Not every space battle has to be realistic. I play Children of a Dead Earth too but some IPs just want cool spaceships go bang and boom and physics is not the point. Not everyone is here to watch physicist nerd out the realism they want to see things blow up in spectacular dramatic fashion.

Whats the point of the Navy when the airforce exists and fighter jets can easily kill/cripple a fleet of ships with anti-ship missiles and bombs?

@@Spaceman0720 this is an in universe statement. We constantly see warships do nothing useful outside of acting as carriers in every Gundam series.

@@mogwaiman6048Gundam space battles are literally based on ww2 combat if you have read other comments here and caling The Battle of Loum Space Midway or Space Jutland. The Battle of Loum was the first major battle that made mobile suits the new center stage for space combat in gundam just like how fighter planes became the new defining weapons platform to win a war in the pacific(which nation made the anime and fought in it and lost?). You could literally swap the Mobile Suits with X-wings and tie fighters and it'd still be the same story and you'd be asking same question. Though I dont blame you because majority of the time we only see the perspective of the Pilots fighting against other pilots and focused on boasting the MS designs for model kit collectors, which I am one, not some random ship captain in their boring cruiser that aint a even a hero ship. But if you watched carefully to any series you will see warships still killing each other like they always do. Recommend you watch MS IGLOO if you havent yet it's one of the few series that depict ships shooting at each other long enough for people to notice though a bit exagerated as you'd expect from Japanese pop culture. In regards to why warships are acting like carriers, they arent, that's like calling an Arleigh Burke Destroyer a carrier because it carriers a helicopter. Later cruisers in the UC timeline are required to have a hangar for mobile suits because Zeon designed their Musai class cruisers to be able to carry a trio of mobile suits which is funny because this same cruiser was also previously an unarmed cargo ship, despite being a "Cruiser" they decided to make it carry at least three mobile suits in it's "cargo hold" to increase the number of MS for a fleet to deploy and not just the main transports and carriers. A late variant of the Zeon cruiser used by remnant forces can carry six in Gundam 0083. Cruisers able to carry mobile suits of their own just became the new standard in gundam's space combat doctrine.

​@@mogwaiman6048Also the opening of Origin is actually misleading. In the last episode, it took Zeon a lot longer to destroy the Federation fleet, with most ships requiring at least a few bazooka rounds to destroy or atleast disable and only if they hit vital areas. Most of those ships could still operate with a dozen holes in them leaking fuel but they were mission-killed for certain.

What's not shown in the Origin is the HUGE loss of Zeon soldiers during the first month of the war. Zeon lost their force so much as well that it had to accept the EF favored treaty, which brought Zeon into a war of attrition = EF wins.

@@hishot1078 I mean, look at how the Zeon fleet is completely obliterated by the Federation, maybe we could see more MS being destroyed but still we can see a gigantic loss for Zeon in this battle.

I also like it compared to the Igloo version because well... in Igloo they show the Zeon cruisers turning broadside, presenting a bigger target while NOT increasing their entirely forward centerline firepower towards the enemy. Instead going nose and using the fact that they have 100% of their firepower available directly forward shows just that small bit of consideration that Igloo missed.

How the fuck are they the good guys? They literally forced Zeon to war, into nuking billions, dropping a colony on Earth, all because they refused to give the colonies the independence they were rightfully owned as per Clause 9 of the UC Charter. The Federation dwarfed Zeon's population numbers and industrial capacity by orders of magnitude, any conventional war Zeon would initiate was a lost cause from the get go if they didn't redress the imbalance in manpower and industrial might (hence the nukes and the colony drop). If you want to blame anyone, blame the Federation leadership for not giving Zeon any other choice. Call what they did a war crime, but the reasons behind the actions were simple, cold calculus of war.

It's probably a carryover of naval traditions, either the Captain is the last person to abandon ship, or they go down with it. Considering the volatility of getting hit, at least what the franchise likes to depicts, they probably concluded that death was preferrable to the humiliation and military consequences (etc court martial) from surviving a ship that was lost when they 'could have been in control'.
