associated with heterosexuality.

That Walsh dude was too much, just couldn't shut his mouth. Sometimes you have to let the victim speak. I cant believe that advocacy dude actually believes we should release sex offenders. I agree send them to his neighbourhood. Bet he wouldn't be so flippant if one of his kids were raped.

Hollywood Squares, The Newlywed Game and Match Game were based on louche humour, the double-entendre and “wink-wink”. They certainly drew in the viewers. Did people complain? I’m sure some did, but they were reminded that they could turn the channel or turn off the boob-tube completely. But shocked reactions of “Oh my God, did he just say that!”? I don’t recall any.

I always felt so sorry for John Walsh. I know when he dies Adam is going to be there taking his hand and walking in the gates of Heaven. John has done wonderful things since Adam was kidnapped and murdered. Adams life was never in vain . Adams death has saved many children. God can take something the devil does and make something good out of it. I wish it never had to happen and I know John wishes that million x over. We will never forget Adam and thanks to John we won’t.
